"When one of the guys started to touch my arm, I was ready to scream and call the police," Shao Yan continued, "When all of a sudden, a man walked over to my rescue."
A smile formed on her lips as she continued, "He yelled at them and he chased them away."
The smile grew bigger.
"At the time, I was really grateful that the man decided to stay with me until the hooligans left the scene."
She slowly raised her index finger and pointed at the purse.
"If not for your purse, I would have forgotten about that day."
Vivian slowly looked down to her lap and stared at her most prized handbag.
"I remember that after the man left, I saw a very beautiful woman who stood not ten feet away."
Shao Yan paused when she saw Vivian's face went pale.
"The woman was crying for him, she was holding onto that bag, looking like she was full of sorrow."
Shao Yan looked away from Vivian, out the window, "She was clutching it so tightly, and I remembered thinking to myself, 'Ah, what a beautiful bag, and yet she was crying so sorrowfully,' and then I saw the woman walk away in the arms of another man."
Shao Yan paused.
"I also remember thinking to myself, if she loved the man so much that she cried for him, why was she in another man's embrace now," and then Shao Yan stayed silent.
Vivian was not saying anything either. Her trembling fingers slowly brushed the bag on her lap.
"The day was supposedly a very bad day for me; but I was feeling happy that someone came to my rescue," Shao Yan looked down to her cup again, and she slowly picked it up.
Her lips were touching the edge of the cup before she said, "The man who saved the day, sparked a new hope in my heart."
She looked up and met Vivian's eyes, "The sparkling mood that day was similar to how glittering your bag is today."
And after Shao Yan finished saying that, she was surprised at herself.
'Ah!' Shao Yan realized, 'So that was why I was feeling sad and happy at the same time earlier.'
She slowly sipped on her tea while thinking, 'Human destiny is really unpredictable."

No one said anything for a while.
A soft piano music was playing in the background, hoping to bring out a cheerful mood to the customers who were enjoying their drinks inside the cafe.
Shao Yan was enjoying her tea in silence. Her mind was travelling back to that day.
After seeing Vivian's reactions just now, Shao Yan was even more convinced that the man that day could be Li Xiqing.
Was it really him?' Shao Yan promised to herself, 'I will have to talk to him later.'
She was giddy with excitement as she thought about how he would react when he heard of this story.

After she realized that she had finished her tea, Shao Yan glanced at her watch.
"Vivian, it was nice meeting you today," Shao Yan smiled at her and slowly got up from her seat.
"And no, please don't call me Yan Yan," Shao Yan paused as she stared into her eyes.
"If you really want us to be friends, I would appreciate it so much if you can start by calling me Shao Yan."
She stood next to the table and kept her stare at Vivian. The red maroon velvet box was still sitting on top of the table; untouched.
Shao Yan glanced at it for a second, and then back to Vivian.
"And I don't think I should be bringing that back to our house. As you said, it was given to you in the past, so I believe Xiqing does not need it as well. You can do whatever you want with it."
Shao Yan paused to let the words sink in.
"I believe Xiqing when he said everything between you two was already in the past."
"So, I hope we can be cordial in the future," Shao Yan brushed off the non-existent dust on her arm sleeves, "I have to excuse myself first as I still have work to do. I hope you have a nice day."
And then without waiting for Vivian to answer her, Shao Yan walked to the cashier to pay for all of their orders.
Regardless of her motives in meeting her today, Shao Yan did not wish to owe anything to this woman.
"Excuse me, can you also pack all of those cakes there into individual boxes, please?" Shao Yan pointed at the remaining ten or so cake slices in the display cabinet.
Her cheery mood influenced her to reward her team with desserts.

When Shao Yan walked back to the event area, all of her team leaders were wrapping up their summary session.
"Manager Shao!"
"Xiao Yan!"
"Ah Team Lead, you're finally here!"
One by one, they were calling out to her. Her team members were even more excited when they saw she was carrying multiple plastic bags in her hands. And through the transparent material, they could see the famous brand for desserts.
Shao Yan noticed their line of sight. She handed over the plastic bags in her hands, "Here, take them! Those are rewards for all of your hard work today."
She grinned as she said that; inviting cheers from everyone around her.
Fan jie stood next to her and patted her shoulder, "We are already wrapping up here, Xiao Yan."
Shao Yan nodded and saw some of the authors were also walking out.
"Thank you for today, Fan jie," Shao Yan continued, "Are you guys going back to the office now?"
Wenhai shook his head, "Only some people with the excess materials will go because they need to store them back in the office, but the rest of us can go home."
Shao Yan nodded, and then she clapped her hands, "Alright, team leaders, good job today! Anyone who has finished their work, can enjoy the rest of the day from home. Thank you again, everyone!"
After she finished saying that, everyone started to clap their hands to congratulate themselves and each other for the good work for the day.
Shao Yan started to collect the stuff that she could bring with her, and then she decided to go home.

"Shao Yan!"
Just as she was about to leave, Li Na was jogging towards her, "Wait up!"
Shao Yan turned around and saw she was coming to her directions with a plastic bag in her hand.
When she finally stood in front of her, Li Na passed the plastic bag in her hands, "Here!"
She continued while taking breaths as she spoke, "Everyone has taken their share of desserts, but there is one left for you."
Shao Yan swept her gaze around the others behind Li Na and saw everyone had started to leave.
"Take it, and enjoy it with Daniel Li," Li Na started to tease.
She looked back at Li Na and took the bag with her, "Alright, i'll take it then. Thanks for today, Li Na. Don't stay up too late and go home right away!"
Li Na grinned at her, "Fan jie and I are going shopping after this."
"Of course you are!" Shao Yan nodded with a smile, "Alright! Have fun then, I'll see you back in the office tomorrow!"
She turned around on her heels and started to walk to the parking garage. She took out her phone and started to type a text message.
'I just finished the event, I'm going home now. Where are you?'
And then she hit the send button to send it to Li Xiqing.
