The group walked out in a grand manner, with no one on the way. The hospital seemed deserted, not even the sound of insects could be heard.

One of the tasks required them to escape from the hospital. They planned to take advantage of the current lack of people to explore outside of it. Even if they couldn’t directly complete the task, they hoped to find more clues.

The hospital was incredibly unobstructed, making them suspicious that there was something happening behind the scenes. They could see the hospital gate in the distance. Li Xi shook Duan Zhen’s hand and whispered, “There’s a guard over there.”

Duan Zhen frowned and made a quick decision, “Let’s go over the wall.”

They turned a corner and gathered near the wall, far from the gatehouse.

“The wall has only some broken glass, and there’s a relatively simple protection,” Xia Qirong took a few steps back, squinting, “Just be careful, and it should be fine.”

“I’ll go out and take a look,” Duan Zhen said.

There was no need for everyone to go out initially; just one person could check if the task was completed. Moreover, the outside of the hospital might not be safe.

He prepared to climb over the wall, intending to withdraw his hand from Li Xi’s grip. After a failed attempt to pull away, he couldn’t help but glance down.

Li Xi was also looking at him, showing a worried expression, “Brother Duan, be careful.”

Duan Zhen nodded.

Like an agile leopard, he effortlessly scaled the wall in a blink of an eye, landing without making a sound.

Truly like a big cat, stirring a wild fascination in Li Xi.

He daydreamed about when he could hug the big cat tightly in his arms.

As he stared blankly at the other side of the wall, he suddenly felt a gaze, thick, hot, and familiar.

His noble upbringing prevented him from uttering cursing. He redirected his magical energy backward, engaging with another force.

However, he still couldn’t pinpoint where the person was, only sensing his proximity.

“Why did the wind suddenly pick up?” Xia Qirong adjusted his wind-blown clothes, looking around, “This wind is strangely peculiar.”

Of course, it wasn’t windy at all. It was an airflow generated when two forces collided. Later on, Li Xi also blocked it a bit, worried about being too obvious and getting discovered.

He remained silent, quietly assessing the people around him. Xia Qirong and Sun Le were obviously not controlled; if Clements had taken control of them, he would have sensed it immediately. According to the distance he had sensed earlier, if the person appeared here in human form, they would be in Bai Hua’s team.

Just as he was thinking, Duan Zhen flipped back over the wall. Instead of immediately jumping down, he squatted on the wall, looking out with a furrowed brow.

“Is there something wrong outside?” Li Xi asked when he finally jumped down.

Duan Zhen didn’t answer immediately. After a moment of contemplation, he said, “There’s nothing outside.”

“Nothing at all?” Xia Qirong couldn’t help but ask, “Is it not dangerous?”

“No, it’s just an expanse of white,” Duan Zhen said. “It’s as if the entire world only consists of this hospital.”

It couldn’t even be called a small world here because there was only an abandoned hospital.

“The task is also not completed,” he continued.

“It seems we can only escape at night,” Sun Le suggested.

This was not simple, considering the monsters they encountered last night might just be the tip of the iceberg. After all, necromancers could control corpses, and the number of corpses buried behind the mountains…

Just thinking about it sent shivers down their spines.

They split up again to search the hospital. Li Xi naturally followed Duan Zhen. At one point, they had to hide in a small corner to avoid a nurse on patrol. Li Xi buried his head in Duan Zhen’s chest, feeling like he was only a kiss away from ascending to the heavens.

Fortunately, Duan Zhen had a clear mind. After the nurse passed, he advised Li Xi to be vigilant at all times, not just focused on walking and searching for clues.

In reality, Li Xi was solely focused on walking and sticking close to Duan, completely neglecting the search for clues. He had already made up his mind to seize an opportunity to eliminate the necromancer at night. After all, in the game, there was no rule saying a Demon Lord couldn’t cheat a little.

Moreover, the requirement of defeating ten bosses to leave the game’s world, it was actually added by the main system. Originally, they planned to rely on volunteers, making use of the temptations of money and power. There would always be daredevils participating in the game; there was no need for such a forced restriction.

As they continued their journey, time quickly passed, and evening arrived.

Duan Zhen and the others gathered on the first floor, exchanging the clues they had found.

The hospital had a total of five floors, each room occupied with patients, making it overcrowded. Strangely, the entire hospital had only one doctor, while the rest were nurses and caregivers.

Avoiding these individuals, Xia Qirong and Sun Le found something resembling a laboratory. Inside, they discovered an experimental record starting from March, labeled with a “4” on the cover, suggesting there should be three previous volumes, but they couldn’t find them.

Sun Le handed the record to Duan Zhen for inspection.

—— March 21st, clear weather, injected medication to five patients, all survived, no adverse reactions.

—— March 22nd, clear weather, injected medication for one patient, survived, no adverse reactions.

Flipping through the pages, all the entries were similar until the last few pages, where the handwriting became noticeably messy, likely around the time the hospital was abandoned.

“There are also newspapers,” Bai Hua held several cut-out articles, “I found them in an archive room.”

Duan Zhen took a glance.

The articles were from the time when the hospital first emerged, gaining fame for its 100% cure rate. However, the hospital refused all doctors who sought to study or work there. Over time, the healed patients exhibited similar changes— developing cold and silent personalities, aversion to sunlight, a preference for consuming blood and flesh, and pale skin.

Tests were conducted on them, concluding that there was nothing unusual. But since everyone displayed such changes, it was evidently not a coincidence.

“The hospital’s healing ability relies entirely on that kind of medication,” Bai Hua casually remarked. “I don’t know what kind of magical potion it is, but it’s capable of curing critically ill patients. And the way they are now, it’s like they’ve turned into zombies.”

He glanced at Li Xi, “You encountered a necromancer in the instance before. Do you know anything about this potion?”

“I seem to have heard about it,” Li Xi leaned against Duan Zhen, offering a delicate smile. “But I can’t recall clearly. It should be something related to the magical side.”

“Think again,” Bai Hua’s tone was slightly urgent.

Li Xi blinked, “I really can’t remember. Besides, it’s not relevant to the mission, right?”

Bai Hua’s words were halted as Li Xi cut him off. Li Xi continued with a raised eyebrow, arms crossed, “Even if it is relevant, how does it matter? Give me your analysis.”

This behavior was contrary to his usual demeanor, and Duan Zhen couldn’t help but give him a few more glances. He felt that a child with some sharp edges wasn’t bad. The previously soft and easily bullied demeanor was unsettling.

But as soon as Bai Hua stopped talking, Li Xi leaned back to him, tiptoed, and whispered in his ear, “I feel like Bai Hua isn’t on the same team as us.”

His voice was just as soft as before.

Duan Zhen nonchalantly made a sound of agreement, pressing him back into place.

When the last trace of light was swallowed by darkness, the hospital shed its disguise in front of everyone’s eyes.

The pristine white walls darkened and yellowed, peeling wallpaper revealing cracked surfaces. Dried, deep-black bloodstains covered the floors, walls, and even handrails. Cobwebs adorned corners, and as the lights dimmed, the shattered windows let in a chilling wind that seemed to seep into people’s bones.

Simultaneously, roars of monsters echoed from each floor, and sharp scratching noises of claws against the ground emanated from both ends of the first-floor corridor.

“Go!” Duan Zhen instinctively pulled Li Xi and led everyone out.

However, just as they reached the hospital entrance, they had to stop urgently, narrowly avoiding a face-to-face collision with a massive army of skeletons outside.

…Among the skeletons was a newly deceased Bai Er, already with white eyes, mouth wide open, and drool dripping onto the ground.

“I think skeletons are more pleasing to the eye,” Xia Qirong couldn’t help but comment.

With skeletons in front and monsters emerging from all directions behind, it seemed like they were trapped.

“To the basement,” Li Xi quickly said. “We need to kill the necromancer, and these things will return to their original state.”

“No!” Bai Hua suddenly shouted, “The necromancer can kill us in an instant. Going there is seeking death!”

He had lied earlier; in front of the main gate, they didn’t faint. At that time, he sent Bai Er forward for reconnaissance, but in the blink of an eye, Bai Er collapsed, and the contract was severed.

At that moment, he was so scared that he turned and ran, not daring to witness what happened afterward.

“Staying here is also a dead end,” Duan Zhen said coldly, ignoring him and leading the others towards the basement.

Bai Hua stood in place, surrounded by approaching monsters. Gritting his teeth, he led his team upstairs. Several team members encircled him, using various means to clear a path for him.

Duan Zhen protected Li Xi behind him, advancing towards the basement. Perhaps they chose the right path because, once they descended the stairs, there were no monsters in front or behind them.

“The big boss’s aura was created in an instant,” Xia Qirong began to chatter.

He tended to talk a lot when nervous, especially in crucial moments.

Duan Zhen gave him a stern look, then turned his head to survey the corridor. Indeed, as Bai Hua had described, it was pitch-black, with visibility limited to mere inches. He took out a few glowstones from his backpack and tossed them inside.

Glowstones from the shop illuminated a half-meter radius around them. After a perfect parabolic arc through the air, the stones landed on the ground, rolling a few times before clattering against something.

By the light, they could see it was an iron door.

“Take this.” Li Xi rummaged in his pocket and pulled out a few gems, handing them to Sun Le and Xia Qirong. “This amulet can help protect you from the necromancer’s attacks.”

He paused and added, “Consider it borrowed; return them later.”

“For Brother Duan, it’s a direct gift, but for us, it’s borrowing, and they’re not even carved into amulet shapes yet.” Xia Qirong complained, “Li Xiao Xi1He’s calling him a bit more affectionately, you’re really not fair.”

“Don’t call me Li Xiao Xi.” Li Xi didn’t respond to the first half of his comment.

He would only gift his favorite gems to the people he liked.

If these two weren’t Duan Zhen’s teammates, he might not have let them even borrow anything.
