From the front, it was just a simple gate.
There was a little over an hour left until the sunset, the sky was painted in slight reddish gold, reflecting the warm touches onto the bamboo sign.
Shao Yan got out of the car while still looking in awe at her surroundings.
This forest was a small tourist attraction in this suburb area. Most of the people living in this small town actually worked to maintain the bamboo forest as their main job. It was already late in the day, and not so many people were around.
Shao Yan was standing by the car when Li Xiqing walked to her side and offered his hand.
She glanced at him, took his hand, and they started to walk together to the entrance.
Their surroundings were so quiet, Shao Yan could hear her own footsteps.
"How did you find this place?"
Li Xiqing glanced at her before turning his head back to the front, "I remember when we were in Japan, you really wanted to go to Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, but we did not go because there was no time."
"So, I started reading. We are in China, I'm pretty sure we have much more bamboo forest than Japan. And that was when I found out about this place."
Shao Yan slowly smiled at his words. She tugged their linked hands, and planted a kiss on his cheek, "Thank you," and then she quickly dragged him forward, "let's go, the place should be closing soon when it gets dark."
She rushed to enter the forest with Li Xiqing in tow.

When they had entered the gate, steps made of bamboo planks greeted them on sight.
While holding her hand tight within his palm, Li Xiqing moved to walk in front of her. He stepped on each plank as he guided her along carefully.
"This place," she started to whisper, "is so serene."
Everywhere around her was so quiet, Shao Yan could hear each rustle of the leaves and each flap of the bird wings.
Unconsciously, the two of them slowed down their steps, as they spoke really low which each other, while immersing themselves into the soothing air that was blanketed them.
"Growing up, I did not get the chance to visit a lot of places like this," Li Xiqing raised his head a little higher to look at the tall bamboo trees, "we grew up in cities, surrounded by concrete buildings and over crowdedness."
"Do you like to be in the middle of greenery?"
"I do, I think it brings a unique sense of peacefulness. That is why I prefer to take a break to look at the greenery around the office," he replied to her.
"Even when I moved to New York, I would take the time to run around Central Park, just to recharge myself."
Shao Yan smiled at him and nodded, "Then, you will love this venue that I picked for the year end celebration."
Looking at her giggles, Li Xiqing was also smiling along with her.
"So, can you tell me how or where this place is?"
"No," Shao Yan shook her head, "but I am very confident that you will love not only the surrounding outside the building, but also the interior itself," she said confidently.

"What about you? Do you like the mountain, or do you prefer the beach?"
Each step was very light, as they strolled around the forest.
When Li Xiqing bought the entrance ticket just now, the lady who greeted them had told them, they would only have around thirty to forty five minutes to walk around, as the forest would be closing soon.
But even that short time was enough for the two of them to enjoy the view as they chatted with each other.
Her forehead slowly scrunched together as she bit her lower lip and thought of the answer.
"Hmm," Shao Yan started to say, "I love both of the,, because they serve different purposes, in my opinion."
"When I am feeling happy or sad, the beach will be a perfect place to unwind."
Shao Yan was walking in front of him. She turned around to face him, while she kept on talking and walking backwards.
"Imagine this," she raised both hands, and stretched them to the side, "the sound of waves are surrounding you as the wind blew on your face and your hair. Feel your bare feet which are stepping on the grain of sand as we walk together hand in hand during sunset."
And then she grinned wide at him, "Doesn't it make you happy? Also when you are sad, and you think of that picture in your mind, you will feel happy again."
Shao Yan clasped both hands and brought them behind her back. She turned around to walk next to Li Xiqing again.
"The mountain, on the other hand, is the place where I want to immerse in peace and tranquility. Just me and nature, and nothing in between," she looked up at him, "just like how we were in Japan."
"Going back to nature, and being one with it. It is the most perfect getaway."

"So, Grandma, Yan Yan will arrange a family dinner next week. What do you think?"
Risa and Grandma were sitting inside her comfortable Lexus GS F sedan. The platinum car was travelling along the highway.
After Shao Yan and Li Xiqing left the cake shop, some of their companies stayed behind for around thirty minutes to one hour before gradually one by one started to leave.
When Mandy and Axel decided to go, Risa and Grandmother had just decided the same.
"En," Grandmother hummed, "you can arrange as you need. I trust you."
Risa was concentrating on driving, "Sure, Grandmother. Just leave this to me."
"Choose some good quality leaves for his sister and her husband. I noticed today that both of them are fond of tea as well," Grandmother added.
"It was only a glimpse, but so far, I can see they are good people," she said, before Grandma Wu closed her eyes to rest along the journey back home.
