Chapter hundred and seventy three: Nowhere else to look.

"Red, this is the part where you tell me everything or I kill you and release myself" Jamie said in a calm voice.

She remembered that time worked differently there. A minute here was an hour in the real world and she needed to find her husband before it was too late.

"I told the Queen of Koi that she could siphon about a tiny portion of your life force and she did. The link will sever eventually as soon as it gives Luther Judd about 50 years of your life" Red answered with a smile.

"How is that good news? I am nineteen years old, going on to twenty and an average person in Derkal lives up to a hundred. Giving my brother in law 50 years, leaves me with just 30 years, Fool" Jamie was uneasy. She really needed to get out of here and go back to the real world.

She could always kill Red later.

"Oh yes, sorry, I should have told you earlier that a beast mistress has a life force thrice stronger than humans. On average, they live for about three hundred years with the right magic spells of course. So giving Luther 50 years leaves you with 250 years at least!" Red quickly explained.

Jamie exhaled. It was the second best news she wanted to hear. Finding a way to give Judd back his Life.

"That I am not dying doesn't make what you and Eileen did alright. Send me back to the real world and try to stay away from me. And repurpose your spell, Judd can have exactly 75 years from me" Jamie told her.

She was impatient and she didn't wait around for Red to wake her.

"Wake up, Jamie!"

She yelled and everywhere became brighter again.

When she came too, she was in a carriage with Ursla and Semeen. They looked happy to see her.

Jamie rubbed her head. She must have heard a nasty fall when Red pulled her into the dream world.

"Luna!"

"Jamie!"

Jamie looked at the two women she had come to trust more than anybody and she had a million and one questions.

"How long was I out for?" Jamie was right, the fall from the horse was nasty and she had a bump on the side of the head to prove it.

"We found you lying on the ground, you must have been thrown by your horse a few hours ago" Semeen answered.

She looked like she was trying to conceal something from Jamie.

"Exactly, how long was I out?" Jamie asked again "shouldn't you be leading the search in the remaining villages of the southern hemisphere, Semeen?"

The carriage jolted and came to a stop.

"We are here" Ursla said and opened the door.

"Where is here?" Jamie asked but she stepped down.

She was near the stairs of the castle and the entire royal family was there waiting for her. Rosemund, Judd, Duke Aniston, lord Melvin and many more people Jamie couldn't bother remembering their name. They all looked at her with pity filled eyes like she was poor orphan Annie and she just lost her puppy dog.

"How long was I out for?" Jamie grabbed Ursla's hand roughly.

"Almost a full day…it took us a while to find you" Ursla answered.

Rosemund and Judd were coming down the stairs to meet her, when Jamie quickly asked.

"You searched the entire villages in the south already, didn't you?" Jamie asked but she was looking at Semeen.

"Yes. Alexander is nowhere to be found. Which leaves one explanation, Queen Jamie" Rosemund asked in a shaky voice.

"Exactly! It leaves one explanation. The wolves did a bad job looking for the man I am going to spend the rest of my life with. I guess my papa was right. If you want something done right, do it yourself"

Jamie turned around and she raced to a horse and mounted it. She raced off towards the south.

Where everyone else failed, she won't.

"Judd, Semeen, Ursla…go after her and please, bring her back safe. Believe it or not, she is the only thing of Alexander, I have left" Rosemund instructed them but when she turned around to make sure they heard her. They were already halfway to their horses.

They didn't need her orders after all.

Jamie didn't slow down. The journey to the southern hemisphere would roughly take about three hours on a fast horse, she made it in two and a half, which wasn't bad for an amateur horse rider.

She searched for the Alpha King for quite some time, she didn't speak to anyone and no one spoke to her.

The castles of the last king to fall by her brother's sword was the last place left to look for him.

But she didn't search for him there, she already knew that Alexander was lost to her and he wasn't in the castle of Druid.

Judd surprised her by walking past her into the castle and he searched every nook and cranny for his brother.

He won't stop even when every other person does. The lead knight ignored the soldiers of the castle and he went down to the dungeon.

Jamie was sitting by the fountain when she saw him come outside. He looked different, almost broken.

His footsteps were uneven and his almost always upright posture was droopy like he was suddenly deprived of some bones in his body.

Jamie's curiosity peaked as she watched him. This wasn't Judd, the proud mute terrifying Knight who sent enemies to their knees, this man was different.

It finally occurred to Jamie that the man sitting on the bare floor staring into an empty space was grieving.

Jamie moved closer to him and sat very close to him. She knew how much Judd hated being touched and so she kept her distance.

"Luther" Jamie whispered.

How can she comfort someone when her own grief was taking its sweet time to manifest. Jamie felt nothing. She was numb and she shouldn't be.

Deep down in the core of her being, Jamie was like a stone, maybe her sister in law Rosemund was right after all.

She didn't feel sadness or fear or happiness. She simply stopped feeling.

"Luther?" Jamie called his name softly again.

It took the man six years to grieve the death of the father that tried to kill him. Alexander's death was bound to be worse.

"You should have let me die. Eileen should have minded her own business. Now, I have to walk around as the shadow knight that lost his king" Judd spoke to her.

He was trying to keep his stoic appearance but she could see he was failing miserably.

"Except he wasn't just your king and the man you are supposed to die for" Jamie reminded him.

"You are damn right! He was my brother" He yelled at her and threw his fist into the air like fighting an invisible being would make him better.

"He was my b-brother" He placed both palms on his face and he sobbed like an injured child that had to endure more pain before he was fixed.

Jamie moved closer and she held him as he tried to get control of his emotions.

"I know" She whispered to him.

They sat there for a while before Judd stood up. He pulled her up from the place she sat since it suddenly became impossible to lift herself up.

"We are going to the isle of the blessed and I am going to make the witch return your life force to you" Judd told her.

"Don't worry about it. I have sorted it out already" Jamie answered as she held on to him for support.

"So how long do I have to say goodbye?" Judd asked her.

He was somewhat relieved that he wasn't going to feel this way for long.

Jamie smiled sadly. He was going to like it as much as a castrated goat loved the pain of castration.

"Roughly 75 years, brother in law and don't worry about me either, it seemed that witches have an incredibly long amount of years to live"

Jamie watched his expression and she was correct. Judd didn't like the news one bit.

"Bloody hell!" He muttered.

"I know. Dying is easy but living…that is very hard" Jamie murmured.

She waited for the wave of sadness and the overwhelming emotions to over take her but still she felt nothing.

She walked down the stairs with Judd. His face was still tear stained and red. She met up with Semeen and Ursla, both of whom had an identical look to Judd.

It wasn't a secret, anyone who knew and loved Alexander was going to feel like crap for a very long time.

"I am s-sorry, Luna" Semeen murmured and touched her arm.

Jamie shrugged

"It happens all the time.. Mother's run off to be with their lovers. Fathers make a one time mistake of selling you to the devil to be a mistress and occasionally husbands disappear into thin air, right?"
