Chapter 9: So, they’re . . . height-increasing insoles

Seeing Qiu YiBai’s movements, Shen NingXin was dumbstruck.

She only noticed Qiu YiBai hiding her phone, and thought that the reason why she moved so far was to avoid her. She didn’t realize there was a deeper meaning to it!

Did she want her to lie down on the same bed?!

Are you kidding me!

“No way, no way.” She shook her head and stepped back instinctively. “It’s not appropriate to sleep on your bed my first time here.”

“Besides, I also move around in my sleep. It’ll be bad if I affect your sleep.”

“. . . . . .”

She said a lot, but they were all excuses.

For one, she was embarrassed, and two, she was afraid that when Qiu YiBai regained consciousness tomorrow morning, she’d kill her.

Shen NingXin’s desire of refusal was obvious.

Seeing that she didn’t come up after patting the bed so many times and then hearing those words, Qiu YiBai pondered for a while before reacting.

At first, she was taken aback, and then she slowly retracted her hand reluctantly. The corners of her lips lowered, her head hung down, and her eyes also reddened.

She put on an expression that said she could start crying at any time again.

Shen NingXin: “. . . . . .”

Normally, she always pretended to be so fierce, her body always covered with an air of seriousness, her eyes emotionless, and her tone cold. She was really unapproachable.

Despite knowing her true character, Shen NingXin still didn’t dare take a further look at her, so at this moment, it was the first time she ever looked for so long.

Qiu YiBai was indeed very beautiful.

Her eyelashes were very long, her skin as white as snow, and her jet-black hair was draped casually over her shoulders, a few strands slightly curled after been pressed on when she laid down previously.

Her cheeks were also slightly flushed from drunkenness. There was no presence of the superior figure she always assumed. All that was left was her most natural state as a crybaby.

She was . . . really hard to refuse.

Shen NingXin stared at her for a long time and in the end, she gave up.

If I die, then I die.

She sighed and finally thickened her skin and sat on the bed.

She kept her patience as she talked to the drunk Qiu YiBai, telling her to not roll to her side at night, to not cry and make trouble anymore, and that if she felt uncomfortable to immediately speak.

Qiu YiBai nodded in response. She looked very well-behaved and was abnormally easy to talk to.

Shen NingXin was relieved, then turned off the light and laid down stiffly, only daring to sleep on the edge of the bed.

As she formed her plan to slip away after Qiu YiBai fell asleep, she glanced up, and suddenly noticed Qiu YiBai sit up in the dark.

What was she going to do now?

Shen NingXin raised her eyes, and before she could speak, she saw her suddenly approach her side.

Qiu YiBai first measured the distance between her and the bed, then pulled her toward the center, and finally helped tuck her in.

Her lips curled up slightly, her tone light, and there was smile evident in her eyes.

She said, “Goodnight.”

“. . . . . .”

Shen NingXin unconsciously fell asleep at some point.

Normally, she never slept well at night and needed to hold onto a stuffed animal to fall asleep. This time, she had nothing, so she thought she couldn’t possibly fall asleep.

It turned out she thought wrong.

Perhaps it was because of the teeny bit of alcohol she consumed last time, or perhaps it was because of the exhaustion after a day’s work, or perhaps . . .

it was because of the addition of a steady breathing next to her.

She even had a rare, sweet dream.

After more than a week of work life, she quickly formed a biological clock. When it was almost seven o’ clock, she suddenly woke up.

She was panicking on the inside, then calmed her breathing a little. Just as she was about to open her eyes and get out of bed, the person next to her was a step above and sat up before her.

When she saw the sleeping person next to her, she was startled at first, then her breathing became heavier.

It seemed as though Qiu YiBai was even more flustered than she was.

At the moment, Shen NingXin couldn’t make out the situation exactly and didn’t know what to do. Out of fear, she didn’t dare move and simply laid there, continuing to pretend to sleep.

But her ears were wide open, awkwardly waiting for a chance to open her eyes.

Qiu YiBai was probably completely awake by this point. She was silent for a moment, then she made an unexpected move: she quietly and gently lifted the blanket up.

After finding out that both of them were wearing clothes, she finally let out a breath of relief. She then hurriedly got out of bed with her phone in her hand and zoomed into the bathroom.

Soon, the sound of a conversation came through from the bathroom.

Shen NingXin listened attentively and realized that she was calling Assistant Han, asking her about what happened last night.

“Why was it Shen NingXin that came back with me?” she asked, her tone deliberately low, as though in an attempt to cover up the panic in her heart, “What happened after I got drunk yesterday?”

“Nothing happened,” Assistant Han quickly answered, used to Qiu YiBai’s tone, “Something suddenly came up at home, and since Xiao1 Shen lived near you, I had her bring you home along the way.”

Bring her home along the way.

Qiu YiBai was silent for a moment, then poked her head out and scanned the bed.

Literally brought her to bed along the way.

“. . . . . .”

This was not her first time getting drunk. She had gotten drunk several times in the past when she was younger and more vigorous when discussing business with clients, but she always still had her consciousness and knew what to do and what not to do.

So whenever she got drunk, she usually chose to stay silent to not say the wrong thing.

It had always worked out.

Unlike yesterday.

Yesterday, she blacked out completely.

Her mind was in chaos. Qiu YiBai tried hard to think but still couldn’t remember anything useful in the end.

She hung up the phone and was very vexed. She didn’t hurry to go out, and instead, opened Weibo.

Immediately . . . she saw the Weibo she posted in her irrational state last night.

“I have a friend staying over for the first time.

I’m a little happy.”

Turns out she was the one who forced Shen NingXin to stay.

Qiu YiBai threw her phone onto the shelf beside her. She was silent for a moment before finally turning on the faucet.

She could not be any more embarrassed.

She thought, why not just drown herself here right now.

Shen NingXin laid in bed and waited for a long time, but Qiu YiBai still didn’t come out.

She did hear the sound of the water running, and it flowed for a long while.

What was she doing in there?

Shen NingXin hesitated for a while, and afraid that Qiu YiBai might do something, she finally sat up and walked into the bathroom tentatively.

As soon as she poked her head in, she saw Qiu YiBai had let out a sink full of water and lowered her head, deep in thought.

“. . . . . .”

Was this your unique way of washing your face?

Seeing that the water was about to overflow and that Qiu YiBai still made no movements, Shen NingXin had no choice but to step forward and turn it off.

Thinking that she might still not be fully awake, she subconsciously called out, “Qiu YiBai, what are doing?”

As soon as her voice fell, Qiu YiBai suddenly raised her head, and asked her in shock, “What did you call me?”

“President Qiu!” Shen NingXin immediately changed her words, “I called you President Qiu.”

“Good morning, President Qiu . . .”

She squeezed out a smile, trying to control her expression, pretending as though nothing happened last night.

Soon, Qiu YiBai glanced over, seemingly observing her expression.

Her lips slightly opened and unexpectedly, she didn’t scold her. “Shen NingXin, was it you who brought me home last night?”

“Yes,” Shen NingXin rapidly nodded, taking advantage of her question, “Assistant Han had something to do last night, so she had me bring you back.”

“And then?” Qiu YiBai asked as expected.

“We were both a little drunk,” Shen NingXin had to say, “and the sky was also completely dark. You were worried that it wasn’t safe for me to go home alone, so you had me stay for the night.”

To save her life, she didn’t tell the truth.

“That’s it?” Qiu YiBai hesitated, “Nothing else happened?”

“No.” Shen NingXin shook her head, pretending to be dumb. “I quickly fell asleep, and the next time I opened my eyes, I heard you, uh, washing your face.”

I definitely did not witness you crying, hah.

As soon as she finished speaking, Qiu YiBai seemed to finally relax.

She no longer looked at her with suspicion, but rather closed her eyes and stood upright, transforming into that indifferent look again.

She signaled with her finger, her eyes indifferent, and commanded, “Come in and wash up.”

“. . . . . .”

Using the new light pink toothbrush and small cup Qiu YiBai handed her, she brushed her teeth. Just as she stepped out of the bathroom, she discovered that Qiu YiBai was already fully dressed.

The pure black lady’s suit outlined her waist well. The white shirt inside had a button loose, revealing part of her white collarbone. Her legs were long and slender, and she released an aura that oozed capability. Her entire body was exhibited a cold temperament.

This was completely different from the crybaby last night.

Shen NingXin stared at her in a daze and couldn’t react. Seeing her beckon herself with the wave of her hand, she subconsciously walked over.

When she got close, she discovered a brand new dress laying on the bed. She glanced at it. It was Chanel.

“Change your clothes,” she said, and while waiting for Shen NingXin, she replied to a few emails. “It’s not good to go to the company with the smell of alcohol still on you.”

“The dress is newly bought. The size is on the smaller side and has not been worn yet. It should fit you just right.”

And it did indeed.

Shen NingXin thanked her and brought the clothes with her as she walked into the bathroom to change. She then suddenly thought that Qiu YiBai was indeed very tall. She was probably around 175 cm (~5’9″), almost a head taller than herself. Every time they talked to each other, she always unconsciously raised her head.

However, and maybe it was her imagination, Shen NingXin felt as though Qiu YiBai wasn’t as tall as usual today.

As she thought, Qiu YiBai started to urge her. “Are you done yet, Shen NingXin?”

“I’m done, I’m done,” Shen NingXin hurriedly responded to her. She adjusted her dress and hair, then reached out and opened the bathroom door.

Qiu YiBai was standing right outside at this moment, and after taking a full look at her body, said, “Not bad. It fits quite well.”

What a rare praise.

Shen NingXi felt a bit happy about it and followed behind Qiu YiBai to the door entrance to put on shoes.

As the President, Qiu YiBai’s shoes were all custom-made, the glossiness and texture impeccable.

Shen NingXin watched her take off her slippers, and as she sat on the nearby sofa, put her feet inside the shoes and put it on. Afterward, she stood up and suddenly became taller.

She returned to the height that was one head taller than her.

Shen NingXin was stunned and subconsciously looked down. The shoes didn’t have any heels.

So, they’re . . . .

“Height-increasing insoles?” Shen NingXin accidentally spoke out her thoughts.

As soon as her voice fell, Qiu YiBai was suddenly dumbstruck and quickly whipped her head around. Her ears that were hidden under her hair reddened a little.

But her tone was very fierce, and in a manner where she practically gritted out each character from the spaces between her teeth, she called out her name, “Shen NingXin. . .”

Just in case it’s unclear, “Xiao” means little and may be added in front of someone’s name when that person’s younger/of a lower position. It’s a less formal way of calling someone.
