Not far from the shore, with the speed of a mermaid, Li Xi swam there in just a few minutes. From a distance, he could see a crimson hue on the sea surface, and the scent of blood became more pronounced.

Li Xi wrinkled his brows uncomfortably, intending to avoid the area contaminated with blood. However, his magical senses revealed that Duan Zhen was also there. Thus, he reluctantly surfaced halfway, looked around, summoned a dolphin using his mermaid abilities, and sat on its back, only allowing his tail to touch the water.

This arrangement made it more bearable, but it also completely exposed his presence to others.

“Li Xi?” Duan Zhen was surprised to see him, not expecting him to appear in front of all the task participants like this.

“There’s another mermaid!” someone on the shore shouted. “Archer, aim…”

“Stop.” Duan Zhen held down the person with the bow and arrow.

Perhaps for the convenience of combat, the participants selected this time, especially on the human side, almost all had long-range attack abilities.

While Duan Zhen held back others, Li Xi had already arrived not far from the shore. This distance was enough for others to see his face clearly. Sunlight bathed his skin, as fair as jade, his rosy lips slightly curled, and the scales on his partially exposed fish tail glittered. Surrounded by a group of adorable dolphins, he truly looked like a mermaid from the descriptions of the little world.

“I think we need to talk,” Li Xi said.

He lowered his eyes and glanced at the bloody water, not finding any mermaids in it. There were none on the shore either, indicating that the mermaids had escaped after confronting the enemy.

“Talk… about what?” one participant asked dumbfoundedly, seemingly captivated by his beauty.

“Is there anything to talk about?” a tall man standing beside him patted him on the back of his head, showing vigilance. “You’re a task participant too, right? This task is clearly designed for us to kill each other. Even if you have a pretty face, it’s not worth our lives.”

Duan Zhen frowned on the side, realizing that Li Xi had his own plan, so he refrained from interrupting. However, watching the young man who had clung to his sleeve pitifully in the previous two worlds grow into someone capable of confronting other seasoned task participants, he couldn’t help but feel a hint of complexity.

“I’m certainly not here to take your lives.” Li Xi smiled. His face, when lit up with a smile, seemed to emit radiance, capturing everyone’s attention. “You may not have noticed yet, but there are other mermaids in this ocean.”

“What do you mean?” The leader’s expression changed; it seemed he realized something, but he still asked sternly.

“There’s a mermaid kingdom in the ocean. If you want to rely on killing all the task participants to complete the mission, it’s obviously impossible.” Li Xi smiled faintly. “Unless you can kill all the mermaids in the ocean, otherwise, you’ll have to face the anger of an entire kingdom.”

“Impossible.” Another person exclaimed loudly. Though he looked at Li Xi with a sense of realization, the color on his face still deepened. His voice lowered as he said, “The gap between the two sides is too significant, and humans have no chance of winning. The game couldn’t be designed this way.”

Li Xi nonchalantly agreed, “You’re right. So, the most perfect solution to the mission is not mutual slaughter but cooperation.”

“Cooperation?”

“I got information from other mermaids. There have been cases of turning humans into mermaids before,” Li Xi dropped a bomb. “So, as long as I turn all of you into mermaids, the mission is completed.”

He paused, then continued, “However, only the sea witches know the way to transform into a mermaid. We need to find the witch.”

Saying this, Li Xi glanced secretly at Duan Zhen. To his surprise, he found Duan Zhen’s expression complex, staring at him, lost in thought.

Oh no, he overdid it.

A sense of panic gripped Li Xi. Instantly, he flashed through remedial strategies in his mind. He subtly adjusted his posture and expression, curled his tail, nervously swaying underwater, and lightly pursed his lips. His hand appeared casually on the dolphin’s back but was rigidly tensed.

While outsiders might not notice these subtle hints, having spent a long time with Duan Zhen, he quickly perceived Li Xi’s tension.

The strange feeling that emerged in his heart was smoothed out. Duan Zhen spoke, “What he said makes sense. The strength difference between us and the mermaids is too significant, and the situation is entirely different. The game wouldn’t set such a task.”

Stepping forward, he surveyed everyone. “Even if we don’t mention the mermaid kingdom, we can only move on this deserted island. I believe you’ve investigated it last night. Although there are no wild beasts here, there is also a lack of food and fresh water. On the other hand, mermaids can freely swim in the ocean, with an endless supply of food. They might not even need to appear, just silently waiting for us to die from hunger and exhaustion.”

He spoke at length. The participants in the intermediate level weren’t fools; they quickly began pondering.

Li Xi lightly smiled at Duan Zhen. If it weren’t for the inappropriate setting, he might have considered swimming over to kiss Duan Zhen’s little round mole on his nose.

This was the most outrageous thing he had ever imagined.

Once this matter here was settled, he could suggest to Duan Zhen to “meet” at the previous place. Even if he couldn’t kiss the little mole directly, pretending to innocently peck his cheek would be enough.

Thinking about this, Li Xi felt a bit impatient. Seeing that the group was still indecisive and not knowing when they would reach a conclusion, he turned his gaze and spoke again, “There’s nothing difficult to decide. Even if mermaids appear, you won’t necessarily be able to kill them. Those injured just now were probably task participants, and they didn’t even figure out the mermaids’ abilities.”

He licked his lips, revealing a provocative smile. “I can kill all of you right now.”

This statement immediately heightened the tension. The leader, a tall man, looked wary, “What do you mean by that?”

“Nothing, just wanted to hurry you up. I’m hungry,” Li Xi yawned lightly, lowering his head to play with the surrounding dolphins. He started humming an unknown melody.

The tune was beautiful, gentle, and carried a faintly hoarse voice that immersed everyone in a musical world. It seemed as though, through the music, they could see their dreamed-of future.

Wealth, honor, love…

In just a few dozen seconds, those who had just been shouting were now intoxicated, stepping towards Li Xi one by one.

As they approached, the warmth and joy became increasingly evident. Almost everyone was immersed in the melody, completely unaware that their bodies had sunk into the water.

The faces of the drowning individuals still held an illusionary and satisfied smile.

“Li Xi!” Duan Zhen was initially deceived, but as soon as his body touched the water, he sensed that something was wrong and surfaced immediately.

He understood that Li Xi was trying to intimidate these people, but seeing that he showed no intention of stopping, Duan Zhen couldn’t help but call out.

In this world without legal constraints, even if Li Xi chose to kill them, Duan Zhen didn’t have the authority to interfere. However, he remembered the clear and innocent eyes of the boy. Anyone who had experienced bloodshed knew it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Duan Zhen didn’t want Li Xi to truly step into the dark side of the world.

Li Xi certainly wouldn’t kill in front of Duan Zhen.

He smiled at him, “Brother Duan, don’t worry. I won’t actually kill them.”

With that, the dolphins around him dived and brought those people up.

Once they touched the air and were free from the seductive song, they began coughing violently. If not for Li Xi stopping in time, the mermaid faction would have completed the task this time.

When they regained consciousness, their gazes towards Li Xi were filled with suspicion.

“Don’t look at me like that.” Li Xi spread his hands. “This is a basic skill of mermaids. Mermaids who can’t sing won’t get any food.”

He intentionally made it sound terrifying. The people succumbed. After all, apart from the other dangers, they couldn’t resist the irresistible mermaid song. They had almost drowned earlier.

“We agree to cooperate,” after being tormented, these people finally became obedient. “But we can only stay on this deserted island. You might need to find the whereabouts of the ocean witch.”

“No problem,” Li Xi agreed readily.

“Now that this is settled, I’ll inform other mermaid participants of the cooperation. If you have any other information, it’s best to tell me directly or him,” he pointed at Duan Zhen. “He managed to break free from my singing with sheer willpower. I guess he’s on a different level than you guys.”

Li Xi teased, “He’s good-looking, strong, and I think he should have been assigned to the mermaid side from the beginning.”

Now that cooperation was confirmed and they were temporarily no longer in opposition, even though they were almost killed by Li Xi just now, the others felt a mixture of awe and quietly started to gossip about Duan Zhen.

Duan Zhen felt a bit helpless, looking at Li Xi. Seeing him smiling with curved eyes, he subtly made a gesture, indicating that they needed to talk later.

“I’m leaving,” Li Xi waved at him, sending another sweet smile, and then rode away on the dolphins.

Once he reached an area without the scent of blood, he leaped off the dolphins, stroked them one by one, and swam towards the reef where they had agreed to meet earlier.

Having spoken so much just now, his mouth was a bit dry, and he even craved something to eat.

He recalled the fragrance of Duan Zhen and sniffed. He wondered if Duan Zhen would be willing to give him a couple of licks to satisfy his cravings. After all, for the sake of completing the task normally, he had been running around and putting in a lot of effort.
