“Village in the Demon Realm and the First Time in Little Brother Mode”

“Gyaaahhhh!”

“Huh? What’s wrong?”

Just as we began riding on the back of the Manticore and started moving, Sara let out a mysterious scream. I quickly realized the reason and snapped my fingers to cast a Wind Barrier around her.

Indeed, with the Manticore running at a speed of over 100 kilometers per hour, being exposed to the elements on its back would generate quite a bit of wind pressure and air resistance. As a result, her face was getting distorted.

“Huff… Huff… Huff…”

“Are you okay?”

“I-I told you to stop! I thought I was going to die!!”

“Why are you bringing it up now? Weren’t you almost killed by the Ogre King earlier?”

“Well, yes… but that’s different! It’s totally different!”

What on earth was she saying? I couldn’t quite understand her intentions. Despite the fact that being threatened by the Ogre King and being in a life-threatening situation now were essentially the same, why was she so angry?

As we continued at high speed with Sara complaining in a cute pouty voice as background noise, we kept moving. After a while, we arrived near the village we were heading to.

To avoid causing a commotion, I was about to dismiss the Manticore and start walking, but Sara tugged at the hem of my clothes.

“What is it?”

“Um, Rolando-san, aren’t you human?”

“Why are you suddenly saying that?”

“But this is the Demon Realm, right? It feels unnatural to have a human here.”

“I see. You do have a point. Substitute Mirage.”

In response to Sara’s observation, I cast an illusion spell on myself. Almost immediately, my appearance began to change, my form shifting completely into that of a demon.

With two horns on my head, yellow eyes, and the distinctive tan skin of a demon, I looked eerily similar to Sara.

“Is this okay?”

“Puh—”

“Hey, I’m asking you if this is fine.”

“Huh? Uh, yes, I think it’s okay… okay… okay…”

“Why are you stuttering like that? Well, if you say it’s fine, let’s go with this. Also, from now on, let’s pretend to be siblings. We look alike enough, so it shouldn’t be a problem, right?”

“Yes, yes, you’re right. I think it’s fine… siblings… I’m your older sister, Rolando-san. Hehe…”

To prevent the others from realizing I was human, I decided to go along with the sibling setup. Sara agreed to it, but in the end, she muttered something with a mischievous smile. I didn’t quite catch what she said, but it didn’t matter.

Continuing on foot for a while, we soon spotted a village enclosed by a simple wooden fence. Two guards were stationed at the entrance, and as soon as they saw us, they raised their spears in a defensive stance.

“Hey, who are you?! Where did you come from?”

“Rolando-san.”

“Big sister, I’m scared…”

“Ugh…”

The guards, now more alert due to our presence, cautiously approached us with their spears at the ready. I pretended to be concerned for Sara and whispered in her ear, trying to ensure that the guards wouldn’t hear.

“Hey, what are you doing? We agreed to play the part of siblings, remember? It’s pointless if you don’t act like it.”

“I-I’m sorry. The overwhelming force was just too much, and my mind and knees gave way.”

“What nonsense are you talking about? Well, never mind. Let’s just say you’re too weak to move due to hunger, and stay still like that.”

“Yes…”

As we were having this exchange, the guards, suspicious of our behavior, approached us with their spears. I pretended to be worried about Sara and explained the situation.

“My big sister here hasn’t eaten for several days, and she’s unable to move. Please, can you help us?”

“I see. Wait here. I’ll fetch some food for you.”

(Alright, it seems to be working.)

The two guards believed my words and hurried to bring food from the village. After receiving the food, I offered it to Sara, who was still lying on the ground.

“Big sister, it’s food. Eat this.”

“Um, I’m not hungry.”

“Just shut up and put it in your mouth.” (Whispered)

“Mmmph!?”

I forcibly stuffed the food into Sara’s mouth. Despite claiming not to be hungry, she ate it quite eagerly. I was a bit bemused by her reaction, but I also took a small bite of the food to avoid suspicion. After a while, when our hunger was satisfied, the men approached us.

“Are you full now?”

“Thank you very much. I’m not sure how to properly express my gratitude.”

“Don’t worry about it. We help each other in times of need.”

Sara, now pretending to be my big sister and recovering from her (acting) hunger, thanked the men for the food. It was the proper response for her big sister’s act. Alright, with that settled, it was time for the next step!

“Big brother, thank you for helping me!”

“Oh… What an exquisite…”

“Is this the precious moment? Protecting that smile…”

“Huh?”

I was puzzled by the unexpected reaction. I had expected a different response. However, Sara suddenly made a strange noise, and with an inexplicable expression, she collapsed to the ground. To avoid drawing attention, I pretended to pat her head and lightly flicked her forehead, causing her to quiet down.

While waiting for Sara to wake up, I continued my act of pretending to worry about her and playing the role of her concerned little brother. In the midst of this, I heard a strange chant-like whisper, “Rolando-tan, so cute… Rolando-tan, so cute…” But when I lightly flicked her forehead, she fell silent.

We were allowed to wait until Sara woke up in a house that was arranged for us. However, as expected, the village had a different atmosphere compared to human villages.

Typically, human villages were characterized by wooden constructions using local resources. In the case of the demon villagers, they used a unique building material. It was reminiscent of concrete from my previous life, though the interior was not modern, the exterior looked somewhat like the walls of a high-rise apartment.

Most likely, they lacked suitable wood from the surrounding area for construction, so they used a mixture of soil and something else as a building material. Although it emitted faint magical energy, it was a speculative assumption, but could this be something like magical concrete made by mixing soil and magic?

Contemplating such trivial matters, I waited for Sara to wake up. After about twenty minutes, she finally opened her eyes.

“Mmm…”

“Are you awake?”

“Oh, it’s Rolando-tan~ I mean, big sister—it hurts!”

“Even though no one’s watching, there’s no point in pretending to be siblings. Just wake up properly.”

“I-I’m sorry.”

I gave a chop to Sara’s head, still half-asleep. Finally, she seemed to fully wake up and regain her senses. Well, at least we had managed to enter the village, so the situation wasn’t too bad. However, the next challenge was the meeting with the village chief.

Although I looked like a child, we were currently perceived as outsiders by the villagers. To gain their trust and explain our situation, it was necessary to convince the village chief.

However, given that I looked like a child, it would be difficult for me to explain the truth convincingly. Therefore, the responsibility of talking to the village chief would fall on Sara, who was older than me…

“Listen, after this, we’ll be meeting with the village chief, and you should answer like this: ‘We got lost during our journey and stumbled upon this village in a place where we had no idea where to go.’ Both of us are originally from Demon Lord’s capital, and we can adjust the story of you being abducted by a bird monster to make it seem like I got abducted. Just say you tried to help me and ended up clinging to the bird. That should make sense.”

“Wow, you’re amazing, Rolando-tan… I mean, Rolando-san. Let’s go with that!”

“…”

I felt a slight unease about whether she really understood what I said, but I had to trust her with this. Even if we couldn’t gain the village chief’s trust, we could simply leave immediately. There was no need to worry too much.

With such carefree thoughts, we headed toward the village chief’s house…

“You outsiders! Why have you come here?! If you intend to cause trouble in the village, you won’t get away with it!!”

Upon entering the village chief’s house, we were greeted by this aggressive and hostile attitude. It seemed that the village chief had a rather difficult personality.

However, as the saying goes, “Talking can solve things,” so if we explained our reasons properly, he should understand. Come on, Sara. Stick to the story we agreed upon with the village chief…

“Awa awa awa awa.”

“Enough of this nonsense! Why have you come to our village!?”

“…”

Sara was flustered and unable to respond to the village chief’s anger. Seeing her like that, my trust in her wavered. I had no choice but to take over and explain our situation to the village chief while still maintaining my little brother’s act.
