Chapter hundred and forty one: Our future

Alexander wanted to say more but he felt like someone was shaking him.

"What is happening?" He asked no one in particular.

"My guess... someone found your unconscious body and is trying to wake you up. It's alright you will wake up any moment…" Before Red could finish talking, Alexander disappeared.

Alexander met Semeen and the others, they were trying to wake Janessa too but she didn't open her eyes.

She was trapped in Red's head.

Alexander lifted her up and took her back to the horse. Without saying a word to the people behind them, he rode back to Namura.

The king made her comfortable on the bed. He used wet linen to wipe her face and to keep her burning body from overheating.

His plan was simply, if Janessa didn't wake up before morning, he was going to race back to the isle of the blessed and capture the woman in red and then force her to bring his wife back to him.

Throughout the night, he took care of her all the while fighting the demons in his head and ears.

***

Jamie was alarmed. Alexander was there with her one moment and the next he was gone. She panicked and grabbed the woman in red's hand.

"What have you done to my husband?" Jamie asked her. She was close to reaching out and ripping out red's throat.

"Calm yourself, mistress. The man you love is safe and back in the castle. See for yourself!"

The woman in red pointed toward the oak tree and Jamie moved closer to stare at it. It didn't even occur to her that it was ridiculous.

Jamie saw Alexander taking care of her while he wrapped his ears with a scarf like he was trying to make himself deaf on purpose.

"He is a good man. The best of his kind and he loves me...not the ideal version of an Eastern princess but me, the plain trouble causing menace. So, Red...if you know how to save him I suggest you tell me" Jamie said with passion.

The woman in Red nodded like she understood exactly what Jamie was saying but in truth, she was just acknowledging that she had a cure.

"We will get to the cure that you seek, Mistress"

Jamie nodded. She was grateful.

"This thing that I am….what else can I do? Do I have any other abilities to look forward to?" Jamie was curious about herself.

"No. You can conjure up spells like any other witch and control monsters but that's about it all" Red answered.

"Are you sure?" Jamie asked her.

"You are stronger than other witches, you can undo spells cast by other witches that are not your kind like you did with the Queen but Beth didn't have other abilities...so neither should you"

Red watched her with curiosity

"You are special, aren't you Jamie? Naturally, a first born daughter inherits a Witch's powers and in rare cases, a first born son. Sometimes, it skips an entire generation but you are Beth's third born child yet you inherited it. It's quite extraordinary"

"But I have another ability, Red. I can see the past, especially a person's worst and lowest moment. Maybe, you are mistaken" Jamie told her.

If she had the ability then it was possible her mom had it too. Everyone makes a mistake including a witch in red with the ability to talk to someone in their dream.

Jamie saw as Red's face changed again.

"Are you sure?"

"I am sure" Jamie answered.

The woman in Red turned her back to Jamie like she didn't want her to see the look on her face.

"What is it?" Jamie queried

"Your father, Elijah...he was rumoured to be odd-"

"Odd? What do you mean?" Jamie was getting confused by the minute.

"He wasn't normal. I never met him but Elijah wasn't... human. Maybe you got vision from him" Red grabbed Jamie's hand "You must be careful. If you got your vision from him then it can't be good. He is bad news... rotten to the core and corrupts every clean thing he comes in contact with"

"You make him sound like a demon" Jamie had a look on her face.

"He is something much worse. If you have questions, then ask because it's almost morning" Red told her.

"It can't be morning. I just got here" Jamie complained.

"Time works differently here, Janessa"

"Where can I find my mother?"

"Give it time, unfortunately I have a feeling she will find you"

Jamie had more questions but she pushed it aside. She needed a cure for the king of the western hemisphere.

"Tell me how to merge the king and his wolf!" Jamie asked her.

"You don't want to do that!" Red said.

"Why not?" Jamie asked her.

"You are not asking the right questions Jamie" Red told her. She moved closer and looked straight into her eyes.

"Is it not obvious that I don't know the question?" Jamie was getting agitated like a spooked tigress

"But you do…. Ask!"

Jamie searched her head for the question but she had a million questions and yet she suspected it wasn't the right one.

Then it clicked.

"What is my fate? No!" It wasn't the right question.

"You are waking up. He is trying to wake you up. Ask the question...now, Jamie...now"

"What is my destiny in the west? Why was i destined to be Alexander's wife?"

The woman in red looked at her and blinked. The question was correct.

"Why else, Jamie? You are destined to kill the King!"

Jamie gasped. The woman was lying to her, Jamie tried to convince herself of it but why would Red lie to her.

Jamie took a deep breath, she had one more answer to get from her.

"Tell me how to save the king!"

"Jamie, I just told you-"

"I don't care. If it's Destiny then it can be changed. Answer my question" Jamie demanded.

Red moved closer and whispered it into her ear. Jamie could feel someone shaking her violently now.

"Be careful. There is a reason it's your destiny" Red warned her.

"Bugger off, the choice I make from here on out determines my destiny. Fate might be set in stone but destiny isn't. I love Alexander-"

Jamie gasped and her eyes opened. She was back in the castle.

Jamie blinked and tried to adjust her vision to the sunlight coming from the window. At first everything was blurry like she was staring through a wet glass but with a little time everything became clearer.

The first thing she saw was Alexander's face. The circle under his eyes and his stooped posture.

"Hey" Jamie murmured.

"Hey, sweetheart" Alexander pushed some rogue strands of hair out of her face.

"I didn't mean to worry you. I am sorry" Jamie touched his cheek and rubbed it.

"It's fine. All that matters is that you are alright"

Jamie sat upright with a smile.

"I found a cure…"

"I am not willing to part with Max, Janessa" Alexander interrupted her by saying.

"I am not looking to change you, darling. I don't think I have told you this but...you are perfect, Alexander. You are perfect just the way you are...both of you are and I am not looking to change it." Jamie told him.

Her face was a little teary and Alexander noticed.

"What is it? What is wrong, sweetheart?" Alexander ran his finger across her forehead.

Jamie blinked and smiled. "Everything is perfect. Red taught me how to make a portion that will permanently take the curse away. You and Max will be one"

Jamie expected Alexander to be happy, over the moon but he just looked the same.

"What's the catch?" Alexander asked her instead.

"No catch. We struck the gold mine!" Jamie was ecstatic. "You will have your life back and you will make a difference in the world, Alexander"

Jamie watched him. Still, there were no changes and Jamie wanted to know why.

"Why aren't you happy?" Jamie asked him.

"This curse has been in my generation for as long as time itself and you are telling me there is no big sacrifice that is required to break it?" Alexander didn't believe her.

"I am a white witch, remember? A beast mistress...I am not a low class witch. I am special, that is why it is simply" Jamie spoke convincingly to him.

"Okay. Then it's good news, my love" Alexander smiled too but it didn't quite reach her eyes.

"But I have a condition, Alexander"

"Alright...what do you want?"

"I want to do the binding ceremony with you. I want to be yours in every way... legally and physically" Jamie said and touched his lips. "I know you think I will make a bad mother but-"

"No, you will make the best mother. You are kind, selfless with a little touch of selfishness. You will be a great mother. I am sorry I said you weren't good enough before. That was my insecurities talking" Alexander kissed her forehead.

"Then it is settled. We will do the binding ceremony when we get back home and the rest later" Jamie cleared her throat "I am hungry and thirsty, do you think you can get someone to do something about it?"

Alexander nodded. He pulled the blanket over her body and walked out.

As soon as the door closed, Jamie pulled the blanket over her head and she sobbed like she had never before.

The future wasn't great for their love story.
