Chapter 8: Don’t cry!

In the end, Shen NingXin went to Qiu YiBai’s side with the drink in her hand.

There were many people in the Foreign Trade Department, so the table was extremely wide. And since she’s new, she sat near the outside.

This meant she was a long way away from Qiu YiBai.

At the moment, the atmosphere was high, and people had already toasted for several rounds, so the freshness had passed. Everyone was busy eating and chatting, so few people looked at her.

Except for that paper tiger Qiu YiBai who had been gazing at her for a while now.

Shen NingXin was stared at the entire way. She felt as though her steps were swaying without even drinking yet.

“President Qiu.”

She stood still in front of Qiu YiBai, her round apricot eyes curved into a crescent, and she smiled obediently. “I toast you a drink.”

As soon as her voice fell, Qiu YiBai immediately picked up her drink and clinked her glass with hers.

She used quite a lot of strength, almost knocking half of Shen NingXin’s drink out.

Was she angry?

Shen NingXin was taken aback, and fearing that Qiu YiBai felt uncomfortable, hurriedly opened her mouth to apologize, “I’m sorry, President Qiu, I didn’t mean to . . .”

Before she finished speaking, Qiu YiBai suddenly neared her silently.

As though whispering, she used a volume only the two of them could hear.

“Shen NingXin, are you not good at drinking?”

“Is that why you wouldn’t come and toast me?”

Her voice was very low, and the way she spoke made her tone half ridiculing, half alluring.

Shen NingXin was taken aback and quickly met her gaze.

Those dim pupils shrouded in a cage of alcohol were currently layered by flickering faint lights. It was a look so entrancing that anyone who saw her would quicken their breathing.

Shen NingXin was silent for a moment, unable to speak her thoughts.

But Qiu YiBai quickly continued the conversation again. She sat in the same place unhappily and opened her mouth to educate her, “Even if you’re not used to it, you still need to come and toast. Otherwise, not only would it be bad if other people saw that, but I would also get angry.”

“But I’ll remember that you have low alcohol tolerance,” she suddenly said after a moment.

“If you come to toast next time, we can also use that excuse.”

She’s taking care of her.

Upon realizing this, Shen NingXin’s cheeks became warm.

“You should drink less, too,” Shen NingXin paused, then lowered her voice to try and persuade Qiu YiBai, “I think you’re a little drunk right now . . .”

As soon as she said that, Qiu YiBai became displeased.

“You’re the one who’s drunk,” she said with extreme dissatisfaction and shook her head, “Even if everyone at this table was drunk, I still wouldn’t be.”

“You’re looking down on me too much.” Before Shen NingXin could speak, she waved her hand and shooed her away.

Immediately afterward, she poured herself another glass, and as she took a bite of food, she drank a little, then repeated the two steps.

“. . . . . .”

Look how quickly she ate her own words.

The meal lasted for nearly two hours, and everyone was a little drunk after it ended.

But among all, Qiu YiBai was the drunkest.

Shen NingXin cast her gaze over and saw that she was sitting at that same place, supporting her head and thinking about something. Her body swayed slightly from time to time.

“I’ll find a substitute driver for President Qiu.” Assistant Han sighed when she saw the situation. She took out her phone and said, “You guys should also hurry and find a substitute driver, or maybe call a family member to pick you up.”

“Alrighty.”

Everyone nodded and dizzily scrolled through their phones to make a call.

Assistant Han swiped through her phone for a while, then stood up and walked toward Qiu YiBai. “President Qiu, are you able to stand up?”

“Of course,” Qiu YiBai answered dazedly, her eyebrows furrowing.

“It’s good you can at least stand.” Assistant Han nodded and then informed her, “The driver will come soon, wait a bit more.”

“I probably won’t be able to go with you,” she added, “Something suddenly came up at home.”

Qiu YiBai seemed really drunk today.

After Assistant Han said those few words, she still felt uneasy. She then raised her head to see if anyone lived in the same direction as Qiu YiBai and could go with her.

Before she could speak, Shen NingXin suddenly leaned in.

“Assistant Han,” she said, her mouth curving and voice soft, “I’ve met President Qiu several times by chance near my house. I probably live near her.”

“If it seems appropriate, I can accompany President Qiu home.”

There was no other choice.

Shen NingXin had a smile on her face, but she was really panicking on the inside.

When the dinner was just about to end and everyone was packing up, Jiang Yue sent her the link asking her to vote again.

She also had nothing to do, so she clicked on it and voted. But just then, she noticed that Qiu YiBai posted another Weibo at some point.

The content was very simple, it contained just one sentence—

“My drinking tolerance seems to have decreased, I’m unhappy.”

Followed by a QAQ expression.

Shen NingXin was in a cold sweat.

She was genuinely afraid that she drank so much she’d start crying in front of everyone. Thus, after hearing Assistant Han’s words, she immediately went over and offered to take Qiu YiBai home.

“There’s no problem with that,” Assistant Han said, “It’ll just trouble you a bit.”

“No worries.” Shen NingXin smiled. “We’re going the same way, it’s not troubling.”

“That’s fine then,” Assistant Han responded with a nod.

Ever since they met at the bar, Assistant Han had a good impression of Shen NingXin, thinking that she’s a polite and discerning child.

Seeing her insist on going with Qiu YiBai, she put her heart at rest and left Qiu YiBai in her hands.

After a few casual words, Assistant Han left, and the substitute driver arrived soon afterward.

Shen NingXin said goodbye to the rest of her colleagues, helped Qiu YiBai up, and they began to walk out. Just as they arrived by the door, she heard Qiu YiBai sniffing.

She was surprised and immediately turned her head, only to find that Qiu YiBai’s expression was not right.

Her lips were slightly open, murmuring as though wanting to say something.

Oh no!

Shen NingXin was scared to death and quickly reached out to cover her mouth.

She then even started coaxing her like you would with a child. “Good girl, good girl . . .”

She was trying to persuade and coax her at the same time, and after a moment, Qiu YiBai really did stop moving.

Shen NingXin let out a breath of relief and quickly brought her into the car.

The driver who came was a young woman who had excellent driving skills. It didn’t take long before she brought the two of them to their destination.

Assistant Han already paid in advance, so after thanking the girl, Shen NingXin helped Qiu YiBai upstairs according to the address Assistant Han gave.

Although this person was drunk, Shen NingXin realized she at least still recognized her home. Just as she helped her enter the unit’s door, Qiu YiBai quickly broke free and strode forward without looking back.

Shen NingXin hurriedly followed after her, chasing all the way to the door of her house.

Qiu YiBai turned around and glanced at her, then lowered her head, and with a hand, she covered her other hand that was entering the password.

Quite aware of theft prevention . . .

Shen NingXin was speechless.

The door soon opened, and exquisite decorations soon appeared in their field of vision.

Shen NingXin raised her eyes and took a look. Before she could marvel at everything, Qiu YiBai already began walking toward the bedroom.

“. . . . . .”

Fearing that she would feel uncomfortable after drinking too much, Shen NingXin stood by the door and was silent for a moment. Finally, she raised her foot and entered, wanting to make a hangover soup for her before leaving.

As soon as she found the kitchen, before she had the chance to try and figure out where all the ingredients were, she saw Qiu YiBai walk into the bathroom with a change of clothes.

The sound of water lasted for more than ten minutes, after which the door opened and Qiu YiBai strode into her room again.

By the time Shen NingXin’s hangover soup was ready, she had already got into bed.

After seeing all that, Shen NingXin only wanted to cry.

Growing up, she’s never had to take care of anyone, not to mention someone so incomprehensible like Qiu YiBai. For a moment, she was dumbstruck, unsure of what to do as she stood still.

It took a while before she finally reacted, asking tentatively, “President Qiu, are you wearing clothes right now?”

It was as though the two were engaged in some incredible transaction.

As soon as her voice fell, Qiu YiBai blinked and for a few moments, tried making out what she heard. Finally, she stretched out a hand from underneath the blanket.

Good, she had sleeves on.

Shen NingXin let out a breath of relief, and then quickly walked over with the bowl of hangover soup.

“Are you able to drink it by yourself?” she asked, her tone carrying a softness she didn’t even notice.

Qiu YiBai nodded, then sat up and blew on the hangover soup before drinking.

She was still so self-reliant even when she was drunk, and she didn’t even cry or make trouble.

Shen NingXin was a little impressed. This crybaby was pretty good.

Seeing that she obediently laid back down on the bed again, Shen NingXin helped tuck her in, and then stood up and prepared to leave.

“Sleep now, President Qiu,” she said, saying goodbye to Qiu YiBai softly, “I’ll be going home now.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Qiu YiBai, who had just laid down, suddenly sat up again and reached out to tug her, as though not understanding what she said.

Her slender and soft fingers circled her wrist, and she just wouldn’t let go.

Shen NingXin didn’t know what was going on, so she repeated what she said. In return, she received Qiu YiBai’s further tightened grip and entanglement.

In fact, the independent appearance she held earlier quickly disappeared. Her small face was wrinkled, and suddenly, tears began falling.

Her body shook with each sniff, as though she was wronged.

“. . . . . .?!”

What’s going on!

Shen NingXin was scared to the point she couldn’t move. She was about to cry, too.

“President Qiu, don’t cry!” She hurriedly found a few tissues and wiped her tears, patting her back while comforting her for a long while.

Her voice gradually took on a more compromising tone. “I won’t leave then, alright? Don’t cry . . .”

Qiu YiBai raised a brow when she heard this.

As though saying, you really won’t leave?

“I won’t leave, I won’t leave,” Shen NingXin quickly said.

Qiu YiBai soon relaxed, wiped away her tears, and quickly stopped crying. She then moved over to the side of the bed, leaving space for Shen NingXin.

She then fumbled around for her phone, opened Weibo, and began tapping around.

She’s still posting on Weibo after getting this drunk.

Shen NingXin sighed, and as soon as she leaned in, she saw Qiu YiBai turn around, as though trying to guard against her.

She hid her phone carefully, not wanting to show her.

Do you think I can’t see it if you don’t let me look . . . ?

Shen NingXin was silent for a moment, and after Qiu YiBai finished typing, she opened Weibo and clicked on her dummy account.

This time, she didn’t see the familiar crying word or the little QAQ expression again. It turned out to be a smiling face.

There was also a sentence following it—

“I have a friend staying over for the first time.

I’m a little happy.”

She actually addressed her as a friend.

Shen NingXin raised her eyes and met Qiu YiBai’s gaze, but she couldn’t tell what exactly she was thinking.

All she saw was that her eyes seemed to light up, and then she reached out and patted the bed twice.

As though she was calling her, come up quickly!
