“I informed them of Mocha’s background in advance.”

Having completed our operation in the Dark Guild, Mocha and I arrived at the mansion in the royal capital. The purpose, needless to say, was to introduce the newly hired Mocha to the people in the mansion.

When introducing Mocha, I thought it might be necessary to change the way we do it depending on the staff. The reason was simple – she used to be an assassin.

No matter how much I vouched for Mocha’s status, the fact that she was involved in the assassination business wouldn’t just disappear. Having someone like that nearby naturally became a source of awe and fear.

Therefore, my plan was to have her work as a regular maid on the surface, while utilizing her espionage skills cultivated as an assassin to gather information covertly.

In that field, I already have Stella and Manya, whom I recruited from the kingdom, but when it came to gathering information, having many individuals with such abilities could be advantageous due to the sheer volume of work.

“I’m back.”

“Well, well, Rolando-sama. Welcome back.”

As we entered the mansion, Sobas passed by, so I greeted him. Even though he was surprised by my sudden return, he responded politely.

For a moment, everyone’s gaze shifted towards Mocha, but seeing me heading to my room, they followed silently, and thus, they missed the chance to ask who she was.

By the way, I had Mocha wear a hooded cloak to obscure her face and appearance. It was a consideration that it was not very good for the person who was doing the behind-the-scenes work to show their face in public.

Once we arrived in my room, I instructed Sobas to bring the designated servant before introducing Mocha. After a while, Sobas returned with the selected individuals, and I spoke up again.

AD

“First of all, I must apologize for leaving the house in your care for so long. I’m sorry.”

“Why are you apologizing? We are your servant, and it’s only natural for us to manage the mansion.”

Sobas replied, and everyone present nodded in agreement. Well, even if that was the case, I still wanted to express my gratitude with a simple “thank you” before moving on to the main topic.

“Sobas, Mia, Stella, and Manya. The reason I called you all here is to introduce someone I want you to meet. This is Mocha.”

Removing the hood covering her face, Mocha introduced herself briefly, saying, “I’m Mocha. Nice to meet you.”

“Um, Rolando-sama, who is this person?”

“Oh, just as you might have guessed, she’s an assassin.”

“!?”

Upon hearing these unexpected words from me, everyone’s expressions tensed up.

And in the next moment, all four of them assumed combat positions, wielding weapons that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.

Sobas had a sword, Mia had a whip, and Stella and Manya brandished daggers, looking as though they were ready to attack Mocha at any moment… Do you all always carry such things with you?

“Wait, wait! I said she’s a ‘former’ assassin. Did I mention about the business I recently invested in?”

“Yes.”

“So, the representative of that company was attacked. Well, I noticed it, so the representative was unharmed. But the one who attacked was her.”

As I explained, all four of them turned their stern gazes toward Mocha. Well, it was natural for them not to be pleased with someone who attacked a person related to their master. It couldn’t be helped, so I didn’t blame the four of them. However, Mocha seemed uncomfortable under their scrutinizing eyes.

“Anyway, after obtaining the necessary information from her, I went straight to the Dark Guild and made contact with the Guild Master, who had ordered the attack on the representative of the company. After extracting the information about the client, I informed the King about the location of the Dark Guild and returned.”

AD

“What do you intend to do with her then?”

“She seemed capable, so I decided to hire her.”

“Wh-What!?!”

Sobas, in an unusual outburst, but since I hadn’t finished explaining yet, I continued. The other three also seemed speechless at my explanation.

Well, it was understandable that there were few people who could remain calm when they heard that their employer used to be an assassin. Their reactions were quite natural.

After that, I explained that she would be officially employed as a maid apprentice and would also be involved in espionage activities with Stella and Manya.

Naturally, all four of them opposed it, but using my authority as the employer, I managed to persuade them. Well, I wonder if this is what they call abusing one’s authority.

“Anyway, she used to be an assassin, but from now on, she’ll be our colleague. Treat her well.”

“U-understood…”

“Since Rolando-sama said so…”

Sobas and Mia didn’t seem convinced, but they reluctantly agreed due to my instructions. On the other hand, Stella and Manya, who saw her as a colleague in the field of espionage, stared at Mocha with hostile eyes.

“For now, I’ll inform the four of you that she used to be an assassin, but keep this information concealed from the other servants.”

“Understood.”

With Sobas’s consent, the other three also nodded in succession. Next, I decided to make a suggestion since Mocha’s addition would impose a burden on these four.

“Mocha’s inclusion will burden all of you. Therefore, I have decided to introduce a new system where you will receive a bonus twice a year, which will be 30% higher than your current salary.”

AD

“Rolando-sama, what is a bonus?”

It seemed that this system, commonly known as a bonus system, wasn’t familiar to them. I could see question marks floating above everyone’s heads.

A bonus refers to a special payment in addition to the monthly salary and is commonly called a “bonus.”

Generally, the amount of a bonus was equivalent to two to three months’ salary. However, since this was the first one, I decided to specify an amount that was 30% higher than their salary. In other words, if someone’s monthly salary was one large silver coin, they would receive one large silver coin and three medium silver coins. If someone’s salary was five medium silver coins, they would receive six medium silver coins and five small silver coins.

By implementing this twice a year, I aimed to compensate the four of them for the additional burden they would bear with Mocha’s inclusion. Of course, this system would also apply to other servants, so it was not specifically treating these four differently. If anything, I wanted to use this opportunity to apply this system to other servants as well.

“W-Wait a moment, Rolando-sama! We are already receiving sufficient compensation with our current salary. Receiving more would be excessive.”

“But considering the burden Mocha will bring in the future, I think it’s necessary, don’t you think?”

“Well, that’s…”

Sobas tried to argue against my proposal, but I could understand what he meant and he couldn’t strongly deny it. From my perspective, based on my previous life’s sense, it was a legitimate right, so there was no problem. However, it seemed that in this world’s context, it might be considered receiving too much.

In the end, I pushed forward and established the bonus system on a trial basis, with the understanding that we would address any issues that arise.

Then, I introduced Mocha to the other servants and informed them that she would be newly employed. Let’s observe how things unfold for now.
