Knock. Knock.

The two people in the room reflexively looked up towards the door.

Hiroto glanced down at Helen who had averted her gaze back to her father who was laying on the bed. Her attention was solely on Ido Kanagawa.

Hiroto was wondering if she did not care at all; or if she just trusted Hiroto and his men enough.

Before he got the chance to answer the knock, the door was opened from the outside.

Hiroto saw that several people were standing in front of the room. They were not able to enter because the two bodyguards, that Hiroto had assigned to guard the door, were standing still and not allowing anyone to take a step further.

....

The first man that entered his view was the doctor that was assigned to Ido Kanagawa.

Two female nurses and two unfamiliar men were standing closely behind him.

"Can I help you, doctor?" Hiroto addressed him from his place while still standing by the hospital bed, unmoved.

"Did you not just take your screening check half an hour ago? Why are you already back again?"

"Ah, Hiroto-san," The doctor raised his hand and adjusted the glasses by his nose bridge, "there are two detectives here that have requested to talk to you and Miss Kanagawa."

His eyes darkened unhappily and he clenched his fist tightly upon hearing the word "detective".

Helen flinched slightly when she heard what the doctor had said. She glanced at the crowd at the door, and then she looked up at Hiroto.

"Don't talk here," She replied curtly, "If you want, go and talk outside the room, please."

Hiroto gave a small bow at her, before he walked towards the open door.

Helen watched his departing back carefully.

When she heard the soft thump of the closing door, she hurriedly took out her phone and opened the text messaging applications.

'Where the hell are you?' She started to type anxiously.

The screen changed to notify her that it was trying to send out the message. But a few seconds later, Helen saw that her attempt was not successful.

"Dammit!" She cursed under her breath.

She raised on index fingers and started to bite on her fingers nervously. She had been trying to call Charles but he was not available. Her texts were not sent either.

It was as if Charles had disappeared.

Helen started to feel nervous. What actually had happened that day?

....

"Mr. Hiroto Kogawa, I am Detective Gu, and this is Detective Bao."

One of the men handed over a name card which Hiroto received with two hands as a sign of respect.

Upon receiving the card, Hiroto took a quick glance on his name and also his office station before he put it into his shirt pocket.

Detective Gu was a medium built man in his forties. He had a mix of black and grey hair on his head, making him look older than his actual age. He had a dark navy shirt with black jeans; one hand was holding a toothpick in his mouth, chewing on its tips. Detective Gu stood casually in front of the stiff-looking Hiroto, giving out an aura of 'I-don't-care-about-this-world' to anyone who happened to look at him.

Detective Bao, on the other hand, was younger. He looked to be in his thirties. He stood silently by the side, listening carefully to what people said while taking notes in the pocket size book in his hand. He had black shirt and black jeans, with a small, lanky figure and long legs that seemed to be able to run very fast.

"Can you tell us what happened on that day?" Detective Gu started to ask.

Hiroto looked back at him and answered carefully, "What do you mean, Detective?"

Detective Bao answered on his behalf, "We have received a report of disturbance and also potential violence which involves crime."

Hiroto kept quiet, he tilted his head slightly to allow both detectives to continue what they were saying.

The older detective started to say impatiently, "Mr. Hiroto Kogawa, let's start over."

"Can you tell us what happened on Thursday, date xx month xx year xx at 14.00 o'clock?"

....

Hiroto cleared his throat while his mind was churning on how to answer.

He was not sure if he had the authority to answer any questions. Furthermore, this was not his country.

"Detectives, I really want to help," Hiroto started to say, "however, I also know that I am just a visitor in this country, so I need to be careful in the words that I am about to say."

He paused his words and started to analyze the faces of the two detectives.

The younger one, Detective Bao, looked surprised but he quickly masked his expression. He looked down at his notebook and started to write.

While the older one, Detective Gu, was smirking at him; he took out the toothpick from his mouth and clicked his tongue.

"Alright, call your lawyer then," Detective Gu shrugged, "I don't care, I just need answers."

He quickly continued, "But don't take too long, we will come back tomorrow at the same time. Please be ready."

He started walking away, before he turned his heels and glanced back at Hiroto, "Or we have to invite you back to our office to answer your questions ... over tea."

Detective Gu scoffed at Hiroto and then he walked away, "Bao, let's go."

Hiroto stared at the departing detectives until they disappeared in the corner; and then he took out his phone and started to dial some numbers.

....

"How is it?"

He left his gaze from the steak in front of him, and then looked up. Li Xiqing quickly caught under her stare as she looked at him, waiting for his answer.

"En," He finished chewing the meat in his mouth, "it's good."

He paused while trying to really analyze the taste in his mouth, "The meat was seasoned well, and the doneness is also perfect."

He smiled, "I have no complaints."

"Hehe," Shao Yan grinned happily at him, "That's good then!"

Watching her blissful face also triggered a wider smile from him.

Li Xiqing started to tell her about his day.

Shao Yan listened to each story attentively. Every now and then, she would refill his glass of wine; and also started to sip from her own glass slowly.

Tonight, Shao Yan had grilled two perfect steaks for their dinner, accompanied by the rose wine from Mandy.

She felt everything was perfectly in place.

....

"I'll bring you somewhere tomorrow."

Shao Yan closed the dishwasher machine and started to press on the buttons. "Hm?"

She looked at him. Li Xiqing was standing in front of the refrigerator; the door was opened, and he took out a cake box.

"It's a date," and then he closed the door and turned around to face her, "so you need to dress prettily."

Shao Yan was still looking at him, confused.

She was trying to remember. It was not the weekend tomorrow. How rare it was for Li Xiqing to ask her to go out on a weekday.

Li Xiqing could guess what her mind was thinking of.

"Don't tell me...." He slowly said, "That you forgot tomorrow is Valentine's day?"
