“Hey, hey, I want to see what’s inside the treasure chest as well,” Flavia almost tripped over rushing to where the treasure chest was.

“Oh, wow… What a big Magic Crystal,” Vivia gasped after Growly took it out of the chest.

“That’s what you call a drop from a boss monster,” Nicky commented with a bit of a laugh.

“It is almost as big as the last one we got,” Emilia added.

“Almost as big?” Vivia was puzzled to hear Emilia say that.

“Yes. Narias, Growly, Flavia and Emilia have defeated the Fanged Whitemane Wolf during their dungeon exploration test run. The Magic Crystal they got from it was bigger than this one,” Nicky told her.

“Oh, that’s right. But if that crystal was even bigger than this one, then…” Vivia stared at the Magic Crystal, which was in Emilia’s hands now.

“A big Magic Crystal, cool,” Flavia finally showed up. “What else is inside the chest?”

“A Bone Fang,” Growly leaned down to pick up another item from the chest.

“A bone… Woah! That’s a big fang,” Flavia was about to become disappointed after hearing what the item was, but was instantly impressed by the size of it. The sharp fang was well over one foot in length.

“A Bone Fang? Good quality too. Congratulations,” Ranga came over as well, with Narias and Ileena following him.

“Thanks coach,” Flavia was happy to hear him say that.

“But what is it good for? Will it have any value to anyone?” Nicky wondered.

“The items that can be found inside the Magic Dungeon are not the ordinary stuff you’d find outside. Just like the Fanged Whitemane Wolf’s Fur, which was put to a good use here, this Bone Fang might have some magic properties as well. It could be used to craft a curved battle knife of sorts, or be used as the sharp end of the spear even. A highly skilled crafter could probably find more uses for it,” Ranga shared his thoughts about the item.

“I see,” Nicky smiled.

“I would’ve never thought about it,” Vivia admitted.

“Is there anything else inside the treasure chest, Growly?” Emilia was curious.

“Nope,” the bear boy answered.

“Bummer,” Flavia dropped her head.

“Ahaha!” Which made Ranga laugh. “Aren’t you a greedy one?”

“Aah… hah…” Flavia rubbed the back of her head, trying to laugh about it.

“Right. Now that we’re done here, we should discuss what we want to do next,” Ileena wasn’t about to waste time doing nothing.

Oh, yeah. We’ve defeated the boss monster, but we haven’t explored all the dungeon yet. The first floor of the dungeon, that is. It’d be awesome if we could go to the second floor, but… Narias was debating in his head, not expecting they’d actually go to the second floor.

“We can still go around and explore the dungeon?” Nicky suggested.

“Hey, hey, how about we go to the second floor of the Magic Dungeon?” Flavia’s eyes sparkled, with her whole face lighting up.

“The second floor of the Magic Dungeon?” Vivia had a somewhat worried facial expression.

“Don’t be silly, Flavia. We won’t be allowed to do that,” Ileena made an argument.

“Why not? I’ll go ask the coach,” the bunny girl didn’t wait for anyone to say anything and went to talk to Instructor Dreknor, who was standing a short distance away. “Hey, coach, can we go to the second floor of the Magic Dungeon?”

“Flavia…” Ileena shook her head.

“Eh?” Ranga looked at Flavia with an intense stare in his eyes, but then grinned suspiciously. “Sure.”

“HUUUH? WHAT?!” Almost everyone was shocked to hear him agree. Except Growly and Flavia maybe.

“See? No problem,” Flavia was grinning wide.

“Excuse me, Instructor Dreknor. Are you really ok with us going to the second floor of the Magic Dungeon?” Ileena wanted to confirm.

“Why wouldn’t I be? It is your dungeon exploration. Besides, all of you had passed the dungeon exploration test with flying colors, and most of you had already killed the Fanged Whitemane Wolf once before, including you, Ileena. You’re not really new to the Magic Dungeon exploration,” Ranga praised the students. “However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any conditions involved.”

“Conditions?” Flavia had a shiver run down her spine.

“What are the conditions, Instructor Dreknor?” Ileena addressed him again.

“First of all, I can’t let you go to the second floor of the dungeon in your current state. You hadn’t had a proper rest since we entered the dungeon. I don’t know how much time had passed exactly, but it could be eight hours or more. The second floor of the Magic Dungeon is much more dangerous than the first floor. I can’t risk letting you go there tired,” Ranga Dreknor told the students.

“Right, so basically we need to have some rest before going there. Is that the condition, Instructor Dreknor?” Narias wanted to make sure he understood.

“Correct,” the teacher confirmed.

“Hey, why don’t we rest right here?” Flavia suggested.

“Here?” Ileena was more thinking out loud than asking a question. Other students weren’t sure what to think of it either.

“And that leads us to another issue. You need a proper rest, not just a short break to have something to drink or eat. Besides, we’re not at a Supply Point room here. The boss monster definitely won’t respawn until we leave the dungeon, but the same cannot be said for the normal monsters. And even if the monsters you have defeated won’t be appearing any time soon, there might be some stray ones that could find their way into this boss monster’s cave while you sleep. So, here you have it. I can let you go to the second floor of the Magic Dungeon, but you have to restore your strength first,” Ranga added to his explanation.

That’s strange. I thought the boss monster’s lair was off limits to any other normal monster, but if Instructor Dreknor says there’s a risk for monsters to enter here then it must be true. Narias agreed in his head.

“So, we need to have some rest first if we want to go to the second floor of the magic dungeon?” The way Nicky said it wasn’t clear if she was looking forward to it or the opposite.

“Need rest. Go to Supply Point room,” Growly suggested.

“Growly is right, there’s a Supply Point room not too far from here. Well, a little walk from here, but we could go there to have some rest there,” Flavia agreed with her teammate.

“When you say not far, how long it would take us to get there?” Ileena wanted to know.

“If I remember correctly,” Emilia put a finger to her cheek to have a think. “It took us about two or three hours to find the boss monster’s lair after leaving that Supply Point room last time. But we had to fight monsters on our way here.”

“Hey, fighting monsters shouldn’t be a problem for us,” Flavia stated confidently.

“That’s true, but two to three hours is a long time. Besides, we still need to check and assess how long our supplies will last us. Going back and forth might not be an option for us, really. We’d be better off exploring the first floor of the Magic Dungeon instead,” Ileena addressed an important point.

“Yeah, but…” Flavia knew Ileena was right, but she still wanted to go deeper into the dungeon.

“What if we set up a rotation to keep watch?” Narias suggested suddenly.

“To keep watch?” Nicky tilted her head to the side.

“Oh, you mean like the one we had set up last time?” Emilia remembered.

“That’s right. If we have someone awake and watch over everyone else, then it should be safe for us to sleep here, wouldn’t it, coach?” Flavia got her hopes up.

“Maybe… But what if the person falls asleep themselves? That would put everyone else in danger,” the big tiger-looking teacher wasn’t convinced.

“So then, we could have two people stay awake instead. We could… we could also set up some sort of trap at the entrance of this cave to alert us if something was coming here too.” Narias threw in additional suggestions.

“Hmph… You really want to go to the second floor, don’t you?” Ranga rubbed his chin with one hand.

“For sure,” Flavia exclaimed.

“Well… maybe we could do it this way,” Ranga Dreknor almost agreed.

“Yey!” Flavia jumped up.

“But…” the teacher pointed his finger at Narias. “You will have to take responsibility if something happens to anyone.”

“I will, sir,” Narias stated without hesitation.

Humph… He didn’t even flinch. I guess they are serious enough. Well, it’s not like there’s any harm to have them rest here. But I’m still surprised, I thought they would know. Hah, I’ll have a good laugh about it later. Ranga grinned to himself, which made the students wonder if it was a good or a bad sign.

“Ok, fine. And since I am part of this group, I’ll join you to keep watch as well. But I’ll be the last one to do it,” Instructor Dreknor finally gave in.

“I’ll keep watch first,” Growly instantly volunteered to be the first one.

“We need two people to keep watch, so then…” Narias was about to volunteer to keep watch together with Growly.

“How about I’ll be the second person to keep watch together with Growly?” But Nicky beat him to it.

“Oh, ok…” Narias had no reason to refuse her do that.

“Yo, how about you and I keep watch after them, partner?” Flavia was quick to have Narias as her buddy to keep watch next.

“Sure,” again, Narias had no reason to refuse.

“Wha… Wait, I wanted to…” Ileena wanted to interfere, but it was already too late.

“How about you and I be the third ones to keep watch, Ileena?” Emilia asked her with a smile.

“Ahem… Yes, of course,” Ileena said, adjusting her glasses.

“That leaves me last, but…” Vivia looked around, but there was no one else available.

“How about I keep you company? I am part of this group too and I said I will be the last one to keep watch, remember?” Ranga Dreknor told her.

“Oh, thank you, Instructor Dreknor.” Vivia was happy she won’t be left alone.

“Ok, now that we have the watch order agreed, let’s go set up some kind of trap. Can you help me, Growly?” Narias asked.

“Ok,” Growly agreed.

Narias took out some rope, some empty bottles, picked up some rocks and went to build some sort of trap. The goal of the trap was to make some noise instead of to stop or kill any monsters from entering the boss monster’s cave. It wasn’t too difficult to build a trap that makes some noise when someone steps on it inside the dungeon.

When they came back, the girls had already prepared the ‘bed’ they will sleep in. Well, Ileena, Flavia and Emilia that is. They have prepared a ‘bed’ for themselves plus one more person. That one more person was Narias, obviously. Narias wasn’t really surprised about it, even if he felt a little uncomfortable seeing three girls waiting for him in ‘bed’. Although, nobody else was surprised about it either.

Instructor Dreknor made himself comfortable some distance away from everyone, and apparently, he was already snoozing. Vivia tried to find a spot with the ground being more or less even to have a more comfortable sleep. She also had the blanket given by the academy, just like everyone else, which she placed on the ground before laying down herself.

And Narias? Well, Narias had a few heavenly laps to choose from. However, he ended up being the heavenly lap for his girlfriends instead. Ileena laid down from on side, Emilia curled close to him from the other side, and Flavia being Flavia, wasn’t shy about placing her head basically on Narias’s stomach. In other circumstances, Narias would’ve struggled to fall asleep while being hugged by three beautiful maidens, but everyone was tired enough, himself included, and had fallen asleep in no time.

As agreed, after Growly’s and Nicky’s turn, Narias and Flavia were keeping watch next, Ileena and Emilia were third in line, with Instructor Dreknor and Vivia being last. Although, Vivia was a little surprised when the teacher said she could go back to sleep. Ranga explained that he didn’t mind for Vivia to have some extra rest, which she was thankful for. Still, Vivia stayed up a little before taking another nap. It was difficult to ascertain how long each of them kept watch for. Some of them stayed up longer than the others probably, but nobody complained about it. The interesting thing was, Ranga Dreknor let the students sleep for as long as they wanted in the end.

“Good morning,” Nicky greeted Ileena after she woke up.

“Good… morning?” Ileena was about to greet her back, but was a little confused about the morning part.

“I don’t know if it’s morning, but we just woke up, so…” Nicky chuckled.

“Oh, yeah,” Ileena turned to find her glasses before turning back to face her friend again. “By the way, where is Narias… and Growly?”

“They just left to check if the trap is still intact. Apparently, it wasn’t triggered while we were asleep,” the tiny girl with fluffy pigtails answered.

“Ok. I guess we should wait for them to come back and then have something to eat,” Ileena was about to stand up, but then stopped. “You know, I would like to hear the details later.”

“Huh? The details?” Nicky made a confused facial expression.

“You won’t start denying it now, will you?” Ileena adjusted her glasses.

“Oh, I see. Well, it’s not like I was trying to hide it or anything,” Nicky covered her mouth with one hand, catching a mild blush.

“Is that so?” Ileena pierced her friend with a serious stare.

“Ok, maybe a little. But it’s nothing serious yet. Growly simply asked me out once or twice,” Nicky admitted.

“Nothing serious? After how close you two slept next to each other?” Ileena threw a frown at her friend even.

“But sleeping close to each other is so much warmer. You should know that better than anyone, Ileena,” Nicky chuckled.

“I…” Ileena’s face caught a bright red suddenly. “In any case, I’m happy for you, Nicky. And I’ll leave it to you and Growly to make it official.”

“Thank you, Ileena,” Nicky smiled happily.

Just when Ileena was about to pick up her blanket, she heard a loud scream all of a sudden.

“Whaaat!? How could you do that, coach!? You tricked us!” Flavia was yelling her lungs out.

“Huh?” Flavia’s loud scream got everyone’s attention. Narias and Growly ran back inside the cave to see what was happening.

“What’s wrong? Did something happen?” Narias was worried someone got hurt.

“AHAHAHA!” But all he heard was Instructor Dreknor laughing so hard the teacher was almost crying.

Huh? What’s going on? Narias couldn’t understand it.

“What’s happening?” Everyone gathered around.

“The coach is so mean,” Flavia was so upset, she looked too cute.

“What do you mean, Flavia?” asked Narias.

“The coach tricked us by saying this cave room wasn’t safe for us to sleep. Apparently, after you defeat the boss monster, the cave becomes as safe as any Supply Point room,” Flavia explained.

“You mean, this cave room is a Supply Point room?” Nicky wasn’t sure if she understood it correctly.

“Not exactly,” Instructor Dreknor said. “The thing is, the boss monster’s lair is off limits to all other monsters. That doesn’t make it a Supply Point room, but it is still safer than any other cave inside the dungeon. I thought you would know that.”

“But then what was the point of us keeping watch or setting the trap up?” Flavia was still upset.

“Your ignorance aside, I wanted to see how serious you are about going to the second floor of the Magic Dungeon. And even if the boss monster’s lair is off limits to normal monsters, you never know what might happen. It’s the Magic Dungeon we’re talking about here,” this time, Ranga pierced Flavia with a fierce look in his eyes.

“Eek… Yes… of course.” Flavia knew she couldn’t argue with the teacher about that.

Right. So, I was right after all. But since it was Instructor Dreknor, I didn’t want to say he was wrong. I guess the teacher was testing us. Narias realized Instructor Dreknor did it intentionally.

“Thank you, Instructor Dreknor,” Narias bowed down respectfully.

“Oh? Someone learnt something after all. You’re welcome. The good thing is, it made me feel assured all of you were taking it seriously.” Ranga grinned, showing off his sharp teeth. “Now that you’re well rested, we can go see what the second floor of the Magic Dungeon is all about. Unless you want to turn back and go home?”

“No way. Let’s go to the second floor,” Flavia’s words sounded almost like a protest.
