To find the taskers wasn’t as challenging as he made it sound to Duan Zhen. Li Xi stood still, opened his mouth, and emitted a special sonic vibration from his throat.

This was one of the abilities of a mermaid. The sonic waves could travel quite far, and different vibration frequencies represented different meanings. Since the taskers had turned into mermaids, they naturally could sense and understand the meaning of the sonic waves.

Sure enough, after waiting for a short while, there were ripples in the water.

Two mermaids arrived, one red and one green, a complementary pair.

Li Xi glanced at them and saw smart bracelets on their wrists, confirming them as taskers.

After a little more wait, a black mermaid joined them.

“You should be aware that there was a conflict between the mermaids and the humans just now,” Li Xi said, gently stroking the octopus head on his wrist, “The one who hasn’t arrived yet is probably injured. I’ll find them later. I called you here now because I’ve already reached an agreement with the human faction.”

He explained the situation in detail and concluded, “If anyone disagrees, speak up. Just don’t let me catch anyone playing tricks behind my back.”

For taskers, surviving a mid-level world was a rare opportunity, and they naturally wouldn’t oppose.

Satisfied, Li Xi nodded, “Let’s find the witch together. I have a hunch that seeking the witch is just the beginning of this mission.”

System-issued tasks wouldn’t encourage self-harm. On the contrary, it was testing their ability to cooperate. Only by working together, mermaids and humans, could they achieve the optimal solution for the mission.

Li Xi wasn’t interested in the optimal solution; he just wanted to guide the mission onto the right track so that he could fully enjoy his sweet romance with Duan Zhen.

Searching for the witch in the vast ocean was challenging. Li Xi initially thought of looking for the injured mermaid who hadn’t arrived yet. However, when he scanned the ocean with his magic, he found nothing.

He raised an eyebrow slightly.

Although he didn’t find the person he was looking for, he discovered that this world wasn’t a created instance but a complete world. Hewlett that guy had even included such a small dimension in the game. It seemed like he was not interested in joining the game.

After all, they were forcibly dragged into it.

Li Xi initially wondered if the mermaids had left the ocean, but he quickly dismissed the idea. The Endless Sea was vast, and an injured mermaid certainly wouldn’t have ventured ashore into the human world.

That’s interesting.

Li Xi rubbed his chin, deciding not to bother with this matter. He wasn’t even interested in finding the witch. The taskers could search a bit longer, giving him more time to stay in this world with Duan Zhen.

He couldn’t believe that, with his current appearance, he still couldn’t win over Duan Zhen.

Thinking about it, Li Xi decided to swim back along the same route he came from, stopping midway. He had just flirted and swum away; Duan Zhen might still be upset. He needed to find a way to calm him down before approaching. He absentmindedly stroked the small octopus on his wrist, getting addicted to it.

The little head was soft and slippery, mainly very obedient and cute enough. Li Xi thought about smuggling it back and keeping it as a pet. It even glowed in the deep sea.

The small octopus liked him a lot, allowing him to touch it. The little tentacles wrapped around his wrist carefully, like a small massage device. Li Xi pinched the tips of its tentacles, making it retreat hastily, almost shyly falling off his wrist.

Li Xi chuckled, “Quite smart.”

If it weren’t so small, looking like a cub, Li Xi would even suspect it to be the sea witch.

Unable to go find Duan Zhen, Li Xi decided to explore the ocean with magic out of boredom. He had just casually scanned before, discovering most creatures. However, anything well-hidden might have been overlooked. The mermaid might have used some concealment device or been taken away and hidden by others.

Li Xi closed his eyes, and his hair floated slightly with the water flow. The little octopus stared at him with its big grape-like eyes, watching him closely. After a long time, it waved its tentacles shyly, as if embarrassed.

It was the most beautiful mermaid he had ever seen in his memory, surpassing even the current king.

He used to think that mermaids were exaggerating when they claimed to be the favored race of the Sea God. With so many creatures in the ocean, what else did mermaids have to offer besides their attractive faces? But today, after seeing this mermaid, he genuinely felt the appeal of mermaids as face-connoisseurs.

The youth seemed like the most precious pearl born in the ocean, attracting the gaze of all living beings, instigating an uncontrollable possessiveness from the depths of one’s heart.

However, he could sense the nearly boundless magic power emanating from the other person, even surpassing the vastness of this endless sea. Being a Sea God’s favorite might not reach this level.

If he didn’t know that the other had no connection with the Sea God he believed in, he would have thought the Sea God had reappeared.

Li Xi pondered over many things. Although the actual time hadn’t passed much, he had already found his target, swimming toward that direction.

It was becoming increasingly dark in that direction, leading to the deep sea. The deep sea was not as peaceful as it seemed. There were extremely dangerous undercurrents in some places. Even mermaids might be swept into the abyss of the ocean floor if they weren’t careful.

Li Xi chanted magical incantations silently, exploring safely. Just before reaching the destination, he encountered a barrier. The person he was looking for was just behind the barrier.

Observing the gloomy and cold environment around, Li Xi even thought it was very likely that the elusive witch had brought the mermaids here. Perhaps this move could kill two birds with one stone, directly exposing the witch.

After all, he still needed the favor of others in the future. Li Xi knocked on the barrier, “Is anyone there?”

The small octopus wrapped around his wrist suddenly moved.

Li Xi lowered his gaze to see the small octopus leaping off his wrist. In mid-air, its figure transformed, its upper body turning into that of a young man while the lower tentacles grew significantly.

The young man had triangular ears tinted with a faint blue-green hue. With black hair and black eyes, he had a slightly pale complexion. He possessed a cold and faint appearance, yet there was a hint of shyness in his gaze as he looked at Li Xi.

“This is my home,” he said slowly. “Are you looking for the mermaids inside?”

As he spoke, he reached out and tapped the barrier. A thin film dissolved from the center, creating an entrance for people to come and go. “Please enter.”

Li Xi poked the young man’s face in surprise. “How did you suddenly grow larger?”

More importantly, he had not sensed any magical fluctuations, and there was no anomaly during his earlier exploration of the small octopus.

“It’s our racial talent,” the small octopus said slowly. “I wasn’t deliberately lying to you before; I was just sleeping in the sand.”

Li Xi raised an eyebrow. He didn’t believe this explanation, but he didn’t mind either. “I did come to find the mermaids inside, but I’m also looking for you. You are the Ocean Witch, right? Do you know how to turn humans into mermaids?”
