al was both curious and distrustful of the changed Countess of Mercure.

While he was away, the Countess had somehow become friends with Shar.

It was unusual for the Count, who was feared as ruthless by those around him, to be so kind to a particular woman, even if it was an act.

Especially if she was an uninteresting, vulnerable woman who he didn’t seem to be interested in at all.

When the Countess was still in the Baron’s household, Val had carefully investigated the future Countess.

The young lady with magical powers, who was marginalized in the baronial household, was quiet, who never left her room, sickly and timid, and without personality.

Hence, he thought she was just right and recommended her without bothering the busy Shar.

Val had never imagined that she’d transform into this.

It also puzzled him that Hue, his twin brother, fully supported her. Hue.

Not long ago, he was as indifferent to her as Shar was.

To Val, the current Madam seemed like a foreign object that threatened to destroy their home.

Those who spent time together in the academy tended to form bonds. It was not something to be praised, but in order to survive in the harsh environment, they needed friends.

Especially in Val and his generation, the Count of Mercure’s family itself had gone through a rough patch. He and Hue, the children of a mistress, were plunged into a complicated position.

Shar was a candidate to become the next Count against the biological son of the former Count.

When the two factions turned against each other, Val and Hue, who had been oppressed on a daily basis, did not hesitate to follow Shar.

They were unlike Gordon, who was opportunistic and ambitious.

According to Hue, Madam had replaced most of the servants in the Mercure household and had begun to change the rules of the academy.

(I’m a stranger, but she’s bold, isn’t she?)

Val pushed the heavy door open and forcefully pulled the arm of the lady to stop her from leaving the room.

“Val, let me hear your report. Let go of Ram’s arm.”

Shar again spoke up in Ram’s defense.

His small gesture of kindness, however, was too modest to be understood by his wife.

The Count of Mercure was feared by most noblemen, but she treated him like a normal person.

“Since Madame is also a member of the House of Mercure, shouldn’t we let her listen to what I had to say?”

“Ram is busy. I asked her to do a job for me.”

“What job?”

Was it safe to ask her to do a job when she couldn’t even socialize properly?

In fact, Val had only ever seen Ram in bed, dressed and alone in her room, reading a book or drinking tea.

“Nothing…ahem. Anyway, don’t bother the busy Ram.”

When Val looked at the Countess, she was staring at her grabbed arm with a troubled look.

“Um, don’t you think you should let me go now?”

“If you show me your magic.”

“I can’t just hurl you in here.”

“Or any other magic, for that matter. Hue told me that My Lady can do some interesting magic. Is there anything you’d like to try now?”

Seeing how the Countess wanted to be released as soon as possible, no matter what it was, Val gave her one more push. He was not convinced until he witnessed her magic with his own eyes.

He knew he was opinionated, but he was just trying to protect the Mercure family.

“I think I’ll use … Illusion Magic to change the atmosphere of this study a bit. I’ve always found it a bit grim and gloomy.”

It was common for people from other countries to feel the same way at the sight of the Count’s house.

The Mercure family, which had produced some of the best wizards in the world, had a lot of old, creepy figurines and furniture.

Dark rooms, furniture with creepy carvings, terrifying curtains and carpets.

The former Count said it was to prevent visitors from treating them with contempt…From an outsider’s point of view, it was just plain creepy.

“Master Shar, do you mind?”

Val asked Shar for permission and he nodded: “If Ram’s fine with it.”

“All right, can you let go of my hand now?”

“I can’t. I can’t be sure My Lady won’t run away.”

“…You could get caught up in the magic.”

“It’s just redecoration. It’s harmless magic, right?”

“Although it’s safe…”

She raised her free hand upwards to release the spell.

“Shine lovely room!”

(Wh-What was that?)

Those who use magic, not just her, often shout out the name of a predetermined technique.

That way, it would be easier to solidify the image and make the magic materialize.

(I’ve never heard of this magic.)

However, the countess’s magic seemed to have definitely been released, and a pale light spread through the room, gently enveloping the walls and furniture.

Val’s eyes were glued to the magic, which looked somewhat divine.

Eventually, the white light converged, and what appeared was…

An overly pretty room based on peach and white colors.

“What’s this?”

The creepy figurines transformed into cute ones that children would like…No, they had transformed into slightly ugly stuffed animals; the curtains had turned into floral lace, and the carpet had changed shape into a fuzzy object like a cloud.

The shelves had red and white polka dots, and the surprisingly dim chandelier shone brightly in the form of a round sun, moon and stars.

(Exquisitely fluffy and in poor taste)

In front of the strawberry-patterned office desk, Shar seemed unable to keep his mouth shut.

The Countess herself, however, had a look of satisfaction on her face.

“Hahaha, I’ve redecorated this boring room. I’m glad it turned out so nice.”

Not good, definitely not good!

The study of the head of the Mercure family had been transformed into a room full of bad taste and misguided cuteness.

This was definitely not something no one wanted to show to outside guests.

As Val was getting flustered, Lady Mercure said, “Oh…,” and looked at Val’s arm.

“I knew you’d be affected. You wouldn’t let go of my hand.”

When she said that, Val looked down at his arm…

“What the hell?”

Val’s hands were dyed a pale peach color up to his elbows, with a large number of small lemon colored ribbons on them. It was the same pattern as the cushion cover placed nearby.

“P-Please undo it…it was my fault for making a reckless request.”

Val appealed rather desperately to his Madam.

If the ruthless and merciless elite of magic of the Mercure family went to work with such hands, he’d definitely be the laughingstock.

However, Ram tilted her head back and stared at Val’s hands, which were stained with a tragic pattern.

“It’s so pretty. It’s not harmful to humans, but you have to take a special medicine to get rid of it. Shar, can I use the kitchen to concoct medicines?”

“There is a laboratory outside…outside the mansion. You can use that one…Feel free to choose…the materials.”

Count Mercure was flustered.
