Chapter Thirty: The devil of Aradale

King Darius watched as his son fought a man twice his size in the garden. Prince Alexander's opponent was a mercenary his father paid for the sole purpose of watching him defeat Alexander.

The boy had nothing more than a wooden sword with no helmet or body armor. His lean muscular body which was as a result of intense physical and mental training swerved as he evaded the sharp sword that was aim at his heart. Alexander battled the hired eradicator whose sole purpose was to humiliate him in front of his father.

Alexander's back clashed into the ground when the mercenary knocked the wooden sword away from him and slammed the hilt of the real sword into his abdomen. In his bid to escape with his head intact, he tripped and fell on the ground for the second time still the man did not give him any break.

When the man swirl his sword at him, drawing blood, Alexander legendary temper took over.

He rolled on the ground and deflected the attacks thrown at him. Soon he was on his feet, squatting like a curious cat waiting patiently for a mouse to make a mistake, just an opportunity to pounce and watch the light go out of the eradicator's eyes.

The mercenary moved closer with his menacing weapon and Alexander kept both his hands clenched for a fist fight. He was strong as a bear but Alexander was intelligent and fast.

The man ran towards him with the sword and Alexander grabbed the hand he held the sword and pulled him forward. Alexander proceeded to slam his elbow into the man's abdomen as hard as he could while twisted his wrist the same time before disarming him completely. He slammed the hilt of the sword into the man's face, blinding him momentarily.

With the assurance that the mercenary was disarmed and almost defeated, Alexander slammed the sword into his abdomen.

The look of surprise on the man's face was something the crown prince will never forget in a hurry.

The man held the sword sticking out of his abdomen as he fell to the ground.

Alexander wiped the blood away from the small cut on his face and proceeded to whisper something king Darius could only hope were harsh words before pulling the sword out of the dying man. Using the man's tunic to clean his bloodied sword, the crown prince placed the sword back into his belt.

King Darius smiled with a renewed affection of his warrior son. According to his counts, crown prince Alexander had killed a total number of eleven hired killers that week alone. It would make any father proud, especially a blood thirty ruthless king like Darius.

He gestured for his son to join him on the table where he feasted and enjoyed the battled. And Alexander obliged him.

"That was a close call, Xander. You took too much time to kill him? You can't afford to make mistakes" in place of words of praise and acknowledgment were endless criticism and rejected effort.

Alexander appeared unshaken about his father disappointment.

"He was twice as big as the last one, His majesty" he simply replied the king.

"Excuses are for the weak, Alexander. And weak would get you killed. If you are going to be king after me and rule not just Aradale but the whole western hemisphere and Maybe in not distance future the eastern hemisphere too, then you can't have excuses for being a weakling"

King Darius pulled apart the chicken he was eating to show how displeased he really was.

"Yes, Father. I shall do better"

King Darius felt something nibble on his leg and his hand went to his sword as he looked down to find a brown puppy at his feet.

As he watched the blasted creature with renewed murderous glare, a young girl of about twelve wandered into the king's garden with a worried expression.

Crown prince Alexander expression deepened as he heard the girl's voice.

"Drago! Drago! Where are you?" The girl called out as she wandered.

The girl had black long curly hair that fell down to her shoulders. Her peach color gown had silver thread dangling everywhere; it was the latest fashion in Aradale. Her big brown eyes looked worried. She was a pretty girl even though she was a little chubby.

King Darius left hand went under the table to pick up the puppy but Crown prince Alexander's hand was faster.

"Alexander! You found Drago" the little girl voice was laced with excitement as she ran forward with outstretched hand.

"Rosemund, you are not allowed to have pets. Father was clear on that, wasn't he?" Alexander asked in an emotionless tone to the now frightened girl that was face to face with the king.

"Drago is just a puppy. Give it back to me!" The little girl demanded all the while she kept her eyes away from King Darius and fixed on Alexander.

"Kill the blasted creature!" The king ordered his son.

The girl went forward and held his leg.

"No, Papa. Give Drago to me! He is mine"

"Rosemund, pet makes us weak and you are not allowed to be weak. If by any misfortune, your brother and I fall in the heat of a battle. You will be Queen over western hemisphere. And you need to be ruthless too. Be thankful I am not making you kill the pet like my father made me"

Without looking at the girl or the king, Alexander rolled the puppy in his hand and threw it further away from where he sat and the helpless creature landed with thud. Princess Rosemund's little heart broke into pieces.

He stood up without paying any attention to the tears of his little sister or the smiles on his father face and drew his sword to finish the little creature.

Princess Rosemund heard a squeal and Alexander emerged with a bloodied sword and she fled in tears, dropping a ribbon she got for the dog.
