Chapter hundred and twenty one: Things we find

Alexander stared at her with such intensity that it made the princess uncomfortable.

"Do you hear me, Rose? I know all about protection. I have been doing that for you all my life. I am a good brother, I would kill for you and I would die for you too, little sister. But what makes you think it is okay to take advantage of that strong feeling I feel towards you and toy with them. Nice job, Rose. You would make a great Queen someday. You found my weakness and you used it against me"

Alexander let her go before she could say a word or before he would do something he will regret later.

Rosemund grabbed his hand and brought it to her face. She allowed her tears to wet his hand. She cried for a few seconds as she pleaded for his forgiveness.

"I am sorry. I was just trying to protect you"

Alexander looked away briefly. He has always hated seeing her cry. It always made his world spin backwards. Always distracted him and make have the urge to give her the world. The urge to make everything better.

But not this time, He was going to arm her with the truth instead.

"Protecting someone means stabbing yourself so you don't have to kill their yapping little dog and lying to your father afterwards. But maybe you did me a favor, sister. Like you said Janessa didn't love me, I just wished I didn't spend half my time wondering if my sister had betray me for the past week and I might have noticed that Judd never made it to the kingdom of Koi"

Turning around, Alexander left her.

Rosemund followed him right behind. Alexander might not be ready to hear her apology but she was still worried about Judd and she needed answers.

"Alexander, are you going after Judd and the Queen?"

"Rosemund, at this moment I am not your brother. I am the bloody King of the west. I don't have time to hold your hand!" Alexander didn't stop walking and so did Rosemund.

"I don't need my hand to be held, your highness. I am not a little child but I am however the crown princess and issues concerning the West is my business"

Alexander stopped and looked at her. "Fine, Judd and his wife left Aradale a week ago and they never made it to Koi. Their coach was found dead, it looked like an ambush and now I have to do something about it if you would excuse me"

Rosemund lowered her head in submission; after all, he was the king.

"Yes your highness"

Sir Walters made it all the way to the southern hemisphere and to the valley where the former Queen and lady's maid were being held hostage. He came alone like they requested.

After the message came to Alexander that the Janessa had been captured, he sent a message ahead. It was a warning. The Queen must be unharmed and safely returned without a scratch or their heads would decorate the walls of Aradale.

Sir Walters watched keenly as three bandits approached him. He could see them dragging two young women but their faces were covered. One appeared unconscious.

"I have your gold. Now, set them free" Walters's voice was steady and calm. It wasn't how he felt inside. He would have loved nothing more than to draw his sword and cut them down one by one for daring to keep his Queen captive.

But his orders were clear. The King wanted him to deliver the gold coins without any incidence and he plans on obeying the king. He could always come back for revenge.

"Hand the gold coins over, Lad"

Sir Walters chose to let being called a lad go. His priority was clear. Retrieve the king's wife without incident.

"Not until you hand over the Queen of the west and her companion" Sir Walters insisted.

"How about I stab them and then take the gold from you!" The lead bandit told him.

Semeen kept her distance from the Knights with the two wolves that stood behind her. She was the backup plan. She was all too willing to take her betas when the king had asked. Semeen would do anything to protect the Luna.

She watched keenly waiting for the bandit to attack but instead she saw Sir Walters handing the gold over to the bandit.

Semeen took a deep breath and asked the other wolves to stay put. Then she saw the bandit hand over Jamie and Ursla to Sir Walters.

He pulled off the hoods on the heads. Jamie was half beaten to death and she could barely stand up. Walters caught her before her body could reach the ground.

He lifted her up like she was a box of dry sticks and he kept his eyes on the leader bandit.

"King Alexander sent a message ahead asking for no harm to befall the Queen" Walters voice was cold...too cold.

"Seems like one of my men didn't get the message, lad"

There it was again, it was the second time he had called him lad and giving the fact that he was holding a woman he took an oath to die for and she looked half dead, it was like tipping the scale from bad to disaster. But he was a knight and he wasn't allowed to disobey a direct order.

Ursla was on her feet. She stared at the bandit leader with eye shooting darts like if she had the magical powers she would use them to snap his neck.

"You got the king's message yet you beat her. You are a beast"

As soon as Walters heard what Ursla said, his hands tightened around Jamie. He blinked as if it would refocus his mind. He watched as the leader bandit shrugged and then he spoke.

"Alexander might be King in the west but he isn't my King. He doesn't give the demands, I do" the leader bandit said with a smug face.

"Thank you" Walters said loud enough for him to hear.

The leader bandit was taken aback. He didn't understand one bit why Walters would thank him.

"Why are you thanking me?"

"You will know soon enough" Walters turned and walked away. But he found comfort in the fact that the man just signed his death warrant.

Walters turned and walked away but he faced a dilemma immediately she helped Jamie onto a horse. His orders were to leave them and return to Aradale but his conscious prevented him from leaving a woman half beaten to death in the same hemisphere that harmed her.

"What is it?" Ursla asked him.

"Nothing" Walters murmured but Ursla was good at reading people.

"It's alright brave knight. I am quite capable of nursing her back to health. We've done that for each other most of our lives" Ursla moved closer to take Jamie from him but Walters refused.

"No. She needs a physician and without one is will die. But I can only one horse. Can you find your way to Aradale, Milady?"

"I am no Lady but yes. Save Jamie, brave knight"

Sir Walters dropped a bag on the ground for her.

Ursla watched as Walters rode off towards the West. She picked up the bag and it contained some food, silver pennies and some clothes too. She was grateful and by sunset tomorrow she should be in Aradale.

Semeen watched from a distance. She wondered if she should offer the girl help. She could get a horse for her but she wasn't sure whether Ursla was a friend or foe. The Queen wasn't conscious enough to indicate either.

So, Transforming into a werewolf with the rest of her travel companions, she raced back to the Western hemisphere.

When Walters got back to the castle carrying the injured Queen, he expected to see Alexander waiting for them but he was gone. He was left to deal with Rosemund and Semeen.

"Did the king ask for her to be brought here?" Rosemund asked with a panicked face.

"No. But she is going to die without proper care. I had no choice"

"Well, she may still die if the king declares her wanted for treason that took place the night we were attacked" Rosemund explained.

Semeen cleared her throat intentionally to get Rosemund's attention.

"But my brother is not here. He is on his way to the kingdom of Koi. If we hurry, we can nurse Janessa back to health now" Rosemund concluded and pointed Walters towards the court physician.

They were beginning to draw attention to themselves with Walters carrying an unconscious woman.

The physician treated Jamie of the injuries she sustained without asking questions. Semeen tended to her while Rosemund conducted kingdom affairs in the absence of her brother.

She was half through the scroll Jared, the royal councilor submitted to her when she heard a voice behind her. She recognized the voice. It belonged to her brother. It belonged to the king that might be so angry; it was possible he would order for the execution of the former Queen.

Rosemund turned abruptly and stared at his blue eyes.

"I can explain" She whispered.
