“Evidence Destruction and Employment”

Having returned to the Dark Guild, I called out to the guild master, who was being restrained and watched over by the woman sitting on the floor grasping her knees.

“You’ve done well with the surveillance. That’s enough for now.”

“……”

When I spoke, she stood up and silently looked at me. There was nothing in particular to say, but combined with her expressionless face, it created an oddly uncomfortable atmosphere.

“Now that I’ve informed the king about the Dark Guild’s location, let’s discuss what should be done with you.”

While saying that, I muttered toward her, still wearing that expressionless face. Then, I checked her status once again.

[Condition]

Loyalty (Max)

In terms of abilities, she was somewhat decent from my perspective, but seen from a general standpoint, her abilities were not bad at all. With the presence of magic control and magic manipulation, it seemed that she had a talent for magic.

However, the fact that her condition was “Loyalty” made me wonder who she was loyal to. I don’t think it’s me, of course.

“Oh, ahem. If you’re willing, how about being employed by me?”

“!?”

I tried to propose hiring her as a servant in the mansion in the capital, but as soon as she heard my invitation, she fell to her knees and prostrated herself. …What is she doing?

“…What’s the meaning of this?”

“I will serve you for the rest of my life.”

“So, I’m indeed the target of your loyalty!”

“……”

Though it was a fact I didn’t want to admit, it seemed that her loyalty was directed toward me. I wanted to ask someone how this came to be, but for now, there’s something I need to decide.

“It’s inconvenient for you to have no name when I employ you. So, may I give you a name without your objection?”

“!? … (nodding vigorously).”

For some reason, she didn’t have a name. When I asked for the reason, she explained that she had been living alone since birth, with no parents to name her or anyone to call her by name.

So, I proposed giving her a name that was easy to call, but she kept nodding her head so vigorously that it seemed like her head might come off. There was a somewhat radiant expression on her face, and she seemed to be happy.

I mentioned giving her a name, but I was not particularly good at this kind of thing. However, after seeing her face earlier, I felt hesitant to not name her just because I was not good at it.

(By the way, she looked like Mochimaru while eating sweet potatoes. Mochimaru… Mocchi, Mochimochi, Omochi. Alright, I’ve decided!)

AD

I tried using names related to mochi, but none of them felt quite right. So, I decided to go with my gut feeling and give her a name.

“From today on, you’ll be called Mocha. Best regards from now on.”

“Mocha… Mocha… My name is Mocha.”

She said the name I had given her over and over again, and after a while, as if she was satisfied with it, she said the name she had just given.

Her face was the brightest I had ever seen, accentuating her beautiful features, fair skin, and hair.

“For now, you’ll work as a servant in my mansion, mainly in the background. Are you okay with that?”

“Is that okay? I’ve killed a lot of people.”

“You were only assassinating for this Dark Guild, right? You haven’t taken assassination jobs elsewhere, have you?”

“……? Yes, that’s right,”

She answered, tilting her head cutely. While Mocha seemed to have trouble understanding the intention behind my question, I turned to the still-restrained Guild Master.

“Hey, where are the assassination request documents involving this girl?”

“Hah! Like I’d tell you something so important! I won’t say a word!!”

“We don’t have time for this. Just tell me quickly.”

Using a mind control spell, I forced the Guild Master to reveal the location of the requested documents.

“These seem to be the requested documents. Which ones involve Mocha?”

“They’re the ones labeled ‘White.'”

Apparently, Mocha had been called “White” based on her appearance, but since she was usually addressed as “hey” or “you,” her name didn’t show up in the analysis.

Following the Guild Master’s instructions, I collected all the requested documents labeled “White” and incinerated them using fire magic. Without evidence, it would be impossible to punish Mocha. This way, she would no longer be implicated in any crimes related to the Dark Guild.

I was not a villain, but I was not a saint with a noble spirit either. While I’d saved many people in this world, it was mostly for my own convenience.

Therefore, if necessary, I was willing to break the laws established by the country. I might also take actions that were ethically questionable.

Aside from the requested documents, I disposed of all the evidence linking Mocha to the Dark Guild. With that, any proof of her involvement vanished from this world.

“Alright, now you won’t get caught anymore.”

“……”

“Your past crimes won’t disappear, but to atone for what you’ve done, use your abilities for good and help people in need.”

“Th-thank you.”

Mocha, who had been freed from the Dark Guild, shed tears of gratitude as she no longer carried the burdens that had bound her. However, she swallowed the words that suggested that things might be tough from now on. I waited for Mocha to stop crying and then, in order to introduce her to Sobas and the others in my home, I left the Dark Guild behind.
