I plummeted toward the lake one hundred feet below with the weight of the raging waterfall behind me.

I landed in the water feet first with a splash.

The sound of rushing water ceased for a moment before resuming.

I surfaced to find my pursuers stunned speechless. I swam to shore and began to run once again.

My hair was soaked and my clothes were drenched. My muscles ached so much but I kept running, because my life was on the line here. Mom couldn't help me anymore, I was on my own. I just had to keep moving.

My village was situated in a large forest, only a dozen or so pathways in or out of it meaning there was a large amount of places to hide and not enough villagers to search every single spot. Once when a child went missing every adult in the village searched for them but they never found the child. It's nearly impossible to find one person in this dense forest.

After what felt like an eternity of running I began to feel ill. I suddenly collapsed on the ground. I was breathing ragged and I was sweating profusely. So I sat propped up on a tree.

"I'm so tired," I moaned. "Let me die already."

Wait, I'm running so I won't die. Get ahold of yourself Laura. First thing I do when I stop to catch my breath is mentally berate myself.
"I don't want to be a demon." I whispered.

If mom hadn't stepped in I would have died. She wanted me to live even if I was a demon. I wasn't going to die here.

I pushed myself off the tree and began walking deeper into the forest. The rain gradually began to stop and the sun began to rise. Was I really running the entire night? My legs felt like jelly but I kept walking. My clothes were soaked and ripped, my legs and feet hurt, my lungs felt like they were on fire and I had no clue if they were still chasing me. But I still kept going.

I was so tired. I somehow kept walking through the forest for an entire day without food or water. My body was burning up but I kept going.
At one point I was walking through this thicket of trees and brush. I tripped and fell face first into the wet ground. I was exhausted. I turned myself over to my back and just stared at the trees above with the orange light of the sunset peaking through the tree line over head.
I wanted to sleep but I was afraid of being found while I was vulnerable. So I stayed awake.

"I hope they get bored and give up." I muttered.

My stomach growled loudly. I hadn't eaten since yesterday, I was so dehydrated I thought I might faint at any moment.

I picked myself back up and began to walk again.

Sometime later I stumbled across a small stream. I drank my fill but my growling stomach reminded me that my body craved food. The forest wasn't rich with edible food like apples growing on trees and I had no clue which berries this deep in the forest were harmful or not.
I was beginning to panic. I had no idea how to survive in the wild. I had never done anything like this before. I had no idea what to do.
I began to walk around aimlessly looking for food until a shadow caught my eye. I looked up and saw a wolf sitting about ten feet away staring at me. I froze in place. Wolves were pack hunters so a wolf all by itself was a cause for concern.

Its fur was jet black and it's golden eyes were piercing.

The creature tilted its head and looked at me curiously. Its ears twitched and it took a step closer.

I slowly backed away.

The wolf lowered its hackles and licked its lips. It began to growl and stalked after me.

As I backed away I heard a growl from behind me. It was another wolf.

I was trapped.

The wolves moved in closer. Their tongues hanging out of their mouths. They were hungry.

I looked to my right and left and saw two more wolves. There were four encircling me. I was terrified. I just wanted to run but my legs wouldn't move.

The wolf in front of me pounced on me, opening its jaw trying to rip me to shreds.

I instinctively reached out my arm to block the wolf and it ended up biting onto my arm. The force from his charge was so great he knocked me to the ground. He continued to bite on my arm, his teeth sinking into my flesh.

I screamed in agony.

The other wolves began to close in. I tried to pull my arms free but the wolf wouldn't let go. He just kept forcefully moving from side to side like we were locked in a tug of war.

I was in so much pain.

I was screaming out in pain and shock. I could feel the blood pouring out of my arm. The weight of the wolf was too much for me to handle. It was like a bear trying to pin me down. All I could do was scream and beg for mercy.

The pain was excruciating.

It felt like my arm was on fire. I could hear the other wolves slowly closing in, I was being devoured by this pack of wolves. I was going to die.

I grit my teeth and in a last ditch effort I moved my arm forward and grabbed the wolf biting me with my right hand, I pulled it's neck to my mouth and bit down with all the force I could muster causing the wolf to let go immediately.

The wolf yelped in pain but I kept my jaw locked on his neck causing blood to gush all over my face. The other three wolves were stunned into motionlessness. The pained yelps of their friend echoed through the forest.

Eventually the pained cries stopped and the wolf fell limp. I got out from under the wolf and stood on wobbly feet. Staring at the other three wolves with a glare. They began to slink off into the forest.

I looked down at my arm in horror. Blood was everywhere, dripping from my wrist. It had bitten down hard enough to crack the bone.
All of a sudden the wound closed, as I stared in shock. I felt warmth return to my arm. I looked down and saw the skin begin to heal. Within seconds the pain had subsided and my arm was completely healed.

I was in complete shock. What was happening? How did I not bleed out?

I was absolutely dumbfounded, I couldn't believe what was happening. My mind was reeling.

I sat down and looked at the wolf corpse, strangely enough I felt no pity for it. It tried to kill me so I killed it. Dog eat dog world I guess. I thought to myself.

"Well now I have something to eat." I said to myself as I moved to eat the wolf. "Hold on. I have no clue how to skin a wolf."
