Sitting there on Asras's lap, I could hear her and Lyra talking about something, but I wasn't paying attention; my mind was elsewhere. It felt strange being held by Asra like this. Not bad but strange. Before, I had been slightly taller than Asra. Now I felt so small in her arms.

For a long time, I had felt like I was too tall. I almost constantly felt slightly off balance because of it. I had never felt like I had fine control over my body, either. It was like I was always in a thick suit of plate armor.

I didn't know how to feel about my new height. The feeling of being off-balance was gone, so that's nice, at least.

I felt my body relax as a hand started petting my head. Without realizing it, my eyes closed, and I started pushing my head into the petting like a cat. It felt nice. I don't know how long the petting lasted.

When it stopped, there was a loud whine that definitely didn't come from me. Opening my eyes, I see and hear Asra and Lyra having fits of giggles. I absolutely was not pouting.

"You seemed to like that quite a bit. Maybe I'll use pets as a reward when you've been a good girl." Asra teased

My face burned at the thought of Asra calling me a good girl and petting my head. I felt strange; my whole body felt warmer.

Before I could get distracted, Asra spoke again. "I wanted to ask you something. Should we use the same pronouns for you, or do you want to try something different now that you're September?"

I hadn't thought about that. It was an easy question. All the same, I struggled to give my answer aloud. " I-I alred-dy t-told Lyra she can c-call me mom so..." I managed to stutter out nervously.

"You want to try she/her?" Asra asked warmly.

I managed to squeak out two words in response. "Yes, please."

"Good girl." Asra whispered in my ear.

My entire body felt like it was on fire. I felt a scream die in Asra's throat before she spoke. "Um, September, you're literally on fire right now, and for some reason, you're not burning me."

I jumped out of Asra's lap. Running to the kitchen sink, I fill a pot with water, Dumping it over my head.

As I returned to the living room, Asra and Lyra gave me concerned looks. Looking at Lyra, I spoke. "so, do you have any idea what that was? Is that like a Living Blade thing or..."

"That's a Living Blade thing. Sometimes, if we have high compatibility with someone, if you're touching and feeling strong emotions, it awakens special powers for the blade." Lyra said. "I've never experienced it personally, so I don't know all that much about it. The stories made it sound much harder to achieve, though."

"How much harder was it supposed to be?" I asked.

"According to the stories, it is supposed to be a near-death power-up kind of thing. Not something that triggers from mild teasing." Lyra answered.

"Oh." I said softly.

As I look around the living room, deciding where to sit, my eyes stop on Asra. She gives me a warm smile and pats her lap twice. I stared at the ground as I walked over to her.

"Do you want to sit on my lap again September?" Asra asked

Without looking up, I nodded my head. The next thing I knew, she had picked me up, and I was on her lap.

As I was getting comfortable, there was a knocking at the door. Lyra opened the door and stopped before bowing. Asra starts to stand as Princess Sofia steps through the door but stops as the princess motions for her to sit.

Lyra and Princess Sofia sit next to each other on one of the couches. Sofia gave me a once-over before she spoke. "So this cutie is the big bad Demon Blade. Well then, since Asra hasn't killed you yet, I'll assume you didn't turn into some kind of demon that wants to destroy the world."

She has a massive smile on her face as she continues. "Then we need to figure out what we're going to do with you. First, we need to get something with a glamor enchantment to hide your eyes. Then we need to talk to my sister and hope she decides to help us. But before any of that, we need to take care of the corpse."

I had been avoiding thinking about the corpse. I didn't want to leave it in the workshop, but the thought of getting rid of it made me feel uneasy. "Is it bad that a part of me wants to try cremating it with those flames from earlier?" I asked.

After a concerned Lyra explained to the princess how I caught fire after being teased by Asra, the princess looked at me with a devious smile. "I think we should see what happens."

I was a bit stunned that she had agreed so fast. I didn't even know why I had said it. The thought had only stuck in my mind for a moment, but something in me had liked the idea.

Looking at Lyra, she gives me a concerned look. " I don't like it, but if Asra agrees, I won't stop it."

Asra let out a loud sigh behind me. "All right, let's hope this works out then."

"Well, Asra, I think you should get her all warmed up then," Sophia teased.

On cue, Asra started petting my head. After losing myself to the pets, Asra whispered into my ear. "Good girl."

I felt the heat rush over my body as I ignited again. Standing up, I took Asra's hand and held it in mine. "We have to be touching for it to work, right?" I asked, tilting my head to the side slightly.

Giving me a warm smile, Asra followed me into the workshop. She stalled for a moment when she saw the corpse. Turning around, I tried to give Asra a reassuring smile.

When we got to the corpse, I knelt down and put my left hand on its head. The flames that surrounded my body lept onto the corpse. I stepped away as the flames devoured the corps.

Watching the corpse burn, I heard the voice of an ancient crone cut through my thoughts. "Let the old burn so the new may be nurtured in its ashes."

I let go of Asra's hand as I heard Princess Sophia's voice from the doorway. "That's quite the exciting power you've got there, September. Bursting into flames when you get teased. Quite the terrifying power for a Demon Blade." She teased.

I didn't pay much mind to her teasing. I was more interested in how quickly it was burning the corpse and the fact that there was no smell. I walked over to the corpse as the flames finished burning it.

I saw a glint of metal in the in the ashes. Reaching into the ashes, I grabbed the thin piece of metal and pulled it out. Looking at what I had retrieved from the ash, I found a large bodkin in my hand.

"What's that?" Asra asked.

"A bodkin. It's a tool for poking holes in leather or cloth mostly. This one is a bit larger than most I've worked with. It also has a file and would normally be paired with a hunting sword." I told her.

"Do you think your weapon form might be a hunting sword?" Asra asked, walking over to me.

"I think so. It's the kind of sword I saw while I was working." I answered.

Looking at Asra, I held out the bodkin. "Asra, I know you partnered with Lyra, but you're the only person I want to wield me."

I could have sworn there was a blush on Asra's face, but my attention was drawn to Lyra's voice. "I was waiting to tell you, but now might be the best time. I got my new job because Lady Sophia wanted to test me to be her partner by having me work with the princess guard."

While I was looking back and forth between Lyra and Princess Sophia, I felt the bodkin being removed from my hands. Shifting my gaze to Asra, she smiles at me with a warmth I can feel in my soul.

"I'll do my best to meet your expectations as your wielder, September," Asra said, bowing towards me. Before rising from the bow, She took my hand in hers and placed a kiss on the back of it.

My face felt like it was burning as I heard Princess Sophia speak from my side. "Be careful now, Asra, we don't want her igniting again." she teased.

gNatonthewall Hello, everyone. On the last chapter, I got a comment asking about Asra and September's heights. Afterward, I went back and left another reply, changing Asras Hight. I wanted to share that information here for those who might not have seen it. Asra is 5 foot 11 and a half, while September is 5 foot 3. Thank you for reading, favoriting, and commenting.
