Chapter hundred and three: A million dreams.

Rachael made sure the dress was perfectly stringed before she allowed the queen access to the mirror. She had a worried look that Jamie couldn't help but notice. Her furrowed brows and the pouted lips were great indicators. Her hair was a little bit messy with only a scarf keeping it in place. The brown colored dress looked roughed like she wore it in a hurry.

Jamie would have ignored it except Rachael kept glancing to the door.

"Rachael, what is going on?" Jamie questioned as soon as Rachael gave her some shoes to put on.

Rachael stopped what she was doing. She turned and faced the Queen. For some reason, she felt like she could talk to the Queen. She moved closer and grabbed the queen's dress and immediately, her knee went to the floor. She blinked to keep the tears from flowing.

"You can change the king's mind, can't you your majesty?"

Jamie was taken aback by the bizarre behavior.

"What is wrong, Rachael? Why does the king need changing of his mind... speak at once" Jamie asked the girl.

"The King is going to kill Sir Luther!" Rachael told her.

Jamie of course didn't believe her. Judd was his lead knight and Alexander would never maim or kill him.

"Why would the king kill his shadow knight? It's absurd and frankly, I don't appreciate you saying that about my husband. He is not a monster" Jamie felt herself get angry at the girl. She was fed up of people drawing conclusions about Alexander... people like her that would take one look at him and conclude he was a monster.

Rachael didn't let go of the dress. She knew deep down, the queen was capable of overturning Judd's fate.

"Well the king might not have a choice but to set an example for other kingdoms with Judd as the scapegoat" the next part had her in tears "Judd attacked the Queen of Koi and the king is going to demand for his head"

Jamie dashed out of her chambers leaving Rachael behind. She needed to find the king and stop the madness before it brewed.

Where could the king be?

Jamie thought maybe he would be either in the court or his chamber but the thorough checking of both places proved unfruitful. Jamie picked up her dress and she almost raced to Eileen's room. When she entered, Eileen was there with Rosemund.

Eileen sat by the window and she stared out of it while Rosemund paced the room. Jamie wondered for a split second how she was able to move with such speed and accuracy in such a tight blue dress.

Jamie stared at both ladies for a moment, none in a hurry to acknowledge her presence.

Jamie closed the door behind her. Was she supposed to cough before the crown princess stopped pacing or the queen stopped staring at emptiness?

"What is going on, here? What is this whole ruckus I am hearing about sir Judd attacking you, Queen Eileen?" Jamie asked when it became apparent that none of them was forthcoming with an explanation.

Eileen shook her head. Rosemund didn't spare her a glance.

"Someone please fill me in! Why would Judd attack you Eileen? He is Judd! He grunts and he is near impossible to have a conversation with but he is Judd. He protects. Why by the tooth of Thor would he attack you?"

Eileen whispered something Jamie couldn't make out while she stared out the window.

Jamie moved closer to her.

"He didn't attack me. He was just taking me to my Chamber" Eileen explained.

Rosemund stopped and flashed eyes filled with fury at both women.

"I think they are better ways to walk a Queen to her chamber that doesn't include your feet up in the air!"

Jamie ignored the temperamental princess.

"What happened?" She asked the Queen.

"I was taking a walk in the garden and Sir Fredrick approached me and we talked till Sir Judd appeared out of nowhere and ordered him away..."

Jamie interrupted her. The long story was getting on her nerve.

"Then he attacked you?"

"Of course not! Jamie we just argued and then I dared him to pick me up and force me to my room. I had no idea he was going to do that or that the rest of Derkal's royalties would be there to see us. It was harmless gesture" Eileen told Jamie.

Jamie felt a wave of relief go through her. It wasn't a crime punishable by death. It would just take some explanation and then everything would be alright.

"We can solve this. It's not a life or death situation"

"Well, thanks to you it is. Your attack makes it impossible for the king to brush it off without looking like he was retaliating for your attack"

Jamie wondered how the conversation came to be focused on her. She was her sister in law but sometimes, Jamie would like a moment to smack her around.

"So, you are saying it is my fault, your royal highness?"

"Yes" Rosemund refused to back down "Yes, It is your fault. Maybe your shouldn't wander off into a dark forest alone and leave yourself open for attack"

Jamie had about had enough from her nosy big mouthed sister in law but this wasn't the right time to address the problem Rosemund had with her. Not when Judd's life was in Jeopardy.

"Princess Rosemund, stop... it's not Queen's Janessa's fault. It was just unfortunate turn of event" Eileen tried to put out the fire between the sisters.

Jamie tried to push the anger she felt for Rosemund aside. She had more important matters to attend to.

"I have to find the king and have a word with him"

She turned to leave when she heard Rosemund's voice. "Good luck finding my brother; he is on the hunting ground with the rest of the hunting party"

Even though Jamie stopped, she didn't say anything to her remark. She simply walked out of Eileen's chamber.

Jamie knew it then, she had to find a way to get herself to the hunting grounds. She only had one problem- it was forbidden for a woman to attend.

It was a man's life and rules were meant to be broken. Jamie needed help and who would want to help more than the girl that told her about it in the first place. She needed Rachael's help.

Jamie turned to the manservant that bowed and walked past her. "Find Rachael and tell her I need her"

"Yes, your majesty"

*****

Rachael made sure the cloak concealed her. She knew exactly where the man she was looking for was and she was ready to confront him.

She followed the small path at the eastern part of the castle to the Knight's training ground. The trick to finding the man she loved was following an even smaller trail by her left, half way to the training ground. She clutched the small basket she was holding and walked as fast as her little legs could carry her.

When she saw him, he had his back to her and she could hear that he was sharpening his sword.

Judd appeared oblivious of his present company or so Rachael thought till he spoke to her without turning.

"You should not be taking that lonely path alone, Rachael. It was a mistake to have showed you this place"

Rachael ignored the last remark and set the basket down. She started checking to be sure everything was intact before she approached him.

"I have everything you need to survive a few days out there when you leave the west. I have food, water, clothes...."

"Rachael" Judd called out her name but she kept talking.

"...and blankets....I couldn't get more portion except for pain and ache but you have to..."

"Rachael!" He tried to get her attention.

"If you leave now, you can be out of the west by tomorrow..."

"Rachael! I am not going!" Judd yelled this time around "I am not leaving the king's side"

Rachael moved closer and grabbed his hand and started to pull him towards the exit except he didn't bulge.

"Come on! Stand up...run. You have to run Judd. Just go and don't look back" She was close to tears as she pulled the knight.

"Rachael! You are going to hurt yourself. I am not going. I am the king's shadow. It's a commitment that is for life. Go home!" Judd took her hand away.

Rachael looked like she had been punched. She staggered a little bit before she regained balance.

She started pulling him again with all her strength now. If she could pick him up and carry him out of the west she would but he was thrice her size and twice her height. She was defeated.

Judd was getting angry by her persistence. He just wanted a little peace. He turned and took his hand away again.

His lips pulled together before he spoke.

"Go home, little girl. That I shared a drunken kiss with you once doesn't give you a say in my life"
