Chapter hundred and fifty two: Nowhere to hide.

Judd turned around towards the voice. Like he expected and anticipated it was no other than the crown princess.

He wanted to move closer but somehow, he ended up taking a step back.

She was an unwed princess, the king's sister and the future heir to the throne and he was a knight, swore to protect the said throne. It was the definition of improper, even worse than the Queen offering to make him an undergarment when she first got here.

She was an unwed girl and he was a married man. And she was sitting on his bed.

"Your royal highness" Judd bowed to her.

Again, he took a step back.

Judd knew Rosemund well enough, she was uncontrollable when angry or spited. She had attacked the king severally with anything she could get her hands on, on several occasions in private.

In public, she gave him the silent treatment until she could attack him later.

Alexander worshiped his little sister, always indulging her every whim. It was why she had a strong footing in the council. Why her orders carry as much weight as the king's, but if Judd was being fair then he would admit that the crown princess was brilliant and she was a capable leader if she could control her outburst when she is angry. And she was his sister.

"Princess Rosemund" Judd muttered again when it looked like it was taking her eternity to respond.

He looked around the room taking notes of objects that would do harm to him if the crown princess got a hold of it. There were plenty.

Rosemund stood up and matched close to him.

He could see the way her lips twitch a little bit and her nostrils flared that she was angry. She must have been crying not too long ago too. He expected thunder, he expected lightning. What he didn't expect was for her to turn around after saying "Screw you, Luther Judd"

Judd was taken aback. He could handle the tantrums but this particular behavior puzzled him.

"That's it?" He asked her.

Rosemund stopped and turned around to face him. "I learnt the hard way that blood doesn't necessarily make people family. You don't want to be my brother? Then I don't want to be your bloody sister either. So, yeah...fuck you!"

Rosemund opened the door and left. Judd sat on the bed after he placed his sword above the fireplace.

Soon, he was lying down trying to forget the sound of her voice and the look in her eyes.

"She is not my problem! She is not my sister! She is not my problem!" He must have chanted it for about two minutes before he stood up and went after her.

Rosemund made her into the garden. She asked one of the knights to keep people that aren't the royal family away from the garden for the duration she was going to be there, not that any other kind of people dared enter the garden on any given day.

Instead of sitting on the wooden chair there, she went ahead to sit under a tree.

She pulled her legs up and she buried her face in her thighs.

She let herself go. The sobs rip through her like a vibrating earthquake. She was mourning the brother she had and was going to lose, maybe the brother she never had that didn't want her, just like their father.

Rosemund first heard some dry leaves breaking before she felt the presence of someone beside her.

At first, she thought it was Alexander. She lifted her face to tell him to leave her alone but it wasn't the king.

"Are you alright?" Judd asked her. He was sitting on the ground beside her.

"Do I look alright to you?! I told that knight not to allow anyone inside the garden!" Rosemund wiped her face vigorously.

"That knight works for me, Princess"

Judd gave the white linen he was holding to her and she used it to wipe her face.

"Talk to me... sister"

Even as Judd called her that, it felt weird and strange on his tongue. He was an only child, he never had any siblings before Darius blew up his world.

"Alexander is going crazy. He is going to turn into Papa and kill a bunch of people if he is not stopped. And so, this brother that has protected me all my life…" fresh batch of tears emerged on her face.

"This brother that I love more than anyone in the whole world, he plans on living the rest of his life in a silver cage. Do you know how that makes me feel? I get to keep the crown of Aradale and he keeps the curse. It's bloody unfair!" Rosemund wiped her face again.

"No...no, I guess the king forgot to tell you that the Queen found a portion that would lift the curse and merge them" Judd reassured her with a smile.

Rosemund looked at him and shook his head.

"The Queen lied. There is no portion"

"But she said she can fix him!" Judd was getting agitated.

"She can. But the only way to lift a curse cast by a dying person is…. Jamie would have to die too. The red witch told her that she would bind herself to my brother and that's why Jamie is insisting on performing the binding ritual with Alexander, then when they are finally intimate with each other, as Alexander…. The blood that comes out the first time, merges Alexander and his wolf. It's fatal to the Queen. Alexander won't do it"

Judd was silent.

He couldn't fault Alexander for protecting his bride, he would too if it was life or death between Eileen and himself but it wasn't something he was comfortable with.

Rosemund stared out to a distance for a couple of minutes before she turned and looked at Judd.

"We have to get Alexander drunk, we have to let Jamie go ahead with her plan of tricking him into sleeping with her. She made the choice. You have to help me, Judd. He is your brother too" Rosemund was hysterical as she talked.

She grabbed Judd's hand and she tried to shake him but he was too large for her to shake but it didn't stop Rosemund from trying.

"I will get the wine and we will make him drink it until he is unable to think straight. Then Jamie will go in with him and she will perform her wifely function just like the gods and goddesses intended for marriage. She will heal my brother-"

Rosemund was interrupted by Judd.

"But she will die, Rosemund. We would have killed the woman Alexander was in love with. He would never forgive you, do you understand that?" Judd asked her.

He wanted her to know the consequences of her actions.

"Fine! I don't need his forgiveness. I just need him to be alive and not inside a cage!" The princess's mind was made up.

"Even if you don't help me, I will do it on my own Luther"

They both heard footsteps and they looked up. Alexander was standing there.

"Your highness" Judd called out to him but he didn't stand up.

He waited for Alexander to get angry. Judd knew he heard Rosemund's plans. He expected the king to yell and threaten their little sister but he didn't.

Instead he lowered himself to the ground and he cupped her cheeks.

"You are going to be fine without me, Rose. You are the strongest person I know" Alexander reassured her with a smile.

"I won't be, Alexander" Rosemund shook her head.

"But you will be, little one. You will be Alpha and Queen, and you will be great at it. And I know that Luther acts tough and unaffected but he will be there for you, right Luther" Alexander asked him.

"Yes" Judd murmured.

"You see, you won't be alone. You, Jamie and Luther, you will be fine without me. And you can come visit me in the cage, I won't promise to not to try and eat you but hey! No brother is perfect" Alexander tried to make a joke.

"And I am not going into the cage anytime soon, I have a couple of months... maybe years before I lose my mind. You are alright... Rosemund, look at me"

Alexander waited until she was looking him straight in the eyes before he told her again. "You will be just fine"

Rosemund turned and buried her face in Judd's chest.

He was awkward about it at first, he even looked at Alexander for help.

"She is your sister. It's okay to be human around her, Judd" Alexander said with a chuckle.

Slowly, Judd wrapped his arms around her and soothed her until she stopped sobbing.

The three of them sat under the tree for a very long time and for the first time in years, Judd felt like he had a family again.

He felt like things were going to get easier except it wasn't going to be.

The future was far from bright.
