Chapter 223: The Meetup

The week passed by very slowly. That night, after they arrived home from the hospital, she was so tired; the two of them went to sleep right after they freshened up.
The company was on vacation mode for the whole week due to New Year holidays. Shao Yan and Li Xiqing spent the week by cleaning the house.
"We need to go back to my apartment to open the windows and let some air inside," she suggested. Li Xiqing agreed that it was a good idea and so, they decided to also clean her apartment while they were visiting there.
Qi Ling had texted her again to tell her about her return date. They talked using online phone service for almost two hours. So many things had happened in the past few months, and both Shao Yan and Qi Ling had too many things to tell each other.
Li Xiqing had just showered when he stepped into the bedroom. He saw Shao Yan lying on the bed on her stomach. Both of her feet were dangling happily in the air. All of a sudden, she burst out loud; she was rolling to the side and facing the ceiling.
"No way, Ling Ling! You did not just do that?!" She exclaimed in a huge surprise.
Li Xiqing could hear vague sounds coming from her earphones as Qi Ling continued telling her the funny stories. Looking at how big of a smile that she had right now, he was infected by the happiness emitted by her laughs.
Li Xiqing smiled to himself and decided to walk out of the bedroom and go to his study room to give the space for the two best friends to chat.

On Saturday morning, Shao Yan and Li Xiqing arrived at Risa's apartment exactly at seven o'clock. It was only a thirty minute ride from their apartment to Risa's.
Since Grandma Wu had told them to come for breakfast, they did not snack or drink anything, and quickly left the house once they were all set.
Her unit was located on the fifth floor. Li Xiqing just reached out to press the elevator button, when Shao Yan suddenly grabbed hold of his wrist. He glanced to the side and looked quizzically at her.
"Uh," She started, "it's only the fifth floor. Let's take the stairs?"
He raised his eyebrows in surprise, but did not comment on it. Li Xiqing pulled his hand back and nodded, "Alright, that's a good idea."
The two of them then walked to the emergency staircase area and started to climb the stairs.

"Oh! You have arrived, just right on time. Come on in," Grandma Wu stepped to the side as she let the couple come inside the apartment.
"En, Grandma," Shao Yan walked in, and quickly squeezed Grandma Wu into a hug. She slowly let go, and a huge grin appeared on her face, "morning, Grandma!" And then all of a sudden, Shao Yan moved closer and planted a kiss on Grandma's cheek.
A loud smooch sound was heard as she showed her affection towards Grandma. Slowly, Shao Yan released her hold around Grandma Wu who was playfully swatting her hands before burst into a laugh.
"Grandma, good morning," Li Xiqing was smiling at the two playful grandmother and granddaughter and his heart was filled with indescribable warmth.
"Oh, Xiqing, Yan Yan, come in, come in," another sound welcomed the couple from behind them.
Shao Yan glanced around and saw Risa just came out of a bedroom, and walked towards them.
"Sis!" Shao Yan bent over and took off her shoes, and then she put on the house slippers before walking inside the house.
"En, are you hungry yet?" Risa was standing still while waiting for Shao Yan to walk closer.
Shao Yan nodded, "En," she said, "very! What did Grandma cook today?"
The two women walked to the left side of the house and disappeared into the kitchen.
Grandma Wu shook her head helplessly while looking at her two granddaughters. She looked at Li Xiqing who was standing quietly next to her, "Sit down, Xiqing. Breakfast will be ready soon."
He nodded, before saying, "Grandma, you sit down first, let me help them in the kitchen."
Grandma Wu waved both of her hands in front of her and pretended to sigh loudly, "Haih, no need to worry, let them do whatever they want there. You accompany this old lady here and let us wait for good food to come to us."

Breakfast was sumptuous yet light at the same time.
Grandma had fried some Chinese pancakes, filled with chopped scallions and minced pork. She had also prepared homemade donut sticks to accompany minced pork porridge that she had cooked since last night.
"Grandma boiled the pork bone soup since last night, so that all the rice would soak up all the nutrition," Risa explained when she scooped a bowl of porridge and handed it over to Shao Yan.
She took it with both hands, and placed them on top of the dining table.
"En, I can see everything was done very meticulously, Sis!" Shao Yan said as she scanned over the dining table.
Grandma Wu had also prepared steamed vegetables with oyster garlic sauce. Preserved radish was chopped finely and spread on top of it.
"Yan Yan, help me to set the table, the spoons are over there," Risa said with her back to her as she kept scooping the porridge.
Shao Yan walked over to the kitchen cabinet and started to search, "By the way, Sis, why are you only preparing four bowls? Is my brother in law not joining us for breakfast?"
Risa paused her movement, before she slowly put down the bowl in her hands. She glanced over her shoulder to answer Shao Yan, "En, he won't be joining us. We will eat first, and then we will go meet him, alright?"
Shao Yan nodded, "Sure, that's fine," and then she continued her search for the spoon and chopsticks.

Another hour later, they had finally finished her breakfast. Shao Yan leaned back on the dining chair and felt so content.
"Grandma," she wailed, "I don't know if I have to feel sad or happy that you don't stay with us."
She rubbed her stomach and put on a very pitiful face, "Your food is too good. If I eat this every day, I think I will easily gain a lot of weight."
Grandma Wu, Risa and Li Xiqing burst into laughs.
"You!" With her index finger, Grandma Wu was pointing at Shao Yan, "Such sweet words, who did you learn this from!" She feigned anger while scolding her granddaughter.
Shao Yan stuck out her tongue before snuggling to her arms closely.
Risa was laughing at these antics. Looking at the time displayed by the clock on the wall, she got up from the seat and looked at Shao Yan and Li Xiqing.
"Yan Yan, Xiqing," and then she glanced at Grandma Wu before returning to the couple, "Shall I introduce you to your brother in law now?"
Shao Yan happily got up from her chair, "Sure!" Li Xiqing also got up from his chair and nodded.
Risa turned around and started to walk towards a bedroom with Shao Yan and Li Xiqing following closely behind her.
As they were standing in front of the room, Risa reached out her hands and opened the door slowly. She walked inside, and left the door wide open for Shao Yan and Li Xiqing to come in.
"Darling, I want you to meet my cousin, Yan Yan and her boyfriend, Xiqing."
