Isaiah readied his new weapon in his right hand, a moonlight iron spear which was the prototype for a custom design Aalam was working on for him, and in his left was a matching moonlight iron shield, round with two indents on the sides. Then, when Diana said go, he activated Storm Steps at full power and charged through the air at Epecteos, fully boosted by Dragon Drive and Knight.
At the same time, Epecteos moved like the wind to attack him and Isaiah blocked it with his shield, activating Guardian through the artifact to completely stop Epecteos’s offensive skill. Isaiah then activated Power Attack and Epecteos was forced to bring back his sword to defend, using his earth element stance.
Epecteos was knocked back despite his best efforts and Isaiah pressed the attack, stabbing out two more times in rapid succession, his destruction and speed Laws both infused into his offense thanks to having reached level 6 in the Four Aspect Cycle, the cultivation technique Mila’d received for him from Nana Xara after she and Aalam completed the A rank’s quest by doing well in the Trial Tower.
The first stab knocked Epecteos’s weapon away and the second stab entered into his teacher’s heart.
“Yeah. That’s just not fair.” Epecteos looked down at his chest as Isaiah removed his spear point, the large wound almost instantly healing as Aalam, down below on the boat, temporarily released the soul shackles on his teacher’s Vitality stat. “I don’t think I can win anymore with my stats the same as yours. That racial ability especially is just unfair.”
It had been a couple years since Isaiah had started training with his teacher, and he had learned so much. At the same time, he had reached max level for F rank and was about ready to advance.

With Mila’s help acquiring lots of natural treasures to help boost his other base stats to match his Agility, especially his Magic, Spirit, and Soul, all his base stats were further improved by 100%, and the effect of that was huge.
With his greatly increased cultivation speed, he had also managed to purify his body from all contaminants contained in those natural treasures in just a matter of months, so he was now ready to advance.
Smiling, he stepped over and hugged Diana in excitement. Then he rushed down to the boat and opened up the System messages about his advancement options, completely ignoring the first five and selecting the Advanced Balanced Spear Knight class.

Tempest Steps was just like Storm Steps, but a bit more subtle, slightly more focused on sustained speed than rapid bursts. His advancements for Power Attack, Guardian, and Kinetic Senses were just straight up improvements, no real changes other than a higher stat to effectiveness ratio. And Dragon Drive, the only skill to not change its name on advancing grade, offered a higher percentage boost to his base stats than before for slightly less of a health cost.
The most important skill improvement, however, was Knight changing to Servant Knight. With this upgrade, he, like Mila, could receive free stats from the Alvaro siblings, and Aalam’s plan for him was to have all his stats maximized at E rank to allow for an alternate race advancement and D rank class, both of which would improve all his stats instead of just his base stats, something which really seemed to excite his friend.
“Congratulations.” Epecteos, who’d been guarding him with Aalam and Diana as he advanced, gave Isaiah a quick hug.
It was something the man did often whenever he was particularly proud of him, but it still meant the world.
“Yeah. Congratulations.” Diana grabbed his right hand and squeezed, then, letting go, she hurriedly took a few steps back, her face blushing for some reason.
Before he could try and figure out what her problem was, however, Aalam clapped him on the back and looked at Epecteos. “E rank is called the Mortal Shedding stage for a reason, right? So Isaiah’s true hell training starts now?”
Epecteos burst out laughing. “Yes.” Then he looked pointedly at Aalam, smiling a tad predatorily. “And you can look forward to yours as well.”
“Um,” Aalam said hurriedly, moving quickly toward the teleportation platform. “I have to go build something.”
“And I have a meeting I’m late for.”
Diana for some reason also made a quick excuse to leave, and Epecteos burst out laughing again.
“You have a good group, Isaiah.” He turned to look at Isaiah and his tone became more serious. “Make sure you value and protect them.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Alright then.” Epecteos stretched his upper body, drew his longsword, and then summoned two short blades out of his spatial storage ring which started to float around his upper body. “While you were advancing, Aalam loosened my soul shackles to the point that, even with your crazy racial ability, our stats match. Before we were just establishing your foundation. Your true training starts now.”
With that, he took off into the sky, and, grinning to himself, Isaiah stepped into the air to follow.
