Qin Fei’s usual commands naturally can’t be this simple and violent.

However, this time, it’s really just that simple and violent.

As for the reason, pg‘s members with the inclusion of Fang Luofan are all clear of it in their hearts — It’s because this is a practice match.

The purpose of a practice match is to raise the team’s overall ability on a whole, and the simplest, most direct way to do that is naturally to troubleshoot problems. Therefore, the process outweighs the result.

Perhaps they might really be able to trounce Ane under Qin Fei’s lead. However, whether it’s the teammates who are brushing shoulders in battle with Jing Yu, or Fang Luofan who had been watching this game over their backs, they all found a dormant potential lying in Jing Yu.

It’s a type of potential that might strengthen the entire team.

Jing Yu has a jungle awareness that surpasses Qin Fei’s by far. Yet, it’s only because he’s not used to pg‘s tempo, that’s why he was unable to lead properly.

In fact, his commands are not bad at all. It’s just — they’re not suitable for pg.

Serving as a fast-paced and aggressive team, you ask them to retreat? Kite? These tactics totally don’t exist in their books.

That’s why, the biggest problem Jing Yu faces now is – He doesn’t know how to sync up with the team.

Qin Fei gives this kind of simple yet aggressive command for the team to “take liberty”, precisely because he wants to let Jing Yu thoroughly get a good feel of pg‘s tempo and adjust his own accordingly.

He believes Jing Yu will be able to accomplish this within a very short space of time. Otherwise, Qin Fei’s opinion of him also wouldn’t have made a 180 after one auto-match.

Sure enough, after matting out this kind of heavy-duty command, Jing Yu no longer seeks to have his teammates to work with him, instead taking initiative to meet them.

Burial Sword wants to gank Scarlet Fury?

Frozen Heart Flashes over and directly Ults, controlling both Burial Sword and Black Serpent, co-oping them with Scarlet Fury.

Ariel wants to take Centaur along to kill True Arrow?

Frozen Heart sneak-attacks from behind, critical-strikes to take down Centaur, then flees with Flash, not even bothering to see the instant True Arrow counter-kills* Ariel.

(*Counter-kill: Turning around the situation and killing the enemy.)

Burial Sword wants to help Mad Bones kill Lilith?

Sorry! That’s impossible. Lilith flips the situation on them aggressively. Mad Bones retreats to the enemy turret; Burial Sword flees for dear life with only a sliver of health. And Frozen Heart, who has been lurking nearby, charges out to finish them both in one strike.

13 : 7

The first Demonic Dragon hasn’t even been refreshed yet, but this kind of score has already surfaced.

Ane who only took down 7 heads begins to lose their cool. Even the command, hI spits a cuss: “Fuck… This new jungler’s jungle awareness is too good. He’s tricky to deal with.”

However, at the same time, he also pinpoints many problems: “Take note. The enemy marksman’s tempo is a little weird. When the jungler rushes out to help, he totally doesn’t have any intention of cooperating. It’s almost as if he doesn’t know the jungler would come to help.”

As pro-gamers who have all completed in PGL a couple of times, they immediately grasp hI’s point.

Jungler Fly: “Let’s lure them in. Ah Ye, kite. Set up a trap to gank* Frozen Heart!”

(*gank (v): also used to describe using underhanded means to kill the enemy)

Marksman gY: “No problem~”

On the screen, the enemy Centaur who had originally been at an impasse with True Arrow suddenly begins to retreat relentlessly. True Arrow naturally won’t let go of this kind of opportunity. Under the umbrella of Sariel’s protection, he takes chase to gank.

Shortly after passing by a certain bush, Frozen Heart uses Flash to scuttle out, directly releasing his Ult. Yet, the enemy Centaur reacts as if he had long foreseen this. Using the Release ability of his equipment, he unleashes Ult and barrels forward, knocking Frozen Heart in the completely opposite direction of True Arrow.

“Marksman, come assist!” Jing Yu exclaims in shock, wanting to Flash away. Yet, he sees a silhouette that is faster than him Flashing towards him whilst wielding his Ult — It’s Burial Sword!

The squishy Frozen Blade is instakilled* just like that.

(*instakill: instantly killed)

“Retreat, retreat, retreat!” Jing Yu desperately changes his order, “Marksman, don’t come!”

However, upon hearing Jing Yu’s first command, Luo Yiming who has never liked to retreat has already charged forward instinctively. By then, it’s already too late to even think about retreating.

Han Leng Shields and Heals. Despite all that, he is still unable to save Luo Yiming from Centaur and Burial Sword’s barrage of attacks. In the end, Luo Yiming’s True Arrow tumbles dead on the ground very quickly.

Han Leng turns his Sariel to flee but is easily caught up by Burial Sword using a refreshed Flash. As all of Sariel’s abilities are still on cool-down, he doesn’t have any defensive abilities. Soon enough, he’s slashed to a bloody death by Burial Sword.

With this, Ane has gotten a very beautiful 0 for 3.

“Nice**!” Fly who has gotten three heads is visibly the happiest.

(*8in English.)

hI is also satisfied: “Good teamwork. Let’s keep this up.”

In comparison, the air over at pg‘s side becomes oppressive.

Jing Yu stares at the system prompts refreshing and furrows his brows, wanting to say something yet unable to. In the end, he doesn’t say a thing.

Luo Yiming is hardly as restrained. He says whatever comes to mind: “Wanting me to come one moment then telling me to retreat the next. What’s with that ah?”

Jing Yu’s the one who wants to say ne. When he was sent flying, if the marksman and support had used Flash to get to his side, even if he was instakilled, they could at least still take down Centaur. Afterall, Centaur has Release, but Ariel doesn’t. An enemy Centaur who lacks support is actually very easy to kill.

If this is his usual Standard games, who cares whether he’s streaming or not, Jing Yu would have directly spat out his thoughts. But now, grouping with pg this professional team to play a pro-gamer’s match, not to mention he’s seated beside Qin Fei… He can only endure:

“Sorry. I didn’t lead properly.”

Luo Yiming, this thick-nerve**, naturally doesn’t pick up on the grievance in his voice: “Don’t worry, it’s okay. Just be a little bit more careful next time.”

(** Thick-Nerve (粗神经): An obtuse little idiot who is unable to pick up on what is obvious. The best comparison I have is “You have the nerve to actually–XXX” Luo Yiming is that nerve, and he’s doing it obliviously.)

Qin Fei frowns, just about to part his mouth when Han Leng beats him to the chase: “Goldfish ah, warn us a little before you attack the next time. Let us have some mental preparation.”

“Okay.” Jing Yu obediently agrees.

Unexpectedly, in the next Team Battle:

Jing Yu: “I’m about to use my Ult! Guys, attack!”

No sooner has he said it, Frozen Heart Flashes to Centaur. Almost at the same time, True Arrow and Sariel directly throw themselves forward.

And yet, because Jing Yu lulled a while before he released his Ultimate, True Arrow neither dodged nor flashed and suffered a good number of arrows shot by Centaur during that time, dropping to critical health.

Following that, Frozen Heart uses his Ultimate, freezing both Centaur and Ariel in place. Centaur, who ended up using his Release ability far too early, is completely under his control. Simultaneously, Burial Sword flashes over and directly collects the head of the low HP True Arrow. Turning around whilst activating his Ult, he instakills Frozen Heart.

Once the Freeze effect disappears, Centaur co-ops Sariel with Burial Sword, easily taking him down.

Again with another 0 for 3.

“Fuck!” Luo Yiming loses his cool, “Goldfish, did you release your Ult late?”

Jing Yu bites down on his lower lip: “It’s so our control won’t be released…”

Han Leng: “You should also warn us before you change strategy ah.”

Luo Yiming: “That’s right, that’s right! Thanks to that, I had all my defences down! Didn’t even think about hiding.”

At this point, Ye Hong who has been in a stalemate against Black Serpent all along finally can’t bear to listen on: “Your own vegetables**, why do you keep throwing the pot** on Goldfish? Goldfish, don’t listen to their bullshit. Your leading was excellent. It’s their fault for not keeping up.”

(** Your own vegetables (你俩自己菜) : Your own amateurish mistakes)

(** throwing the pot (甩锅): throwing the blame on someone else)

Luo Yiming: “Ye Zi, this is where you’re wrong. You can’t keep speaking up for Goldfish because he’s a newbie ah. Once you see the problem, you must correct it.”

“All of you shut up!”

All of a sudden, a thunderous voice booms out. In an instant, the training room becomes quiet as a grave.

The person who spoke is Qin Fei. He looks steadfast ahead at his own screen, his expression completely unreadable:

“From hereon, nobody speaks. Leave the pot-throwing for the review session.”

Nobody answers. Nobody dares to.

Subsequently, all the way until the match finishes, not even half a person** says half a word, obviously treating Qin Fei’s words as a decree.

(**half a person / word (半个人) : of course, it’s just a Chinese phrase to emphasize the lack of people and words.)

Yet, after a period of time, Qin Fei speaks up again, his tone slightly less terse: “Jing Yu, start by playing at your own pace.”

Jing Yu nods his understanding.

Although he was also cowed into silence by Qin Fei’s oppressive tone, for some reason, upon hearing these words, his heart warms up.

As expected of my favourite pro-gamer.

Start by playing at his own pace, is that right? Then, let’s forget about the people who are harder to work with.

Therefore, following this, Luo Yiming and Han Leng are completely ignored by Jing Yu. Frozen Heart correspondingly never stray towards the bottom lane again, leaving the marksman to be sneak-attacked in repeated succession by Burial Sword. Luo Yiming’s True Arrow dies time and again, completely shut down by the enemy.

Luo Yiming is about to be annoyed to death. Still, he doesn’t dare to make a single peep. His ever-increasing errors makes his battle record so painful to the eyes, it’s unbearable to watch.

Finally, the Demonic Dragon refreshes. The first wave of team battles erupts.

The control tower, Qin Fei finally lays down his first reasonable direction: “Han Leng, Ult. Jing Yu, attack.”

Jing Yu naturally knows what he should do. He positions himself primely, eyes peeled to stare intently on the screen. Then, seizing the moment Sariel unleashes his Ultimate, he pinpoints Snow Allure on the enemy Support and pulls himself forward to Ult, freezing Ariel, Black Serpent and Centaur all in one breath!

At the same time, Qin Fei’s Lilith spearheads the team charging at the trio and opens attack!

With Sariel’s Ultimate’s blood-lock still in effect, pg doesn’t bat a single eye at Mad Bones and passes right over him en masse in favor of the three sitting ducks. Even when Centaur applies his Release, he’s still unable to escape the brunt of Scarlet Fury’s Ultimate.

The well-prepared mage’s damage when he Ults is devastating. Blood Purgatory directly takes off two-thirds of Black Serpent and Centaur’s lifeblood.

Frozen Heart uses his 1st ability to take off Centaur’s head and slips away. True Arrow Flashes up front, snipes down Black Serpent, then proceeds to vengefully target Ariel.

Finally, Ariel’s head is taken by Lilith. After killing Ariel, Qin Fei swipes his mouse, leading Lilith in Mad Bones’ direction. Ye Hong’s Scarlet Fury instantly Flashes over, using his 2nd ability Blood Entanglement to slow Mad Bones’ escape. Then, Lilith follows it through with a string of relentless attacks, knocking Mad Bones till his head’s sent turning every direction.

Subsequently, True Arrow’s attack catches up, finishing off Mad Bones.

With his whole team eradicated, Burial Sword, who’d been hiding in the bushes and intending to sneak attack, changes his mind to withdraw.

On the way, he scours a few bushes. After failing repeatedly to find Frozen Heart, he finally crouches down in a bush near pg‘s Demonic Disk and makes the decision to steal the Dragon.

But how can Jing Yu give him such an opportunity?

Right as pg closes in on the Demonic Dragon, Jing Yu’s Frozen Heart turns over every bush in the vicinity and easily locates Burial Sword.

Frozen Heart’s in the open, Burial Sword’s under cover. A second right before his cover is blown, Burial Sword has already launched his attack. Flashing to Frozen Heart’s back, he takes aim the open back and brings his sword down. Using two abilities one after the other, he instantly beats Frozen Heart within a silver of his health.

Jing Yu’s Flash has already been used. He can only walk and hide; do all he can to hold up Burial Sword.

Yet, Burial Sword totally isn’t tempted by the weakened prey at all. Flashing to the Demonic Sword’s side, he uses his Ultimate! And then — Smite!

Fuck!

Even if pg‘s every member reacts in time, their various abilities and Ultimates won’t be able to overtake the enemy jungler’s Smite in landing on the Demonic Dragon. Therefore, not long after pg vented all their anger by slaughtering Burial Sword, the screen refreshes with four system prompts:

【System】Burial Sword has conquered the Demonic Dragon!

【System】The Dragon Army is infiltrating the Battlefield!

【System】True Arrow, First Kill!

【System】The enemy Burial Sword has been killed!

“We’ve lost.”

A voice breaks the silence. In those words, they’re filled with tremendous helplessness.

“No, we still haven’t.”

Another voice thus answered.
