“Reporting the Dark Guild to the King”

“[Lark Shadow]”

Using shadow magic, I hide in her shadow. Confirming this, she approached the building that serves as the Dark Guild’s hideout and knocked on the door with a special rhythm.

After a few moments, the door opened slightly, and a man peeked out. After a brief silence, he said, “So it’s you, come in,” and invited her inside.

“So, how did it go?”

“…”

“Oh, right. The mission was strictly confidential, including its success or failure. Forget what just happened.”

It seemed there are certain rules among the assassins, as the man seemed to accept this on his own and walked away. I gave her instructions to go to the guild master and she obediently followed, heading toward the guild master’s location.

Inside the Dark Guild, there didn’t seem to be anything particularly suspicious. It appeared they have repurposed a run-down tavern. The place consisted of shabby tables and chairs, making it inconspicuous and not standing out from its surroundings.

The place where the hideout was located was a place where there are few people and no one went there, so the only people who actually came here were members of the Dark Guild. In other words, it was not that it was an easy place to find, but there were many such places all over the place, so it didn’t really matter.

“Come in.”

Knocking on the door of the room where the guild master should be with a special rhythm, a short response comes from inside. Upon entering, I find a man in his mid-thirties with a scruffy beard. He sits with his feet up on the table, drinking directly from a bottle, fitting the image of a rogue.

“So it’s you. So, how did it go?”

“……”

“Hey, what’s the matter—”

“[Multidimensional Cube]”

Noticing that something is different about her, the guild master becomes suspicious, but it’s already too late. Using the same magic I used to capture her, I bind the guild master. To prevent self-harm through poison or physical means, I also cast the spells [Multipoison Resist] and [Multibody Protect].

By the way, as you could tell from the prefix “Multi” in the spell names, these spells affect everyone within the Dark Guild, so not only the guild master but also the other assassins were simultaneously captured.

“Well then, hello there.”

“Kid, who are you?”

Emerging from her shadow, I greeted the guild master in a casual manner. In response, the guild master, who appeared wary, asked to find out my true identity.

“Let’s just say I’m a simple adventurer. But more importantly, I came to settle the score with the employee and to confirm the client who placed the assassination request on this girl.”

“Hmph, I’m the head of this guild. Even if I die—”

Not intending to waste any more time, I quickly use a magic spell to manipulate his mind and turn him into my puppet. Then, when I asked for the client’s name, I received the expected answer.

“The one who place the assassination on the representative of the Commercio Trading Company is a merchant named Echigoya from the Echigoya Trading Company.”

“Echigoya? No, Echigoya huh? Sounds like a made-up name, but for now, that person is the client.” (+)

The guild master nodded in response to my question. Further details revealed that Echigoya, as the representative, was a merchant who established a trading company near the prime location he obtained from the king. It was said to be a black-leaning company with a questionable reputation.

It turned out that Echigoya himself used to work as a foreman for another trading company, and rumors among merchants suggested that he embezzled the company’s sales funds to finance his own trading company.

In any case, both the trading company and its representative were considered unethical by the Dark Guild’s guild master.

“I see, the client seems to be quite a despicable person.”

“Uh, wh-what have I…?”

“You’ve done well. I have obtained all the necessary information. Now, I should go and confront the king about your actions.”

“W-what…?”

Without waiting for the guild master’s response, I instruct her to keep an eye on him and prevent him from escaping. Then, I teleported directly to the king’s office.

“Hey, how are things going?”

“…Again, you come out of nowhere. What do you want? As you can see, I’m busy…”

When I visited the king, those were his first words in response. Apparently, he was truly busy, as there were piles of documents stacked on his desk.

Furthermore, this time not only the king but also the captain of the Royal Guard, Hannibal, and the chancellor, Varaseth, were present. As soon as Hannibal spotted me, his face lit up, and he addressed me.

“Oh, isn’t it Master! What brings you here today?”

“Well, it’s a long story.”

“What?! You’ve uncovered the Dark Guild’s hideout! As expected of Master!”

“…”

I said it as a joke, but for some reason, Hannibal seemed to understand. Not wanting to deal with it any further, I didn’t react and proceeded to explain the situation to the king. I handed him a simple map indicating the location of the Dark Guild.

“To think that someone would meddle with businesses operated on land managed by the kingdom. Some idiots are out there.”

“I will take care of it immediately.”

Varaseth responded to the king’s mutterings. With this, it was decided that one Dark Guild in the capital would be eliminated. And with that, various considerations came to mind.

“Your Highness, I have a small request for consultation…”

To obtain the king’s consent, I consult him about something. After receiving his approval, I leave the office as it was. Hannibal asked me to train him, but I declined with the usual excuse of being busy. …Given the atmosphere, he might persist until I agreed to train him someday.
