Claiming to be hungry was just an excuse; given Li Xi’s magical reserves, he could go without eating for several days. His current indulgence in food was solely due to a craving for it.

Segmented kelp was just too fragrant. To prevent himself from doing something regrettable, he decided to eat elsewhere.

Swimming in the sea, Li Xi took a peppermint-flavored milk candy from his spatial storage and savored it in his mouth.

Apart from consuming humans, mermaids could also eat fish. However, Li Xi didn’t want to directly catch a fish and gnaw on it. Giving up the idea of eating fish, he strolled around in the sea. After seeing the other four mermaids from a distance, he swam towards the rocky area.

Unfortunately, by the time he arrived, Duan Zhen was no longer there. Sensing his presence with magic, Li Xi realized he was in the middle of the island, probably preparing to rest for the night.

Li Xi used his tail to pat the water surface, feeling a bit displeased.

He couldn’t go ashore now, and Duan Zhen couldn’t come underwater to accompany him.

The fish tail that had been praised by him moments ago now seemed particularly inconvenient.

Under his uncomfortably piercing gaze, the fish tail curled up in grievance.

With nothing else to do, Li Xi laid on the rocks near the reef, a small part of his fish tail immersed in the water, idly slapping the surface.

After staying at the shore for a while and confirming that Duan Zhen had no intention of coming out, he reluctantly dived back into the water. There were various beautiful and cute little fish in the water, which could at least help him pass the time.

Mermaids were the darlings of the ocean, attracting many beautiful little fish to swim around wherever they went. The more colorful the fish, the more dangerous they tended to be, but their toxins posed no threat to mermaids. Mermaids could even casually eat them as snacks.

Of course, Li Xi had no interest in eating small fish raw.

Leaning against a red coral, he extended his fingers to play with those small fish. The little fish weren’t afraid of him and eagerly approached, gently touching his fair fingertips with their mouths.

The youth lowered his eyes to look at them, a hint of a smile disappearing as his features revealed a sharpness like a blade. That kind of sharp beauty made him look handsome without appearing effeminate. Just leaning there exuded an aura of being not easy to deal with.

The water surface undulated irregularly, and Li Xi knew that another mermaid was swimming towards him. He initially thought it was another participant in this game, but unexpectedly, it was a stranger.

Seemingly in a hurry, the other mermaid was about to swim past him a few hundred meters away when, naturally, they turned and came directly in front of Li Xi.

Puzzled, Li Xi lifted his eyes to look at the newcomer.

“Hello,” the mermaid said.

They have a unique language that allows them to communicate underwater.

“Hello,” Li Xi said casually, looking up.

He hadn’t expected to encounter other mermaids in this world, and it seemed like there were quite a few. The notion of everyone disappearing, as mentioned in the task, became intriguing.

Lost in thought, he didn’t pay much attention to the unfamiliar mermaid. However, the stranger seemed even more enthusiastic, “Are you a newly arrived mermaid from outside? I’ve never seen you before. You look so beautiful, as if kissed by the Sea God.”

Li Xi didn’t understand what the other mermaid was trying to convey and politely thanked him.

Unexpectedly, the mermaid seemed to stick to him, fervently inviting him to the Royal City. According to him, the king was currently selecting a queen, and with Li Xi’s appearance, he could easily become the queen, ruling the majestic ocean.

Li Xi’s mouth twitched slightly, and he couldn’t help but be curious, “Do you only judge by appearance?”

“The more beautiful a mermaid is, the more favored they are by the Sea God,” the stranger mermaid explained casually, “so they are entitled to enjoy more resources.”

Raising an eyebrow, Li Xi probed further and discovered that this mermaid kingdom was entirely focused on physical appearance. All mermaids were extreme enthusiasts of beauty.

Thinking about this, he made up his mind and feigned a sorrowful expression. He sighed, “I can’t go to the Royal City.”

“Why?” the mermaid asked, puzzled.

“Because I already have someone I like, so I can’t become the queen,” Li Xi explained.

“That’s simple,” the mermaid waved his hand dismissively. “Just become the king, and let the one you like be the queen.”

Li Xi’s expression blanked for a moment, not expecting this kind of suggestion.

“You look better than the current king. The other fish will support you. The king can be with you, and there shouldn’t be any objections to this. Besides, such things have happened before,” the mermaid said confidently.

He spoke with absolute certainty.

Truly underestimating the mermaids’ obsession with beauty.

Li Xi paused for a moment before continuing his act, “But the one I like is a human.”

Suddenly, the mermaid fell silent, his face contorting slightly.

Thinking that such matters might be taboo in the mermaid world, Li Xi was about to offer some other excuse. However, the mermaid suddenly lifted his head, praising him with an enthusiastic tone, “I didn’t expect you to be so romantic!”

“Romantic?” Li Xi was dumbfounded.

“Falling in love with food is such a romantic thing,” the mermaid said excitedly, swaying his tail. After a while, he calmed down, “However, this matter is indeed somewhat difficult.”

Mermaids and humans, different races with vastly different lifespans, could be together, but it was challenging to find happiness until the end.

“I also know,” Li Xi sighed. He gazed across the sea, as if seeing Duan Zhen’s figure, and his expression softened, “But I like him.”

In the next moment, he concealed that affection, sighing, “I know the differences between mermaids and humans. That’s why I wanted to ask you if there is a way to turn a human into a mermaid.”

The mermaid was taken aback.

“Turn humans into mermaids?” Although he considered it to be a fantasy, he didn’t want to disappoint the beautiful merman. Hesitating, he said, “I don’t know how to perform such an operation, but historical records seem to mention such cases.”

“Where can I find instructions for this operation?” Li Xi’s eyes lit up.

“Witches should know,” the mermaid said. “Sea witches pass down their knowledge through generations and are familiar with most spells in the ocean. However, they are elusive and have peculiar temperaments. Even if you find one, there’s no guarantee they’ll help you.”

“Can you describe how an ocean witch looks?” Li Xi smiled at him. “At least I can give it a try.”

“Sure,” the mermaid agreed readily.

Listening to a multitude of witches legends, Li Xi concluded that witches in this world were octopuses, unpredictable, and fond of dark places.

Maintaining a friendly demeanor, suspecting that mermaids might serve other purposes, he endured a lot of nonsense. When he bid farewell to the mermaid and was given a scale as a parting gift, the mermaid blushed and said that if Li Xi ever changed his mind, he could come find him or visit the Royal City. He would willingly be a part of Li Xi’s harem.

Li Xi kept smiling.

Even though the mermaids’ tails sparkled like gemstones, he currently had no interest in keeping mermaids as pets.

Having gathered useful information this time, ensuring there was a way through this task, he was about to disperse his magical power to find the witch. Suddenly, he caught a whiff of a bloody scent.

A mysterious intuition surged within him; this was the blood of a mermaid.

Li Xi licked his lips, surmising that the conflict between the two factions had already begun.

However, killing mermaids in the ocean with their own kingdom was probably not a wise choice.

Stretching lazily, swaying his tail, he leisurely swam towards the source of the disturbance.

This task turned out to be more troublesome than he had imagined. If the two sides didn’t communicate, the ultimate losers would be the humans. Perhaps the humans still possessed something that could compensate for the enormous gap between the two factions.

He couldn’t help but feel that this task didn’t seem like the handiwork of Hewlett. Most likely, it was the main system acting on its own.

Normally, the main system wouldn’t have this authority, but Hewlett was quite indifferent to his little world, often letting the main system take over.

So, what was the purpose of the main system insisting on integration?

Li Xi vaguely remembered when they first merged, the main system mentioned being some kind of special forces training machine from the year 288 of the star calendar.

Contemplating, he was approaching the location where the scent of blood was coming from. Extending his magical perception, he sensed that Duan Zhen was also there.
