Chapter 237 - "Fighting off the Cliche"

“Welcome… This is quite the crowd.”

“Around twenty, you got space?”

“Please sit anywhere that is available.”

Finding a random eatery, I enter with the slaves and ask the owner if there’s vacant seating. It seems there were still plenty of open seats since it was before noon. While scattered, it looks like everyone can sit down somehow.

I take a seat at one of the table seats, with Machad sitting across from me. But the other slaves don’t sit and remain standing.

“What’s wrong? Not sitting?”

“Well, we are slaves, so…”

“I see. Boss, is it alright for the slaves to sit at the tables too?”

“Whether slave or whatever, you’re all customers to me. Sit wherever.”

“You heard him. Have a seat.”

At those words, they nervously take their seats. After I told the owner who came to take orders “One of everything”, the entrance suddenly got noisy.

“Hey hey, what’s this? Why’re the slave women sitting at the human tables?”

“Slaves should crawl on the floor where they belong!”

“Forget that, I’m just hungry!”

Looking towards the noise, there are three adventurer-looking men armed with weapons. One is a musclehead, another a beanpole, and the third a fatso with a distinctive way of speaking.

The musclehead grabs the hair of a slave sitting nearby and tries to forcibly pull her from her seat.

“Get lost. Slaves belong crawling on the floor.”

“I-it hurts! Stop!”

Sigh, With these kinds of arrogant fools who look down on others, they usually don’t learn until the same is done to them, but it seems these guys are prime examples.

While sighing internally, I approach the men, grab one’s arm, and say.

“That’s enough.”

“Who’re you? Stay out of it, kid.”

“Unfortunately I can’t do that. I bought these girls, so I can’t just stay quiet while you hurt my slave.”

After saying that, silence falls for a bit before he laughs mockingly. Then he glares at me with a hideous face.

“Like some snot-nosed brat could buy slaves! Beat it kid, go home and suck on mommy’s ti―Aghhhhhh”

“You say something? I’m Rank A, just so you know.”

Interrupting his verbal abuse, I twist the arm I’m grabbing. He cries out pathetically from the intense pain. But when I say I’m a Rank A adventurer, his expression changes.

“A snot-nosed brat like you, Rank A!? If you’re gonna lie, make it more believable!”

“This is my guild card. You can clearly see the A-rank written here.”

However, after trying to regain composure and bluster, the man’s expression turned anxious again when I presented my guild card. He seemed to be quite busy with various things.

Perhaps realizing he couldn’t back down, the man, upon inspecting the presented guild card, scoffed dismissively. It seems he believes it’s a fake.

“Such a thing is a forgery! I won’t tolerate an A-rank adventurer like you!!”

“What’ll you do then?”

“Come out front! I’ll teach you what a real adventurer is!”

And so, I end up in an impromptu street fight. Telling Machad “This’ll be quick, wait here”, I head outside.

Shortly after, less than ten seconds after Machad and the others settle in to quietly wait, the men from earlier come flying into the shop from outside, knocked down side by side on the floor. By me, of course.

There’s the slave whose hair the man grabbed earlier. She’s staring wide-eyed in surprise at this sudden turn of events. Grabbing the man’s hair to lift his face as he writhes on the floor, I state flatly.

“You laid your hands on my slave. Now apologize to her.”

“W-why should I ‘pologize to a slave… Guha, ugh, argh.”

As if interrupting his words showing no understanding of the situation, I continue bashing his face into the floor while grasping his hair. The floor gets stained with blood, but I pay it no mind.

After smashing his face many times, I lift it again. The man’s face is covered in blood and mangled, his originally ugly face now even more grotesque. I throw the exact same words at this man.

“Don’t make me repeat myself. Apologize to her.”

“Sowwy, vewy sowwy, pwease forgibe me.”

“What about you two? Apologize or get the same as him. Choose.”

「「W-we’re very sorry!」」

The other two, who had seen everything I had done to the man, seemed to be able to tell that I was serious and began apologizing to the female slave with great vigor.

Unsure how to respond to their excessive apology, the slave girl looks perplexed, but since these guys have now learned their place, I’ll pardon them for today.

“I’ll let you off with this much today, but next time…I’ll make you regret it so much you wish you were dead. Got it?”

Now completely unlike earlier, they nod so vigorously I think their heads might bobble off.

“Good.”

“Th-then we’ll be…”

“Hold it.”

“Eep!”

Just as they try to immediately leave after getting my forgiveness, I stop them. The man I injured likely won’t be able to adventure for a while. While it serves him right, it leaves a bad aftertaste if he can’t make a living and starves to death because of me.

“[Area-Wide Magic] – [High Heel]”

Using area magic, I heal the three men’s injuries. Before my eyes, the man’s face rapidly changes from grotesque back to his original ugly mug. The other two only had minor bruises and abrasions, and quickly returned to normal as well.

“This good enough. I’ve no more use for you. Hurry up and scram.”

“Y-yes sir!”

“Th-thank you kindly!”

“What?”

Once the treatment is over, they immediately flee from the shop as if bolting rabbits. The earlier commotion is gone and the original tranquility returns. When I think everyone will stay silent, one of the slaves breaks the silence.

“Daaamn! I’d heard the rumors, but you really are amazing, Hero who vanquished the demons!”

“No way he’d lose to the likes of them. Even him alone could beat such small fries.”

While Carifa sings my praises, looking closely, the battle slave’s eyes are shining. On the other hand, some slaves who seemed scared of the villainous adventurers earlier are curled up and withdrawn.

“Bit of excitement, but first thing’s first – let’s eat. Sorry for the trouble, think we can order some food?”

“O-oh, sure. Wait just a moment.”

After that, food keeps getting brought out, so for now we start eating. The slaves don’t start eating until I give permission, but once allowed, they dig in with incredible vigor.

Seems like the slaves besides Carifa were also quite hungry, making short work of the decently sized meals.

After finishing the meal and paying the owner, we left the shop.
