A nations Rises
I'm sitting behind my desk, an ancient wooden thing stained by years of use. My office is not cluttered but isn't bare either I have several pictures of me and my friends and family through the years as well as some mementos and trinkets. I've been dreading this day for centuries but the time has finally come, we have tried to unify humanity through the ages a few different times and a few different ways but it never quite works but it also never outright fails either. It's my turn to lead this attempt and I know it will be the last if we fail now then humanity is gone by itself right now it is on its way to killing itself.
You might be asking yourself why this has taken a few tries well the answer to that is actually really stupid. We have a contest slash bet going on whose go will succeed and so far everyone has lost. A few have gotten close, like the roman empire that was founded and initially led by one of my sentinels Siff but as history shows it ultimately failed. A few attempts failed because they were too aggressive like Germany which was founded by my daughter Bliss and another sentinel Varian.
Yes, teams were allowed but it does cut down the ability to gloat if you win. another was Gandhi who actually surprised us all by trying to be a pacifist we all thought he would create oceans of blood but no. Part of the rules are you are only allowed to lead for a lifetime to keep it fair and to not arouse suspicion as to why the roman emperor hasn't aged a day in three centuries. Anyway like I said it's my turn but part of why I'm going last is because I've done this before technically, the rest of the world has two eras, BC and AD but we have three BC(before Cataclysm) AC(after Cataclysm) also known as BE now and lastly AE(after emergence) at the turn of AC is when I kind of failed but I had unified humanity just our enemies were not human and were relentless.
We may have scorched the entire planet to restart it hence the cataclysm nomenclature. Back to the point though. I had to pick a location for my nation to rise from but when I was placing it in 1980 AD (180 million AC) the only free space was Antarctica. So I went with Antarctica and we started construction. We built a sprawling bunker complex because we couldn't really build on the surface. It's 2023 AD and Now we have a total of five bunker cities around the continent the capital city is near where chili from south america reaches, and a future plan is to build an underwater rail to connect them. A knock comes from my door.
“Come in” In through the door comes Siff with a tablet out “Today is the day I've checked everything and we are good to drop the news on the world, Kel told me after he left a bar that everyone is glued to the tv waiting for the official word” I sigh and stand up “I guess I can't procrastinate anymore” I lead us out the door and into the hall. If it wasn't for the concrete floor one could almost forget they were literally under a mountain from the greenery growing on the walls and the simulated skies that were a match of the current weather outside so if is snowing the temperature drops slightly and one can see snowflakes if they look u, it also dimms. “So what do I win if you lose” I glance back at her “Who said id lose” she smirks “thing is I recall I have the highest score” “Oh is that how it is well I'm not going to lose thats part of the reason why you all are in on it with me” “cheater”
Our banter keeps up as we wind through the halls then the main roads to the main gate sealed and never opened. Until now.
I stand behind a podium with dozens of news networks in front of me with hundreds of citizens behind them and I know millions watching on tv. “Today marks the beginning of a new era as we open these gates we open ourselves to the world both the good and the bad. We will try and exist alongside them but as we have seen some are cesspits of debauchery and crime and we will never tolerate that even if it drags us into a war” I hear some cheers at my pause.
We have been watching the rest of the globe and what we have seen we have shown the citizens the outrage displayed was tremendous. “We will push for them to stop their practices but we will invade them if we must as you all well know but for today forget about the rest of the world and celebrate as we open our doors and launch platforms and reach out for our manifest destiny” I finish up to a roar of cheers as truly natural light pours in from the now open doors. Once the fever settles some reporters raise their hands. “I'll try to get to you all but some may have to be on the way to the launch platform” I point at one reporter from Vichester the third bunker city to be built. “Mike Newsom from Vichester interlocal news, how do you intend to deal with the world's initial reaction”
I rub my chin for a moment “We have plans drawn up for both worst and best case scenarios but each encounter will be different so at the most basic level our response to individual nations will be their response if they try to immediately declare war then we will show them a true war but if they extend an olive branch and wish for friendly relations we will gladly reciprocate” I point at another but they are from Volaris the second city, they started off as a mining outpost.
“Jeff Daumer from Volaris local how are you planning to integrate the local populaces of absorbed regions” this one is a easy question but loaded “easy we will offer them the same chances as all of you citizenship by servus if they do this then they will be one of us and every person citizen or not will be expected to follow our laws and be held to the same punishments as everyone else” Siff whispers in my ear “im sorry but we must make out way to the pad now if you don't mind the walking id be more than happy to answer more questions along the way” we set off at a slow pace so anyone could walk and talk without losing breath with everyone coming with an the next person who i pick is actually not a reporter, i bet they have some interesting questions “
