Chapter 10: Only kids would like it

Qiu YiBai was definitely holding a grudge.

Shen NingXin thought as she stared at Qiu YiBai, who drove the car silently. She then let out a sigh.

She was acting like an immature child and wouldn’t speak to her anymore.

“. . . . . .”

It was still early out, so there were’t many pedestrians outside. Before long, they arrived at the company.

Remembering that Shen NingXin hadn’t eaten breakfast yet, Qiu YiBai didn’t stop immediately, but rather turned a corner before leaving her at the entrance of the cafeteria.

“You can go now,” she said, her voice hard, “There’s still food in the cafeteria. Eat first then go upstairs.”

“What about you, President Qiu?,” Shen NingXin immediately asked.

“I have something to do, so I won’t be coming with you.” After that, she started the car and soon disappeared from her vision like a plume of smoke.

She was the one who cried for her to not leave last night, and now she was still the one who ran away in a hurry.

Shen NingXin stared at the direction she disappeared in for a moment, then, without any other choice, entered the cafeteria.

In the past, she always came out late, where she either brought breakfast from home or bought it at some nearby shop. She had never went to the cafeteria before and thought that there probably wouldn’t be many people at this time.

But she was wrong. There was a surprising amount of people.

It was nearing the end of the month, so there were many things to be dealt with in the company. Every department was holding their breath, and whether it was concluding data or rushing to achieve the sales target, when there was too much work, it wasn’t uncommon for some to stay at the company overnight.

As she got her food, Shen NingXi looked around and suddenly felt a mix of emotions.

After that, for some reason, she remembered the scene where Qiu YiBai responded to emails this morning.

As the president of the Foreign Trade Department, she was probably even busier, having to go on endless business trips and endless meetings with customers.

But she was really only a girl that was a couple of years older than her. And was even a crybaby . . .

Shen NingXin shook her head, realizing she was thinking too much again.

As she thought, Meng Yao suddenly sent a message asking her if she wanted to hang out at the bar tonight.

Shen NingXin contemplated for a moment, then responded: “I think I’ll pass. I’m a bit busy these days.”

Meng Yao didn’t give up, and continued to persuade her: “You won’t go even if there were pretty ladies?”

Shen NingXin: “En, I’m not going.”

Not expecting to be refused so directly, Meng Yao was taken aback on the other side and quickly responded.

“Shen NingXin, as someone with a appearance complex, there’s something wrong with you these days . . .”

She was told there was something wrong with her again.

Shen NingXin’s hand quivered, her phone almost falling.

She gave a dry cough and quickly replied: “It’s because it’s the end of the month, so I’m busy with work.”

After that, without waiting for Meng Yao to say anything else, she quickly put her phone back into her pocket.

For some reason, she suddenly felt a bit guilty.

After eating, Shen NingXin rode the elevator up and happened to run into Manager Liu inside.

She immediately smiled and greeted her politely, “Good morning, Manager Liu.”

“En.” Manager Liu nodded and glanced down at her dress subconsciously. She suddenly had a surprised look on her face, then unprecedentedly also greeted her, “Morning.”

Shen NingXin quickly understood the reason but just smiled and didn’t say anything else.

The elevator gradually went up and stopped at their floor, the door slowly opening. The two got off the elevator and entered the office one after another.

As soon as they entered, Manager Liu seemed to suddenly remember something and said, “Shen NingXin, are the things left on your computer still there?”

She was referring to the folder the previous owner left on the computer.

Shen NingXin nodded. “Yes.”

“That’s good,” Manager Liu said, “Recently, the bank wants to check the invoices, bills, and related documents left from the shipments from the first half of this year, so a file needs to be organized.”

“Xiao Wang resigned just before you came, so he probably didn’t have a chance to organize it. Please help sort one out, then. Ask Zhao Jie if you don’t understand anything.”

After speaking, Manager Liu turned and left before she could respond.

There was no chance for her to say anything.

Shen NingXin sighed and returned to her work station resignedly.

She took advantage of the time for the computer to turn on and got a cup of coffee. After she came back, she opened up the folder containing the records and looked up shipment information from the first half of the year.

There was surprising amount. She glanced through it roughly, and there were at least . . . 200 bills.

Didn’t they say the Foreign Trade Department had less work? Why was there so much here!

Shen NingXin was stunned and hurriedly and opened the file to check the reason. She then found that although this Xiao Wang had many orders, the amount of tons in each order was small. They were around 20 and 40, where ten bills would amount to less than another’s one bill.

Ah, it was a big project . . .

Shen NingXin felt helpless. She took a sip of coffee to relieve her shock, then immediately started the work at hand.

Each country had different requirements for the delivery of goods, and the style of the bill of lading also varied drastically. Shen NingXin first classified them one by one, then found the PDF version of the summary of the documents, disassembled them, and extracted what was needed.

The morning passed, but she only got through less than a quarter of it.

She was tired.

It seemed like she needed to work overtime tonight.

After clocking out, Shen NingXin slumped in her chair and couldn’t muster any energy to move.

Those who had finished organizing everything long ago went to eat lunch together, and the office quickly emptied out, leaving only a few people left.

Shen NingXin didn’t want to eat or move but rather took a nap as she hugged onto her small bag. She finally woke up as break ended.

When she opened her eyes, two sandwiches suddenly appeared on the table.

It seemed like they were just placed here as they still felt warm. There were plenty of ingredients inside.

Shen NingXin was taken aback when she saw this and quickly turned to ask Pei Qing behind her, wanting to know if anybody came by while she slept.

“I didn’t see.” Pei Qing shook her head, her way of speaking odd and mocking as usual. “It’s not like I have a crush on you, why would I keep staring at you for no reason.”

Shen NingXin didn’t want to bother with her comment and asked again, “But I don’t know who put two sandwiches on my desk.”

“Oh.” Pei Qing glanced at her. “Then maybe the person who gave you the sandwich has a crush on you.”

Shen Ningxin: “. . . . . .”

Seeing that no useful information would come out of her, Shen NingXin retracted her gaze and looked around, trying to see just who gave her the sandwiches.

As soon as she looked up, she suddenly made eye contact with a scorching gaze.

Qiu YiBai was staring at her again.

Shen NingXin didn’t know whether to cry or laugh.

She found out that their President Qiu seriously held grudges. Earlier this morning when she got too tired of organizing documents, she used the time of waiting for coffee to check Weibo. Just then, she found out that the post Qiu YiBai made about being happy that a friend was staying over was gone.

It was replaced by another Weibo—

“Shen NingXin discovered my secret, I’m angry QAQ!!!”

With those three exclamation marks at the end, it was as though she was hating her to death.

No wonder she continued to feel a strong gaze when she was sorting out the files. It was probably this prideful crybaby alright.

Just like a child.

Shen NingXin shook her head, and just as she was about to withdraw her gaze, she cause a glimpse of something by Qiu YiBai’s hand.

Sitting on her table were two sandwiches . . . with the same packaging.

When she realized this, Shen NingXin’s heart suddenly warmed up.

Turns out it was this crybaby who gave them to her.

She’ll go and thank her later.

By the time work almost ended, Shen NingXin had only sorted out half of the documents.

Manager Liu needed them organized urgently and may ask for it at any time. Shen NingXin was also never a procrastinator, so it’s better to finish it earlier than later.

So she decided to work overtime tonight.

Soon, there was no one else in the office.

Shen NingXin got up to get a cup of coffee, and when she looked up, she saw Qiu YiBai, who was still sitting behind the glass door and typing on the keyboard. It was surprisingly quiet all over.

She suddenly realized that after work ended, it was Qiu YiBai who always stayed the longest afterward.

Seeing that she was very busy, Shen NingXin didn’t bother her, and as though accepting her fate, sat back down, moved her shoulders, and began working again.

After some time, she suddenly got a WeChat notification.

The noise frightened Shen NingXin, and she slowly opened WeChat, discovering that it was the nearby Qiu YiBai who sent her a message: “Shen NingXin, when are you going to leave?”

Shen NingXin: “Ah?”

Qiu YiBai: “As long as you don’t leave, the lights need to stay on. What a waste of electricity.”

So, she was complaining that she used up too much energy.

Shen NingXin forced a smile and responded: “I haven’t finished work yet, so I can’t leave.”

What can she do, it’s not like she wants to work overtime either.

After she sent that message, there were no more WeChat notifications.

Instead, Qiu YiBai’s door slowly opened, and then she heard footsteps getting closer.

When she raised her eyes, Qiu YiBai was already standing in front of her. She then threw a USB drive to her. “Copy half of the documents you have left for me.”

With her tone blunt and her face hard, she practically wrote the word “cold-blooded” on her face.

But the meaning behind her words was that she wanted to help.

Shen NingXin was surprised, then shook her head, feeling a little embarrassed. “It’s okay, I can do it myself, President Qiu, you . . .”

Before she could finish her sentence, Qiu YiBai turned around and left.

After a moment, Shen NingXin picked up the USB drive, the corners of her lips raising subconsciously.

There were still a lot of files left, so it took several minutes to copy just half of it. Shen NingXin unplugged the USB drive and brought it to Qiu YiBai’s office. She then saw that there were still unprocessed files on her computer screen.

She didn’t even finish her work, yet she was insistent on helping her.

Shen NingXin was in a daze. Before she could speak, the USB drive was quickly taken away. After a few minutes, the file transfer was complete.

Remembering what happened during the day, Shen NingXin hurriedly thanked her, sincerely expressing her gratitude for the lunch she brought.

“Oh.” Qiu YiBai had no expression on her face as she opened a small drawer and put the USB drive in.

Seeing that her anger hadn’t cooled down yet, Shen NingXin wanted to say something to ease up their relationship. As the drawer opened, though, she caught a glimpse of a fist-sized puppy trinket inside.

It was the same character as the one hanging off of her bag.

It seemed like she really like it. Not only did she make it her Weibo profile picture, she even bought a small trinket to keep.

“President Qiu, you also like this puppy ah,” she smiled and started to chat with Qiu YiBai, “I like it too, I have one on . . .”

Before she finished speaking, she saw Qiu YiBai close the drawer instantly.

She raised her face, and as though righting some wrong, told her, “Who said I liked this? I bought this for my little nephew.”

“How could I like such a childish thing, what a joke . . .”

As though afraid Shen NingXin couldn’t hear, she added, “Only kids would like it.”

Shen NingXin: “. . . . . .”

There she goes again.

There’s no way to continue this conversation.
