“Is it me or the Fanged Whitemane Wolf looks somewhat smaller than the one before?” Flavia asked, scratching her cheek with one finger.

“Now that you’ve mentioned it, the one we fought last time could’ve been bigger,” Emilia said, not exactly sure if that was the case.

“That could be true. Look, this one has only two other Fanged Wolves with it,” Narias pointed out.

“Oh, yeah. There’s only two of them. Where are the other three?” Flavia was trying to see if there were any more adds around.

“The Fanged Whitemane Wolf can have two to five Fanged Wolves with it, you’ll never know how many it’ll be until you reach its lair,” Ileena explained.

“Right, I knew that,” Flavia threw one hand behind her head. “But that just makes things easier for us. Less monsters to worry about.”

“Ok, so the best course of action would be taking those two Fanged Wolves down first, but it’d be better to do it while they are away from the boss monster. The Fanged Whitemane Wolf will raise them back to their feet with its Enraged Howl when phase two starts,” Narias suggested. “However, we still need to organize our party and assign who will do what.”

“Growly and myself can take care of one Fanged Wolf easily, or even both of them,” Flavia volunteered.

“We need the monsters to be separated from each other, remember?” Ileena commented, adjusting her glasses.

“Ah, yes, yes, of course,” Flavia grinned, to which Ileena let out a deep sigh.

“Vivia and I could take out the other Fanged Wolf while you three take care of the boss monster,” Nicky suggested.

“No, can’t do that,” Growly objected.

“Huh? Why not, Growly?” Nicky was really surprised to hear him object all of a sudden.

“Growly is right, it won’t work,” Narias agreed with Growly, which also raised a few eyebrows from certain party members.

“You don’t think we’re strong enough? We’ve been all doing so well up to this point,” Vivia tried to make a sound argument.

“That’s not what they meant,” Ileena intervened. “We’ll be engaging the boss monster here. And what does the Magic Dungeon rule for fighting boss monsters say?”

“That’s right. There’s this rule that says we can’t have more than six people engage the boss monster,” Emilia remembered.

“Aaah… riiight… I forgot about that one, sorry,” Nicky placed one hand on her cheek.

“I’m glad you remembered about it. Grr… I was afraid I’ll have to intervene, or even forbid you to engage the Fanged Whitemane Wolf at all,” Instructor Dreknor joined in the conversation.

“That… would’ve been bad. Thank you for reminding us, Ileena,” Nicky felt a little embarrassed about it. “Narias and Growly too, thank you for not agreeing with my suggestion.”

“I’m glad we have you with us, partner,” Flavia grinned.

“I’m so sorry. I should’ve remembered it myself,” Vivia bowed down. “But that is a really scary rule. I wonder how did it come about?”

“Heh, I wish I knew myself. The dungeon boss monster’s fight rule is that you can’t have more than six people engage it at one single time or else the boss monster goes berserk and becomes immune to any attacks, which basically makes it unkillable. Nobody knows why or how it happens, but that’s probably how Magic Dungeon protects itself from being raided by a large group of people.” Instructor Dreknor shared what he knew.

“And that’s why the maximum number of people in the party are always six. Five students and a guide,” said Narias. “But then… why did you allow all seven of us go to the Magic Dungeon with you, Instructor Dreknor?”

“That’s true. And you’re right, I usually wouldn’t allow it. I suppose I wanted to see if you were being negligent regarding the boss fight. Of course, the question still remained if you be able to find the boss monster’s lair in the first place. I thought if you just run around the first floor of the Magic Dungeon, there’s no harm in letting all of you go. But then you basically took the shortest route to find the Fanged Whitemane Wolf, humph. Quite a slap on my face, really,” Ranga shook his head.

“But then if the limit is six people, why not have a party of six students instead of a five?” Flavia wondered.

“Are you seriously asking me that, Flavia?” The teacher furrowed his eyebrows, glaring at her.

“Eek… I was just…” Flavia didn’t know what to say.

“The reason to have a group of five students and a guide is because if something goes wrong during the boss fight, the teacher can jump in and help without having the boss monster go berserk,” Ileena explained.

“Right… ah… hah, hah…” Flavia tried to laugh about it, stepping back slowly in order to make some distance between herself and the teacher.

“Humph, grrr…” Ranga crossed his arms in front of him. “Anyway, now that we’re clear on that part, I’ll leave you to decide what you want to do.”

“Ok, so about our team’s composition,” Narias turned to the others again.

“I’m going,” Ileena stated confidently.

“Me too,” Flavia wasn’t about to sit the boss monster’s fight out.

“I go,” Growly wanted to fight the boss monster as well.

“Ok, so if I join, that will make four of us…” Narias was counting.

“How about I stay? I can watch and learn the fight from a distance,” Nicky was fine with staying put.

“Maybe I could stay behind as well? I haven’t fought the Fanged Whitemane Wolf before, and just like Nicky said, I could learn about the fight by observing,” Vivia wanted to stay behind as well.

“Ok, then that leaves…” Narias turned to Emilia.

“That’s ok. I was willing to join you anyway,” the Ice Princess smiled.

“Great. Now we just need to assign who does what,” said Narias.

“Growly and I will deal with the add on the right,” Flavia basically repeated what she said in the beginning.

“I can take care of the other Fanged Wolf,” Emilia volunteered.

“Good. Just make sure you draw the Fanged Wolves away from the boss monster. I’ll cast my Fire Wall spell to try and separate all three at the beginning of the fight,” Narias told everyone.

“I’ll kick it to the far end of the cave,” Flavia kicked the air with her foot for emphasis.

“I can simply freeze the monster in one spot,” Emilia had a more gracious way of dealing with the other Fanged Wolf.

“I’ll help Narias deal with the boss monster,” Ileena said.

“Ok, great. Just be careful everyone,” Narias turned to face the middle of the cave.

- ‘GROOOWL!’ – the Fanged Whitemane Wolf growled as soon as it saw the students running towards it.

The two Fanged Wolves sprung to their feet and instantly charged forward.

“Fire Wall!” As planned, Narias cast his spell to separate all three monsters.

“Lightning Blast!” Ileena assisted him by blocking the boss monster’s advance and letting the Fanged Wolf to its right run towards Growly and Flavia.

“Icicle Shot,” Emilia was quick to catch the first Fanged Wolf and freeze is with her spell.

“You’re not going anywhere!” Flavia faced the other Fanged Wolf head on. Or ‘leg on’ to be more precise. She kicked the monster on the side, hurling it towards the cave’s wall. Its body smashed into the wall, fell on the ground and laid there motionless.

While Flavia was dealing with the Fanged Wolf, Growly dashed directly at the boss monster. Narias and Ileena narrowed Fanged Whitemane Wolf’s running area, so it was easier for Growly to get a jump on it.

- ‘Smack!’ – surprisingly, or not, Growly landed a hit on it.

The boss monster got hit, but didn’t flinch. It instantly jumped back at Growly with its sharp claws.

“Wind Bullet!” But Narias was fast enough to land a hit on it with his spell as well, interrupting the monster’s claw swipe.

“Lightning Blast,” Ileena followed up with her spell, but unfortunately, the Fanged Whitemane Wolf jumped away this time, just barely avoiding getting blasted by her spell.

“Haaaya!” However, Flavia followed up with her own attack after Ileena.

- ‘Bam!’ – her kick landed directly at the monster’s neck.

The Fanged Whitemane Wolf wasn’t able to stay on its feet this time. Its body was thrown a few meters away from the impact.

“Hah, how did you like that?” Flavia was proud to deliver such powerful attack.

“Is everyone ok?” Narias wanted to make sure.

“Yes,” said Ileena.

“I’m ok,” Emilia added.

“All good,” Growly confirmed as well.

In all honesty, with how the fight was progressing, it was evident everyone was fine. It even looked like the students had an upper hand on the Fanged Whitemane Wolf.

“HOOOOWL!” a deafening howl echoed through the cave suddenly.

“Whaaat?! Already?” Flavia grabbed onto her ears.

No way. That’s too soon… isn’t it? Narias was thinking in his head, also trying to protect his ears.

“H… hey! The Fanged Wolves will…” Narias remembered about the boss monster raising its pack.

“Icicle Shot,” but Emilia was ready for it. The second Fanged Wolf was frozen and blasted to bits as soon as it got up.

Oh, she took care of it. Nice. Narias was pleasantly surprised Emilia was anticipating it.

In the meantime, Ileena was already trying to slow the Fanged Whitemane Wolf down. Actually, she was trying to hit it with her spells, but now the boss monster was much faster than before. It started hopping on and off the walls to avoid getting hit by her spells.

“Fire Wall!” Narias didn’t waste time and stopped the big, bad wolf from gaining speed by blocking its path.

However, even if Narias blocked the Fanged Whitemane Wolf’s path from one side, it turned around and ran to the opposite direction. Ileena cast her Lightning Blast spell again, but the boss monster leaped on the wall again to evade it. It instantly pushed itself away and dashed directly at Ileena.

“Huff!” – ‘Smack!’ – Unfortunately for the big, bad wolf, Growly had no intentions of letting it reach his teammate. Somehow the furry bear boy predicted that the Fanged Whitemane Wolf will try to get a jump on Ileena and timed his attack perfectly to intercept the monster. Growly wasn’t the only one to do so either.

- ‘Ka-baaam!’ – Flavia kicked the Fanged Whitemane Wolf from above with a somersault.

Her kick was powerful, but it wasn’t enough to throw the boss monster off its feet this time. The big beast tried to get back at the bunny girl with a bite. Fortunately, and probably thanks to the boss monster being shaken from the onslaught of previous attacks, Flavia had enough time to jump up in the air to avoid its attack. The Fanged Whitemane Wolf was about to jump at her again, however…

“Lightning… Crush!” Ileena wasn’t about to let the opportunity to land her most powerful attack on the boss monster slip away.

- ‘Slam! Crack!’ – the big wolf was caught by a huge lightning claw and smashed into the wall. It was hard to tell whether it was the rocks or the monster’s bones cracking after the impact.

“Woah,” Ileena’s attack made an impression on Flavia.

“I doubt my attack was enough to kill it. Be careful,” Ileena warned her.

“Hah, I’ll just finish it with this…“ Flavia dropped on the floor on all fours, about to use her special ability.

“Rays of Frost!” But Emilia beat her to it with her own most powerful spell.

“W… wha…” Flavia had to cover her eyes because of the blinding light from the shiny ice particles.

The air around Emilia was sparkling with a frosty glow, her hair floating in the air, also creating that magnificent afterglow. The ground under the Ice Princess’ feet was frozen solid as a result too.

Wow, that was some nice coordinated attack. Now I just need to… Huh? Narias was about to join in to cast his own spell when…

“HOOOOWL!” a loud howl echoed through the cave again, not exactly hurting anyone’s ears this time.

“Hah, this time I definitely will…” Flavia was getting ready to attack again.

“Stop. Don’t attack,” but Growly stopped her.

“Eh? Why?” Flavia was starting to get annoyed because of it.

“It’s over,” Growly added.

“What? Over?” Flavia gasped.

As surprising, or shocking, as it was, Growly was right. With its last howl, the Fanged Whitemane Wolf’s body dissipated into nothing, with its fur leaving a mild after image glow. When the dust and the mist from the vanishing monster cleared, a treasure chest was left in its place.

“It’s… dead already?” Narias couldn’t believe it.

“What? No way?” Flavia exclaimed in surprise, which also sounded like a disappointment.

“Good fight,” Growly was happy.

“Good fight? I didn’t even use my Anima-Transformation ability,” Flavia wanted to disagree.

“Eh?” Growly couldn’t understand why she was upset about it.

“Well, well, well. Now that was one good fight, if I ever saw one. Nicely done,” Instructor Dreknor was right there to congratulate the students. “You sure did a quick work of that Fanged Whitemane Wolf, little hatchlings. Or maybe I shouldn’t call you ‘little’ anymore? Ahaha.”

The big, black tiger beast-man teacher laughed out loud.

“Well done everyone,” Ileena felt like congratulating everyone as well.

“Thank you, Ileena,” Emilia smiled.

“Wow, you beat it so fast, I wasn’t even able to follow what was happening,” Vivia said, being super impressed.

“You’ve really mastered your Lightning Crush spell, Ileena. And your Rays of Frost spell was so pretty, Emilia,” Nicky added, clapping her hands. “By the way, that was a nice intercept to stop the Fanged Whitemane Wolf from getting close to Ileena, Growly.”

“Thanks,” Growly grinned, showing off his sharp teeth.

“No fair, humph…” Flavia crossed her arms in front of her, feeling left out. But then she noticed her boyfriend being lost in thoughts for some reason. “Hey, is something wrong, partner?”

“Oh, ah, no. I was just thinking…” Flavia’s question brought him back to reality.

“About what?” She was curious.

“About the Fanged Whitemane Wolf. It felt like… we killed it so easily…” Narias rubbed the back of his head.

“Now that’ve you mentioned it… Yeah, we definitely defeated it faster than last time… But it’s a good thing, isn’t it?” Flavia didn’t see anything wrong with it after giving it some thought.

“What are you two talking about?” Ileena was curious why the two of them were standing there talking.

“Oh, Narias here said that we defeated the boss monster too easily. But I don’t see any problem with it,” Flavia shrugged.

“That’s normal. Last time the Fanged Whitemane Wolf was much stronger, it had a pack of five adds with it. This one had only two, that’s why it was much weaker than the other one,” Ileena explained.

“Right, yeah. I just… didn’t expect for it to be that much weaker,” Narias added a mild laugh at the end.

“So, Belinda was right after all,” Ranga commented with a smirk after coming closer.

“What do you mean, coach?” Flavia was curious.

“You don’t really care about the loot that the boss monster dropped, do you? Hah,” the teacher laughed.

“Hey, that’s right. The loot!” Flavia jumped to her feet. “We need to check- Hey! You should’ve waited for me before opening it!”

Growly, Emilia, Nicky and Vivia were about to open the treasure chest that the Fanged Whitemane Wolf left behind.
