Chapter 169: Strangers In Life

One by one the golf balls were hit and sent across the court in the ultimate speed.
In the driving range, Li Xiqing, Shao Yan, Risa and Karl were lining up side by side on a raised platform. Each of them was holding different golf clubs on their hands.
By their feet, was a machine as big as a shoe box that was equipped with a sensor on the side. When the player waved their golf stick in front of the sensor, the machine would dispense a golf ball for them to hit.
Behind them, was a long table with spread of finger foods on top of it. Li Xiqing had ordered chicken wings, bulgogi kimchi fries with extra cheese, fried chicken and waffle in shape of one-bite pieces, celery and carrots with ranch dipping sauce, fried Japanese dumplings, chicken quesadilla, pork spring rolls, peperoni flatbreads, and macaroni and cheese bites.
As they took turns to hit the balls, sometimes, they would walk back to the table to munch on foods.
Underneath the platform was a huge green area with circles in different sizes that were spread around and marked in numbers. And where the golf balls landed, that would be the score that the players get.
Risa and Shao Yan had been hitting for a while now, so they decided to sit back and enjoy the food; leaving Li Xiqing and Karl immersed in their own little competition.

"Are you okay, Yan Yan?"
Risa reached out and started to pick some foods and place them onto a clean plate.
Shao Yan was following behind her, "Yes, I am. I was just so annoyed, I needed to release it out."
Risa glanced back at her, "Hm.. You were really too calm just now, I was really worried you're just trying to hold everything in."
Shao Yan sighed as she picked up a chicken wing, "How do you expect me to react? Scream or yell at him? Or maybe slap him? And give him the satisfaction of confirming his past actions?"
And then she changed her voice to a mocking tone, "Oh yeah that was exactly why Shao Yan and I divorced. She's a mental freak like that and that's why I left her," and then she turned to Risa, "like that?"
"I am not going to give him that. Why should I? I wanted him to see that at this present moment, he means nothing at all. That he is a mere no one."
She placed the plate down, "He hurt me and I left him," she paused, "and now I've moved on happily with Xiqing. I think THIS already says a lot about how I feel."
And then she looked intently at Risa, "Have you ever heard the saying 'Being ignored is the ultimate form of punishment'?"
And then she picked up her plate again "I just want him to be removed from my life."

After she had finished eating, Risa went back to the driving platform and started to play another round with Karl.
Li Xiqing went back to the seating area. He spotted Shao Yan was picking on her chicken wing seriously. A smile slowly curved up on his lips and he walked closer.
"Is the food any good?" He asked as he stood next to her.
Shao Yan was fully concentrating on her chicken, she did not bother to lift her head up to look at him, "En, not bad. Go get some and sit here. It's getting late," while still trying to pick on her chicken meat.
Li Xiqing smiled at her actions, he rubbed her head gently before he walked to the food table and started to get some for himself.
When he came back to her side, Shao Yan was wiping her hands with wet wipes while looking at him, "Karl and Risa are still playing now? Isn't he hungry?" And then she glanced at her wrist to look at the time.
Li Xiqing moved a chair to the side and then sat on it, "He is having a lot of fun right now, just leave him be."
Shao Yan continued to sit next to him, while accompanying him to eat. She seemed to want to say something, but she did not know how to start.
Li Xiqing could feel her anxiousness but he chooses to wait until she is ready.

After contemplating for a while, Shao Yan finally opened her mouth to say, "Xiqing, about earlier," and then she paused, not sure how to say her next sentence, "uh.. I just want to say thank you."
Li Xiqing raised his chin and looked at her beautiful face.
In the middle of the night, where the driving range was lit up brightly, and yet her face was still the most stunning figure he had ever seen. Despite looking nervous and tired after a whole day of activities, Shao Yan was still looking adorable in his eyes.
He sighed softly and replied, "What are you thanking me for? I am just defending what's mine," he paused as he searched for her eyes, "I don't know what he's doing here yet. But in any case, do not come near him. Alright?"
Shao Yan nodded her head right away, "En. Don't worry, I know. I have no intention to talk to him anyway," and then she passed a glass of water to him, "we will be two strangers in life. Don't worry."

Meanwhile, on the driving range platform, another couple could be heard of having an argument back and forth.
"Don't hit it that way. Relax your wrist."
"Plant your feet firmly. Swing your waist around and use your whole arm to hit it."
"Bend your knee a little. No no, don't do that. No!"
Karl was frustrated as he was trying to show Risa the correct way to hit the golf balls to score higher.
He ran his fingers impatiently through his hair as he propped another hand on his waist, "Why are you so stubborn, woman? I've told you, use your whole arm."
Risa turned her head to glare at him, "Call me 'woman' one more time, and I guarantee you the two balls that I can hit right after! Come on, let's try?" She challenged him right away.
