Shao Yan scooted closer, "In my dream, I felt that Mom may be worried about me being alone. She kept rubbing my hair and she looked so sad too," as she snuggled into his embrace.
"So I told her, 'Mom, I am doing fine now, Grandma is here, Sis is here, and I also have Xiqing here.' and hopefully that will calm her soul," she said while placing her head comfortably in the crook of his neck.
Li Xiqing planted a soft kiss on her forehead. His broad palm was rubbing her back, as her sleepy voice rang out narrating her dream to him. He did not say anything, and just offered his whole self and listened.
"Mm you smell so good," she said drowsily while rubbing her cheek onto his skin, "how was your meeting today?"
Li Xiqing chuckled, and he wrapped her closer to him, and whispered, "Let's talk tomorrow. Let's sleep now, alright?"
And his hands just kept rubbing her back, moving up and down slowly; hypnotizing her to sleep. And his legs linked with hers protectively.
Shao Yan gradually lost her consciousness and started to dream of another beautiful adventure with Li Xiqing.

The week started too fast for Shao Yan. The year was closing to the end, and everyone was involved in the end of year party planning.
She and her team had been running around trying to coordinate everything. 24 hours in a day just did not seem enough.
"So, his sister and brother in law are visiting soon?"
Risa was walking beside Shao Yan as they were heading to a meeting room.
Today, she put on a light purple dress with knee length boots. Her trademark ponytail was swaying elegantly as she walked.
Meanwhile, Shao Yan was wearing a white and black striped blouse with dark blue jeans and knee-length boots. In her hands, she was carrying her laptop, notebook and also her water tumbler.
"Yes. Xiqing said, his sister is arriving sometime tonight or tomorrow, he couldn't remember," and then she glanced back to Risa, "what do you know about them?"
Risa snickered at her, and with her elbow, she nudged Shao Yan, "Oh!! Are you trying to fish information from me? Since you know Grandma sent someone to look into Daniel?" And then she burst into giggles that really irritated Shao Yan.
She took a step to the side, trying to avoid her jab, "No. I was just.. I was just curious, is all," she stuttered but quickly continued, "if you have nothing to say, then that's fine."
Shao Yan turned and about to walk away, when Risa hastened her pace and threw one arm around her shoulder.
"You sulk so easily, Sis," Risa poked Yan Yan on her cheek, "I didn't say I won't share the information anyway," and then again she burst to giggles to purposely annoy Shao Yan.
"Mandy, only one year older than Daniel. She studied nursing in university but then she realized that she was really passionate about history and literature. She decided to drop out and travel around Europe backpacker style," Risa started to tell Shao Yan, "she worked a lot of odd jobs when she was overseas; you know, being waitress, translator, or shopkeeper and all that."
Shao Yan was listening quietly while Risa kept rambling on.
"Hm. From the picture alone, she looks really pretty. I can't really say much about her background, overall she is just normal. She met her husband while travelling. They dated for a few years. No nonsense drama in her report either."
Risa held her laptop in front of her chest and wrapped both of her arms around it, "I think looking at how close Daniel and his sister is, it should be safe to assume that you will like her too, Yan Yan."
Shao Yan nodded along her words, "En, I hope so too. Every time Xiqing speaks about this sister, I can feel his affection towards her. So I really want to get along with her."

"What about her husband? Anything that I need to be aware of?"
Risa tilted her head to the side as she tried to remember what the report had said. Her side fringe was swiped to the side; softening her facial feature; as her eyebrows scrunched together and she slightly bit her inner cheek.
In a glance, Shao Yan could see a trace of her own father doing the same gesture. There was a moment in the past, when Shao Yan caught her father doing that, she would poke him on the cheek and say, "Got you!"
Unconsciously, she brought her head down, and smiled to herself, while thinking, 'Biological inheritance really won't go far,' and then she chuckled softly.
Risa, aware of her light mood, perked up and saw Shao Yan was smiling to herself.
"What? What were you thinking just now?" she asked.
Shao Yan quickly adjusted her smile; but her curved lips were still arching so wide; she could not purse her lips in time.
"It's nothing. All of a sudden, I was just reminded of father and our interactions," and then she quickly asked Risa, "so, anyway, what do you remember about her husband?"
Risa squinted her eyes, as if she did not believe her, but still answered Yan Yan on her question anyway, "Hm. Chen Yufeng came from an antique dealer family. His parents were Chinese people who studied in Germany and decided to stay there after they graduated," she started.
"He has a younger sister who I think also lives in Shanghai now," and then Risa took a long pause trying to remember the details from the report, "to be honest, I can't really remember much about him. Only his background in antiques piqued my interest and that was why I still remember that part."
"But what I remember is that, both Mandy and her husband have worked so hard their whole lives, to be in their position today. When he was only 17, Yufeng took over the antique dealer business from his parents, and also recently started his own investment company. They are not from the royal blue blood. They are just people like us who climb up normally as well. So don't worry too much."
