Save the world?

"Yes.  I'm not sure what form it will take, but several years from now, someone will emerge to destroy the new world.  As you are my champion, so too is there a counterpart, another deity, with another champion, this one set to destroy the world."

And I'm supposed to stop them?

"Pretty much, yeah."

Sounds like fun.  They'll never know what hit them.

"Umm.."

.."You need to know this.  The other champion will be some kind of terrifying monster, human or otherwise, with a broken ability, that will be coming after you personally with some kind of ridiculous or absurd power.  You need to be ready for that."

Yeah, but I don't trust your opinion on that.  You said the world was all numbers, right?  And you think that five isn't a big number.  So I don't trust your opinion on that.

"Five.."  The human stands up out of his chair.  "Five isn't a big number.  Everyone else gets at least twenty-five.  That's.."

Plus you screwed up and lost your chosen champion.  How can I trust someone that incompetent?

The conversation degenerates after that.

"All right", says the deity, having mentally written off this world already.  "Well, at least you should be entertaining." mentally adding 'as long as I'm not the one who has to deal with you.'  "Anyway, you don't need to think at people once you're down there, your new body should be able to talk and understand the language."

This time it wasn't a lamppost.

A bird, small, black, but with a blue crest appeared on top of a wooden gate.  Simple in construction, but finely made, well sanded, well carved, well shaped.  Not strong.  The village seems peaceful, with only a simple gate protecting it from the outside, along with a basic wall of wooden logs.

Inside, there are a good hundred or so buildings, most low one or two story wooden buildings.  There are several larger ones in the middle of town, including some with lovely tiles instead of thatch.  Things are not crowded, but there are dozens of people out and about, going about their business on this calm day.

Outside the walls are woods.  Thin in places, with meadows or fields, but it gets much thicker and denser in higher places.  No humans are outside, nor are any other animals.  Just trees, grass, meadow and fields.  In the distance a faint strip of smoke streams upwards across the sky.

All and all, it's a lovely, breezy world, calm and easy under the bright sunlight.  And one with a new inhabitant.  One who should not be able to change the situation, but...  well, his effects on the world will have to be seen.

Huh.  That looks tasty.
