Chapter 222: Joyful Night

"So, where is my brother in law?" Shao Yan was changing the channel on the TV while absentmindedly accompanying Risa with small talks every now and then, "How come I have not seen him yet?"
Risa glanced at her, before looking at Grandma Wu with a questionable glance.
The old lady was leaning on the sofa while looking at both of her granddaughters chatting with each other happily. Noticing the glance that Risa threw at her and realizing its meaning, Grandma Wu turned solemn before she let out a soft sigh.
She gave a little nod at Risa, who then cleared her throat before replying to Shao Yan.
"Yan Yan, how about... when I am discharged from the hospital, let me bring you to see your brother in law?"
Shao Yan was busy with the remote control in her hand, she was not able to find the show that she wanted to watch, "Sure. Is he busy or something?"
Risa paused for a moment, before humming a vague reply, "En," she cleared her throat again, "should we order something to eat, Yan Yan? I am guessing you are staying here until dinner?"
Having heard her question, Shao Yan was brought back to her attention.
"Oh!" She turned around to face Risa, "I just remembered, Xiqing texted me earlier. He said he wanted to come over. We can just ask him to bring us some food on his way here then."
Shao Yan got up from her chair, and walked to the cabinet where she had put her purse on.
She took out her mobile phone from inside the purse, "What do you feel like eating, Grandma?"

"Hmm..." He paused as he read all the charts in his hands, "your temperature and all vital signs are good. Blood pressure is still a little on the lower side, we will adjust this with your meal tonight. But other than that, you are recovering really well."
He paused to read more, before saying, "I want you to stay for another night for us to monitor you, and then you can go home tomorrow, " The doctor looked up from the board in his grasp and stared at Risa, "Alright?"
He handed the board in his hand to the nurse who was standing patiently next to him. The doctor was talking at a moderate speed, making sure the patient understood every word he said. Risa nodded at every word he just said, "En, I understand."
Satisfied with his patient's obedient reply, he turned around, and looked at Grandmother Wu.
"Grandma, everything looks good. You don't have to worry. You have stayed here the whole day, please don't tire yourself, alright?"
Grandmother Wu was beaming with all smiles at the young doctor.
'Good looking face, very good manner, hmm.. Overall is a good candidate,' she thought to herself while nodding.
The young doctor assumed Grandmother Wu was nodding at his words, so he felt more appreciated, "Now, I will have to continue my rounds. I will be back tomorrow at ten o'clock to check her charts again, before she can go home, alright?"
And then he glanced around the room, looking at Risa, Shao Yan and then back at Grandma Wu, "Good night, everyone."
He flashed a polite smile, before walking out of the room with the nurses following closely behind him.

Just as the door was opened, Li Xiqing was standing in front of the door, with his hand stretched forward as if he was about to open the door.
He took a few steps back to let the doctor and nurses walk out, "Thank you, doctor," he said as they walked past each other.
After the doctor walked away, Li Xiqing walked into the hospital room again.
"Grandma, how are you doing?" He walked straight to Grandmother Wu while holding multiple paper bags in his hands., "You must be hungry, we can eat now."
After placing the paper bags in his hands, he glanced at Yan Yan, "Come over and eat now?"
Shao Yan, who was already walking over, nodded her response, "Did you bring the fruit juice?"
Li Xiqing nodded, and grabbed inside one of the bags, "Here," he said as he passed a bottle to Shao Yan, "fresh squeezed, no extra sugar, as you requested."
Her lips slowly curled in a happy smile, "Thank you," she took it from his hands and walked back to Risa, "Sis, your meal will only come in about thirty minutes, you can drink this first to pad your tummy."
Risa smiled at her words. She felt that Yan Yan had been spoiling her today.
"En," Risa received the bottle from Shao Yan, and then she quickly said, "You and Grandma should eat first. Don't worry about me." Shao Yan nodded at her suggestion, and walked back to Li Xiqing and Grandma Wu who were sitting at the lounge; ready to eat their own meals.
Shao Yan had requested Li Xiqing to get some herbal chicken soup and some other dishes. Knowing Grandma and Yan Yan's preference, Li Xiqing selected a few vegetable dishes and some hotpot tofu with mushrooms to accompany the herbal chicken soup.

About two hours later, everyone finally finished their dinner. Shao Yan was sitting next to Grandma Wu and peeled an orange for her.
All of a sudden, Risa said "Xiqing," she was wiping her mouth with a napkin before continuing, "uh… why don't you and Yan Yan come over to my house this weekend?"
Li Xiqing was bending over the low table in front of him as he cleaned up all the empty bowls from their dinner. He paused his action and then shot a glance at Shao Yan; telling Yan Yan with his stare that she should be the one deciding on this, and that he did not have any concern.
Risa, recognizing the stare that Li Xiqing gave to Yan Yan, quickly continued, "Yan Yan has been wanting to meet her brother in law," she paused and cleared her throat, "I think this weekend should be the most suitable time."
Shao Yan stood up from the couch and walked over to her bedside. Shao Yan thought Risa needed some water to clear her dry throat so she picked up the water jug and poured some into the clear glass that she was holding.
She passed it to Risa, "En, sounds good. Any preference on the time, Sis?"
Risa turned her glance away from Shao Yan and looked at Grandma Wu. Her face was showing that she was asking Grandma Wu to decide.
Grandmother Wu crossed both hands in front of her lap and leaned back to the couch. She paused for a while before she replied to Yan Yan, "Hmm.. Come over for breakfast, Yan Yan," she turned to face Li Xiqing, "say around seven o'clock? We will have breakfast together."
"You don't have to bring anything, Grandma will cook for you," she let out a very rare smile at Li Xiqing, who had just gone back to sit down. He returned her smile with his own charming smile and nodded, "Thank you, Grandma, then Yan Yan and I will have to trouble you with that."
Grandma Wu burst into a hearty laugh, "What are you thanking for. We are all one big family, no need this courtesy," and then she laughed again.
Shao Yan with her back to Risa was laughing along with them. The three of them did not notice the change in Risa's facial expression. A flash of pain, sadness and happiness all jumbled into one after another.
And at the end, she could only force out a weak smile to join the joyful atmosphere in the room.

He took a few steps back to let the doctor and nurses walk out, "Thank you, doctor," he said as they walked past each other.
After the doctor walked away, Li Xiqing walked into the hospital room again.
