Shao Yan was not lying when she said the food would be a great enjoyment. She had heard a lot of compliments about this chef and his team, and truly she experienced a real culinary escapade.
Plates after plates of food came out from the kitchen and served to the guests with the utmost impeccable presentations.
The opening course was a soup. From above, Shao Yan could see the broth had a shape of a peach fruit. It had gradation of colors from nectarine to yellow and then milky white shade. The whole presentation looked heavenly, Shao Yan felt hesitant to even dip her spoon in it.
Gently, Shao Yan scooped a spoonful of the broth and had a taste. As her lips touched the rim of her spoon, she could immediately taste the fragrance of sesame while at the same time, a hint of lotus seeds hit her nostril; transporting her to the land of heavenly attacks on her taste buds.
After that, the dishes kept coming out one after another, Shao Yan could not help feeling an endless wave of surprises.

As it was an internal event, the whole feeling of the night was more intimate and casual.
During the break in between courses, Shao Yan noticed that some people would get up from their seats and start walking around to greet people. Soft lullaby music played in the background while others were still enjoying the food in front of them.
Shao Yan glanced to her right, and with one finger, she poked Li Xiqing on his arm, "Xiqing, your phone is blinking. Don't you want to take a look?"
He picked up the napkin from his lap, and slowly dabbed it onto his lips, "It's fine. It must be the notification for incoming messages."
"Hmm," she hummed to his replies, "you can take a look. I am going to find Risa to say hello, alright?" After she finished her last words, Shao Yan slowly got up from the seat.
She patted his shoulder lightly before scanning around the room to find Risa.
The lightings had been dimmed, so it was a little difficult for her to recognize some faces. Shao Yan had to rely on her memory to remember which table number Risa was seating at. After she remembered her direction, Shao Yan started to walk around.

Watching her retreating figure, he brought his gaze back to the plate in front of him. Contemplating for a while, Li Xiqing finally picked up his phone, and unlocked the screen. He saw that the notification was indeed coming from the group chat.
Feeling an indescribable fear in his heart over the incoming replies, he took a deep breath before his fingers started to open the messaging application to read.
"WHOAAA! What is this? I mean who is this angel??"
"She is sooooo pretty!"
"Xiqing, she is too skinny, tell her to eat more. Is she cold?"
"En. Good choice on the antique bracelets."
"My dear, don't start on the antiques. Compliment her whole look!"
"Qing Qing! Take more pictures! I love her dress!"
"You know your brother hates that nickname."
"Daddy, what do you think of your daughter in law?"

"Daddy, don't dot dot dot me!"
"En, your brother has good eyes."

"Xiqing, what is her favorite color? Mommy will get her a scarf and a handbag. She will love them."

Li Xiqing could not continue to read further as he felt his head was throbbing. He locked the phone and put it away.
He was grateful that his family was close to each other. He just needed time to adjust to this whole group chat situation. He reached out his hand to pick up the tall glass and started to sip the water.
The master of ceremony for tonight was walking around and playing some games with different tables to keep the party lively. Li Xiqing leaned back on his seat to watch the show and saw some people were standing up and started to play along with the master of ceremony.
By habit, his eyes unconsciously started to scan around the dimmed room, trying to locate Shao Yan.
He was about to get up from his seat to walk towards her, when Li Xiqing saw that the door to the kitchen was opened again. A dozen servers in white uniforms were carrying silver trays of food. He glanced back at Shao Yan who was also looking at the coming parade.
She turned her head around and saw Li Xiqing was also looking at her.
Tilting her head to the side, she stuck out her tongue at him before slowly let out a gentle smile at Li Xiqing. Shao Yan turned her head back around, and said a couple more things to Risa, before she patted her shoulder and bid her goodbye; Shao Yan then started to walk back to their table.

The whole meal experience was marvelous. Shao Yan had no other words to describe it.
Throughout the meal, she was again and again impressed by the presentation and taste of the meal.
"En," Shao Yan said as she nodded her head, while mumbling, "I can see why Mandy jie has high regards towards this chef."
She turned around, and placed her hand on top of Li Xiqing's arm.
"For our family dinner, should we bring your parents and Grandma to eat at this place? The chef is amazing!"
Li Xiqing returned her smile and placed his own hand over hers, "I am already ahead of you. The reservation was made last week."
Shao Yan ginned cheekily at him, "That's awesome! Your parents will love it too!"
When she was about to say more, a sound of knocks was heard from the hall speaker.
"Ladies and gentlemen, how was dinner so far? Isn't it remarkable?"
The master of ceremony was standing on a podium and started to talk to the guests.
Some people started to murmur, and some even answered him loudly.
"Alright then! Are you ready to continue the night?"
All the guests in the room started to cheer loudly, and some even clapped for him.
"The last course of the night, the dessert will be served shortly."
He paused, while delivering a sense of mystery to excite the guests.
"Now everyone, please join me at the hall outside, you will be served with your amazing dessert of a lifetime!"
