I wanted to seek refuge in Kamian’s embrace right away, to cry and beg you to help me because I was terrified of dying. But I couldn’t do that, and it only made me more miserable.

The more I relied on Kamian, the more attention he poured on me, the more his heart would grow stronger and more steadfast, seemingly limitless.

Time was running out. I had to sever the ties as soon as possible for him to give up.

So that Kamian could be remembered as the Kamian of this small town. The Kamian in the novel didn’t suit him.

Perhaps Kamian was right; I might be too attached, too in love to leave. The desire that had initially driven me to stop his runaway to return to the original world had gradually transformed into something else. I want to protect the town, protect Kamian.

Even if my life as a Liv ends in a sad ending, I hope the people here can continue to live peacefully as they do now.

“Ah…”

Suddenly, a sob surged up from within me. Once again, I sacrificed myself and realized that I wasn’t qualified to become the hero who would save the world.

If I were to live until the next summer, I could have confessed my feelings to Kamian.

…Having such regrets over and over again.

I escorted Sherry to her room after she finished her work. I promised to stay by her side until she fell asleep, and she nodded in agreement.

“Go and rest…”

I said, pushing my waist. I wanted to assure her that it’s alright, but the door closed right in front of me. Though she was a patient, I didn’t find it particularly pleasant to be treated like one by a child.

“Oh, surprise. Why are you just sitting there?”

I had thought Kamian would be asleep, but he had lit a candle and was sitting on the edge of the bed. As soon as he spotted me, he hurried over and cupped my cheeks in his hands.

“If you were just ten seconds later, I would have gone to look for you.”

It felt like I swallowed a thorn. It stung deep inside.

“Sherry woke up, so I put her to sleep and that’s why I was a little late coming back.”

“……”

“How long are you going to cling onto me? I’m tired. There’s no chance of getting lost inside the house, so why the fuss?”

“Did you cry?”

I nearly bit my tongue. His crimson eyes scrutinized my face intently. I pulled his hand down and quickly buried myself in the bed.

“Tears well up when I yawn. I’m dying of sleepiness, so stop bothering me.”

To convey the message of not disturbing my sleep, I flipped the blanket over my head. Kamian took a shallow breath and quietly slipped into the blanket. Thanks to my firm words, he didn’t attempt to speak.

However, I could tell that Kamian didn’t fall asleep until late dawn. His persistent gaze lingered on me for a long time, and I, too, stayed awake throughout the day until the rain ceased and the vivid dawn light flooded the room.

* * *

I found myself submerged in slumber, as if it were a time that could be called morning. A tender voice called out my name, accompanied by a gentle caress upon my face, prompting my heavy eyelids to lift.

Amidst the blurred expanse of drowsiness, I caught a glimpse of Kamian’s countenance. In the midst of my desire to continue sleeping a little longer, something grasped my eyes and forced them open and shut repeatedly.

“Where do you think you’re still sleeping?”

In an instant, an intense irritation surged within me. The tender emotions I had felt the previous night momentarily receded, and that bothersome individual seemed like an unyielding force of nature, disrupting my peaceful morning slumber.

I let out an exasperated sigh, shaking my head in protest. However, Kamian’s hand did not relent.

“Ah, let go.”
