Originally there wasn’t a duty for anyone to accompany the knights to the gate as they left for battle. Since Amber had attempted to do so, Bella had to make sure that she could save face.

While Amber and Kalix were inside of the drill hall, Grace hatched a plan to kick Amber out of the picture and give the credit of seeing the knights off to Bella instead. With this, she would be able to engrave upon Amber’s mind exactly what her position within the castle hierarchy was.

Grace thought that Kalix would obviously send Amber back to her bedchamber. After all, Kalix was said to hate his new wife to no end.

Though Kalix didn’t have a good relationship with his stepmother, Bella, he never disobeyed her orders. He was the one that actually carried out all of Bella’s wishes.

Of course, the knights would complain… but there wouldn’t be a problem if the Duke himself allowed it.

Grace turned her nose up at the glares of the knights focused on her back. “Your Excellency?” Grace called out to Kalix once more. She had a faint smile on her lips.

“Ah, about seeing the knights leave for battle?” Kalix, who had been staring blankly into the air came back to his senses and turned his gaze to Grace.

Grace felt like something was strange. The mood surrounding Kalix was different than usual. As a man who was always sharply aware of his surroundings, Kalix had unexpectedly looked absentminded for a moment. “Yes. Your Excellency’s esteemed mother will leave as soon as her preparations are ready and…”

“No, there is no need.”

Grace lifted her head up immediately. “What do you mean?”

“I’m saying there’s no need to see the knights off for battle.”

“Ahh, omitting the send-off completely. That is the right decision, it is quite the cumbersome waste of time.”

“No, that’s not it.” Kalix shook his head, sighing like he was annoyed by everything. “I’m canceling the monster subjugation.”

At Kalix’s words, the knights immediately started whispering amongst themselves and Bella’s eyes widened in surprise.

“I will not be joining the subjugation. We will reform the troops with Sir Zeit as the leader who led the subjugation forces last year.”

“So that’s how it will be, I see.”

The knights all accepted Kalix’s decision without much resistance. Everyone already knew that the monster wave this time around was small.

Along with the blonde knight who sided with Amber, several of the knights nodded approvingly like this was the correct decision.

Amber made sure to memorize the faces of the blonde knight and the ones who nodded with him.

The only person who didn’t approve of Kalix’s decision was Grace. Her face was filled with bewilderment and she stood there stunned, before finally opening her mouth again. “Then I shall prepare the fireplace in your room, Your Excellency. And I will inform Bella of your decision and prepare some hot tea for…”

“No,” Kalix shook his head again before Grace could even finish her sentence. “There is no need to warm my room.”

“Excuse me? Then should I order the maids to prepare the study room instead?”

“You’ve been acting ridiculous for a while now, I’m going to be spending the night together with my wife.”

At that moment, silence fell onto the drill hall.

Grace’s face twisted with confusion as if she couldn’t understand a single word of what Kalix had just said. Never had she ever expected Kalix to enter the Duke’s bedchamber where Amber would be.

The knights stared at Kalix with wide eyes like they couldn’t believe it. Even the strict discipline instilled in them could not hold them back from showing their surprise.

The silence continued for quite a while as no one was able to easily escape the stunning revelation.

“Excuse me…” Amber finally opened her mouth. She couldn’t bear having the silence go on any longer. Her clear and distinct voice rang out in the midnight air, clearing the minds of the people in the vicinity. “Since it’s now morning, shall we all have breakfast instead? I have to take off my wedding dress as well.”

Amber was still wearing her extravagant, snow-white wedding dress.

Having gone back and forth in the drill hall, the ends of her skirt were completely caked in dirt and would need quite the effort to clean it off.
