Chapter 11: Amazing, right?

Thank goodness for Qiu YiBai’s help.

At nearly midnight, all the files on the computer were finally sorted out. Shen NingXin organized each one into their category, compressed the files, and emailed it to Manager Liu.

Finally, it’s over!

She couldn’t help but sigh, opening her arms and stretching her limbs out.

At this moment, it was completely dark out. Shen NingXin stood up, walked to the window, and looked down. There was no one on the streets.

Only a few lonely street lights were still on. It was a bleak and eerie scene, accompanied only by the sounds of a few insects chirping every so often, their bodies flickering under the streetlights.

All of a sudden, she thought of the horror movie she watched a couple of days ago with Meng Yao and the others, and immediately the hair on her skin stood up.

As she thought, she turned her head and was suddenly met with a close-up face.

“Ah!” Shen NingXin was startled, almost jumping up. “President Qiu, what are you doing here?!”

“What are you making a fuss about?” Qiu YiBai glanced at her, then walked to the window and looked down like Shen NingXin did before. “Only you can look and I can’t? Is this company yours?”

“No . . .” Fearing she’d hold another grudge, Shen NingXin quickly shook her head, her tone compliant, “You look, you look.”

Qiu YiBai ignored her, let out a cold “Hmph”, and put her hands behind her back.

She looked like a veteran leader making surprise inspections.

Shen NingXin sighed, and silently returned to her workstation and shut down the computer.

As she thought about how she was supposed to go home, Qiu YiBai had already returned from the window.

“Don’t go home later,” she said, picking up the documents Pei Qing made earlier today and flipping through them. She soon furrowed her brows, pursed her lips, and threw them aside. “It’s too dark out now. It not safe to go back, so just stay at the company for the night.”

She’s actually thinking about her.

Shen NingXin’s heart warmed, and she agreed after some thought. Instead of going back and forth, it’s better to listen to Qiu YiBai’s words and sleep here, so she nodded gently and replied a yes.

As soon as her voice fell, Qiu YiBai signaled with her fingers and said, “Go to the lounge.”

After speaking, she turned around and walked away speedily.

Shen NingXin hurried to keep up.

After turning a few corners behind Qiu YiBai, a small room soon appeared before Shen NingXin.

Upon opening the door, she saw a simple table and bunk bed inside, along with a one-person tall closet beside it.

Qiu YiBai opened the closet, took down the blanket from the top shelf, and threw it to Shen NingXin. “The bedsheet and blanket are both clean. An auntie comes by and cleans and replaces them every day, so you can directly use them.”

“Okay.” Shen NingXin nodded quickly, took the blanket and hugged it tightly, and then followed up with a question, “President Qiu, are you used to sleeping on the top or bottom?”

As soon as she finished speaking, she suddenly felt like there was something odd, as though the two of them were engaged in some strange transaction again.

Thankfully, Qiu YiBai didn’t think any weird and simply said, “Don’t worry about me, just choose what you prefer.”

Shen NingXin was a bit moved by her words and thanked her sincerely.

“Then I’ll choose this one,” she said, pointing at the bottom bunk, and she swiftly spread the blanket over. “I’m done. President Qiu, you should hurry up, too.”

“Hurry up what?” Qiu YiBai quickly asked back.

Shen NingXin froze for a moment. “Hurry up and spread the blanket . . .”

As soon as her voice fell, Qiu YiBai’s eyes suddenly took on a smiling yet not smiling look. She lightly coughed and then said, “I won’t be sleeping here.”

“Ah?” Shen NingXin reacted, thinking that she might be going home, and quickly opened her mouth to advise her, “But it’s so late now, it’s not safe . . .”

Before she could even say the word safe, she suddenly saw Qiu YiBai pull out a set of keys from her briefcase.

The keys rang softly, exhibiting a strong smell of wealth.

“Who said I was going back to that house,” she said, her tone caring an air of pride that was not easily detected, “I still have a house across from here.”

“. . . . . .”

The atmosphere was silent for a moment before Shen NingXin finally nodded gently. “Oh.”

It had been a while since Qiu YiBai left.

Shen NingXin opened Weibo, and surely enough, that person had posted a new update. She even added a picture for the first time—

“Shen NingXin’s expression just now looked like A Ji hahaha!” [A-Ji-Dumbstruck.jpg]

A Ji was the puppy hanging off of Shen NingXin’s bag.

Shen NingXin was silent for a moment, then couldn’t help but laugh.

She soon figured out that this was Qiu YiBai’s retaliation against her discovering her height-increasing insoles.

Too lazy to deal with such a grudge-holding crybaby, Shen NingXin sighed, picked up the portable toothbrush and toothpaste, and went to the bathroom to wash up. She then quickly returned to lie on the bed.

The blanket smelled nice. It had a faint lavender scent, making people feel at ease.

Her thoughts gradually drifted away, and once again, she thought of Qiu YiBai’s face.

Truthfully, from the bottom of her heart, she was indeed very grateful to Qiu YiBai. She brought her food, helped finish her remaining work, and worrying that it wasn’t safe for her to go home, even found a place for her to stay overnight.

She was definitely a boss that treated her subordinates well.

In fact, she had witnessed many moments where Qiu YiBai was secretly considerate toward other colleagues, whether she did it intentionally or not.

Although she was a prideful little crybaby at heart and always pretended to be so fierce for some unknown reason, none of it prevented her from being a warm-hearted person.

She should buy something to thank her tomorrow.

Thinking this way, Shen NingXin hugged her small bag and soon fell asleep.

“. . . . . .”

The next day, the whole morning was spent in busyness again.

Near noon, Meng Yao sent a message saying that she happened to be running an errand near her company and was now almost done, so she asked if she wanted to have a meal together.

Since they hadn’t seen each other for a few days, and she herself also had the plan of buying something, Shen NingXin quickly agreed.

After lunch, the two began walking around the shopping district.

“Why did you suddenly want to go shopping?” Meng Yao asked as she tapped on her phone, “Aren’t you busy today?”

“It’s been okay.” Shen NingXin nodded and took her into a toy store. “The main reason is to buy a thank you gift for one of my colleagues. They helped me out a lot, so I should express my gratitude in some way.”

“That’s true.” Meng Yao nodded and put her phone back into her pocket after sending the last message. When she looked up again, she was stunned. “Why a toy store?! Who are you buying for?”

“Erm,” Shen NingXin pondered for a moment and finally said, “My boss’s little nephew . . .”

Actually, it was for her childish little crybaby of a boss.

“Why your boss’s nephew.” Meng Yao instantly became curious after hearing that. “Shen NingXin, you’re pretty popular, ah. You even became familiar with your boss’s nephew.”

“It’s kinda complicated to explain.” Shen NingXin couldn’t help but smile. “Hurry up and come in and help me choose something.”

“Alrighty then,” Meng Yao responded with a nod, then quickly followed her into the store.

“. . . . . .”

Twenty minutes later, Shen NingXin appeared in the office with a pocket of A Ji’s.

Before, she only knew that such a character existed, and thinking that it was cute, she hung it on her bag, but she never cared to learn more about it.

It wasn’t until entering the toy store today that she finally gained some insight.

Turns out there were many different styles of A Ji, like Christmas models, picnic models, dance stage models . . .

Both Shen NingXin and Meng Yao got dizzy looking at all the choices before them. They looked for the best-looking ones, and only after paying did they realize the bag was about to overfill.

Qiu YiBai would be happy with all of these A Ji’s she was going to give her, right?

But of course, she was going to say that they were for her nephew.

As Shen NingXin thought, she knocked on Qiu YiBai’s office door.

As soon as she walked in, she saw her replying to an email with an unfriendly expression, her entire face screaming “I am very mad right now, this cheating piece of customer is so annoying!”

It wasn’t until she saw Shen NingXin did she ease up.

But her eyebrows were still furrowed, and she asked her fiercely, “What are you doing in here?”

Shen NingXin placed the bag she was carrying on Qiu YiBai’s table in response. “This is . . . I bought this for you, to give to your nephew.”

She added, “Thank you for all your help last night.”

As soon as her voice fell, Qiu YiBai raised her eyes and glanced at the bag. She was taken aback at first, then the irritability under her eyes quickly melted away, and the corners of her mouth lifted as though she was about to smile.

But perhaps realizing that she was losing her composure, she didn’t smile in the end, but she spoke in a tone that was much gentler than before, “Just leave it here then, I’ll give it to him later.”

As though not accustomed to receiving gifts from others, she was silent for a long time before she remembered to add a thank you.

Maybe it was an effect caused by the light, but Shen NingXin caught a glimpse of her ears reddening.

Soon, this matter was quickly forgotten.

It was nearing the end of the month, so Zhao Jie had more work than usual, and naturally, the work handed to Shen NingXin increased. As soon as she finished a form, Zhao Jie immediately gave her a contract, asking her to give it to President Qiu for a signature.

Shen NingXin accepted it and took the contract to Qiu YiBai’s office. The moment she walked in, she saw that Qiu YiBai had taken all the puppies out and was neatly organizing them on the table.

She couldn’t help but be surprised and immediately asked, “President Qiu, what are you doing right now?”

“Ah?” Not having realized that Shen NingXin came in, Qiu YiBai was first stunned and took a long while before finally finding a reasonable excuse. “I’m taking them all out to take a photo and show my nephew first. To see if he likes them.”

“I see.” Shen NingXin nodded. “But . . .”

“What but!” Qiu YiBai said aggressively, “If you have something to say, say it now, I’m busy.”

Alrighty then.

Shen NingXin didn’t say anything else and hurriedly took out the contract for her to sign.

She still felt as though there was something wrong, so after returning to her workstation, she took a look at Weibo.

And just as she thought, Qiu YiBai made another post. Like last night, it contained a single sentence and a picture, the latter a photo of the puppies Shen NingXin bought her.

The sentence above said—

“Amazing, right? It’s a row of puppies lining up!”

What was this!

Shen NingXin paused, then suddenly laughed, her body shaking uncontrollably, making even the coffee on the table oscillate back and forth.

It was amazing, indeed. Not only the row of puppies.

President Qiu, you’re pretty amazing, too.

“. . . . . .”
