Chapter 5: Over the Wall (1)

The eastern suburbs had a small population, so the nightlife was naturally not as exuberant as the urban areas. At that same time, it was a few minutes into the morning. Apart from the occasional flashing of the poorly installed streetlights, there was not a single soul on the road for quite some time

Whoosh …

In the courtyard next to the old Mi residence, a whirlwind suddenly stirred against the flat ground, blowing up a few fallen leaves. A vine emerged out of the ground and grew rapidly, morphing into a shape of a human in the blink of an eye. The final transformation was a man dressed in a traditional Chinese outfit, but the style was obviously modernized, giving it that east-meets-west feel.

The man stood still in place and patted his unwrinkled clothing. As he was about to walk towards the main building, he suddenly turned to look towards the wall on his right.

Heave Ho …

A fat figure had just reached the top of the wall, gasping for air. It was obvious that the body was too heavy, and was tired out from climbing the wall.

The man narrowed his eyes and watched silently.

“Looks like that I have to grant the late owner’s last wishes and lose weight, otherwise wall climbing in the future… wheeze … is going to limit my mobility.” Mi Wan took a breath and was about to jump over when she suddenly realized a tall and slender man was staring at her expressionlessly.

This person was stunning. Mi Wan grew up training at a young age and never read enough books, so she did not know the words that could be used to describe this kind of beauty. She randomly recalled a time when she was a child, her master had said: “Wanwan, generally speaking, the more powerful the demon is, the more attractive it looks.”

Mi Wan had seen many varieties of demons, and there were also very powerful but ugly monsters, such as the tiger demon she caught before. However, this man in front of her was the perfect example of her master’s words. Powerful and beautiful.

The man’s surrounding demonic aura was like seaweed in the deep sea, stretching out densely. Sparks of brilliant light filled the center of the demonic aura, preventing her from discerning his original form. Mi Wan subconsciously evaluated the enemy’s strength. Without her sacred weapon at hand, she could not defeat this big demon with her bare hands.

“Ahem… Sir, I’m not here to catch demons. I climbed over the wall so I could go out to eat instant noodles, and lose weight in the process.” This was an example of picking your battles. It was obvious she was not going to win in a fight. After going through all that effort to come back to life, she couldn’t just die in the same way she did five hundred years ago.

Besides, despite his powerful demonic aura, this big demon in front of her lacked hostility. Furthermore, this present world was not the same as it was five hundred years ago, where humans and demons were at odds. Mi Wan also did not naturally enjoy killing demons.

Not here to catch demons? Does this mean she could see through his cover?

Fan Chen, who had never had his identity exposed, looked at the fat girl on the top of the wall with an even more complicated expression. He was certain that this human girl had not made it over the wall when he transformed into his mortal shell, so she could not have seen it. Therefore, she must really be able to see the demonic power on his body.

When did the Demon Hunter Association acquire such a capable demon hunter?

“So, I thought there was no one next door.”

Seeing that the demon guy did not respond, Mi Wan weakly explained herself again. She had observed this courtyard. It was next to her house. The door to the courtyard was tightly shut when she came, and there was no apparent person in sight. Well, she was right about there being no people, but there was one demon. She couldn’t discern the demon’s original form for a while because his demonic aura was so powerful, but it was clear that the demon was not in his best condition. Right now, his body was injured.

Who knows which big demon he ended up in an internal scuffle with, but there was a fist-sized hole in his chest that looked dark and unsettling.

Since Mi Wan did not perceive the spiritual power of a demon hunter on the wound, it was obviously not caused by a demon hunter, so she assumed it was a result of infighting amongst demons.

“So you decide to climb over my wall because no one’s at home?” Fan Chen finally spoke, his cold tone rang like zither strings in the middle of the night.

“I’m sorry, I’ll climb over another wall.” Mi Wan remained polite. There were four sides of the wall, in all cardinal directions, there had to be one that she could climb over.

“You’re a demon hunter?” Fan Chen stopped a certain someone who was in the middle of twisting their butt and about to jump back and asked to confirm.

“Uh-huh.” Mi Wan nodded.

“It’s rare to find a demon hunter in today’s world. Which sect do you belong to?”

“I’m from the wild.” If it were five hundred years ago, she would have definitely belonged to a sect, and at the time, it was considered the best and most famous sect for demon hunters. But in the present day, as someone who was carrying the shell of the previous host, her origins were technically from the wild.

Fan Chen took a look over at Mi Wan, thinking she was unwilling to reveal her sect but did not question any further. Instead, he turned heel and continued to walk towards the main building.

Does this mean he’s agreed to let her pass through, or does he not agree?

Mi Wan watched the empty courtyard, paused for about two or three seconds, and then swung her butt around and jumped down.

He didn’t drive her away, so she assumed his silence was consent. Mi Wan made a sound to herself, ran to the entrance of the courtyard with her fat stubby legs, opened the door, and boldly left the premises.
