Two blue and white ceramic bowls were blowing hot steam on top of the granite kitchen island.
Li Xiqing had prepared some wolfberry and ginger chicken soup tonight. After he ladled the final scoop of the soup, he put the empty saucepan into the kitchen sink.
His hands reached out to the back of his neck to untie the apron that he had put on, "So, hubby, you're grateful now that your wife is doing a proper job in the kitchen, right?"
The apron fell on to his hands; he grabbed it and set it on the kitchen counter, and then walked over to Shao Yan.
She beamed at his approach and put both of her hands on his waist. Shao Yan pulled Li Xiqing closer to her, "Of course. I have the best in the world," she tiptoed a little to peck his lips, "thank you for cooking tonight, wifey."
As she was about to step back, Li Xiqing put his hands around her waist and lifted her up. He sat Shao Yan on the kitchen counter, with both of his hands placed on each side of her thighs; caging her.
"So, what did you say about this guy who is as handsome as me? I didn't catch that earlier. Why don't you say it again?"
Li Xiqing had his face so close to her. A little tilted to the side, he scrutinized her every expression while leaning closer and closer. His lips were only an inch away from hers.
Shao Yan pursed her lips. She linked both arms around his neck, "You heard wrongly, Xiqing. How could there be another person as handsome as you," and as she finished saying that, Shao Yan leaned her face closer to him. She caught his lower lips; closing her eyes, she started to nibble a little.

Li Xiqing leaned closer and wrapped both of his arms around her back; gradually bringing her whole body to mold into his embrace.

"I think we should eat now before the soup cools down."
Li Xiqing leaned his forehead against hers, trying to catch some air and control his desire. He bent his fingers, and gently skimmed her cheek while his blazing gaze stared deep into her eyes.
"En," she said weakly, "but," she paused while trying to also get some air, "you owe me this tonight," Shao Yan said as she traced her trembling fingers over his lips.
She cupped both of her hands over his jaw and gave a small peck against the corner of his lips.

On the table, Shao Yan could see that Li Xiqing has cooked a variety of dishes tonight.
Honey grilled pork chop, garlic stir fry green beans, steamed egg with dried shrimps and wolfberry ginger chicken soup.
"I was making this to practice for Mandy. This is her favorite dish," Li Xiqing said as he pointed to the honey grilled pork chop.
Shao Yan nodded as she scooped the steamed egg into her bowl, "This dried shrimps smell so fragrant. Is this the one that Grandma gave to us last time?"
Li Xiqing nodded as he picked up some green beans and put them onto Yan Yan's plate.
"Yes, the wolfberries for the soup are also the one that she gave us last time. Very good stuff."
Shao Yan glanced at the bowl in front of her. She took a spoon and started to stir the content around.
Taking a spoonful of soup, she brought it to her lips to taste the broth.
Once the spoon left her mouth, Shao Yan looked up at Li Xiqing. Her round eyes went larger than usual, "Whoa Xiqing! The wolfberry tasted so sweet, the broth was so good. How long did you brew the soup for?"
Shao Yan looked down into her bowl again and started to poke on the chicken drumstick I side her bowl, "The meat is so tender, what time you came home today? I see this could easily take two hours, maybe?"
Li Xiqing smiled helplessly at her excitement, "Let's start eating now, don't let the soup get too cold," and then he picked up his own chopsticks and started to eat.
"En. I'm so hungry," Shao Yan also followed suit and started to eat, "I had back to back meetings the whole day. My butt hurt so much from sitting for too long," she pouted before she put some rice into her mouth.
Shao Yan started to tell him about how her day went, and all the complaints that she had for the day.
'Wifey, I feel so tired!' she thought to herself and started to pour out her grievances.

"Oh, Xiqing, I forgot to ask you."
After dinner, Shao Yan decided to put all the dirty plates into the dishwasher. She was standing by the kitchen sink while organizing all the plates into the machine, and then she remembered what she saw just now at the underground parking garage.
She turned to glance at Li Xiqing who was wiping the dining table, "Just now, I didn't see Mandy's car in the garage. Did you take it somewhere?"
