Chapter thirty one: Little one

Alexander wiped the bloodied sword and sat down beside his father, his face humorless. Just bland and he showed nothing of his true feelings.

Prince Alexander of Aradale, the heir apparent to the throne of Aradale and the whole of western hemisphere was a known heartless monster and ruthless brute just like his father. Some rumors hinted that the son might be more ruthless than the father and it was something king Darius boosted about.

Many that saw and fought Prince Alexander never lived long enough to tell the story. People he fought always mysteriously disappear into thin air and the next, were their families both women and children. Crown Prince Alexander doesn't just erase you, he erase your family and linage too.

A young maiden was asked to describe Alexander of Aradale and she ended up painting the picture of the devil. Since then he was popularly known as the devil of Aradale.

Contrary to what people thought, Alexander physique wasn't like a monster's or the devil. He had an angelic face, tall with black hair. He fitted the popular description of a fine young man, tall, dark and handsome.

At age eighteen, he had already seen enough war and was Aradale's greatest warrior. It seems his father always had another kingdom to conquer and massacre. It was how his father reign over west and before the full moon, Aradale will begin conquering the Eastern hemisphere too. It would be a blood bath.

Rosemund ran to her chambers in tears and ordered her servants and her personal maids out. If she was going to cry, she didn't need the word going back to her father.

She covered her whole body with the quilt and sobbed until her body shook. A tap on the door aroused the well known temper that ran in her family.

"If you open that door, I will have your head!" She threatened from under the covers to the intruding clueless maid.

"Rose, its Alexander"

The door was pushed open and her brother stepped inside.

"Have you been crying, little one?" Alexander asked in a mellowed voice and pulled the quilt away from her face.

"I know you had to kill Drago. I don't blame you Alexander" she said and threw herself into his embrace.

"I have someone here for you"

A cuddly brown dog emerged from behind Alexander and jumped on Rosemund.

"Drago!" Rosemund hugged the puppy tightly.

"I really thought you killed him. I saw the blood"

Alexander showed her his hand, where there was a cut.

"I used my blood. Sorry, I frightened you. I had to make father believe I killed the little creature" Alexander smiled.

"It's called a Doggy, Alexander"

"I know. So, don't cry anymore"

Rosemund hugged him tightly before letting him go. Alexander stood up and headed for the door for his training.

"Alexander?"

"Yes, Rose"

"Are you going to turn bad like papa when you wear the crown?" The girl felt a terrifying wave sweep through her.

Alexander turned back and went back to her.

"I hope not. But if I ever do, you need to remind me how to be good again. You won't give up, would you Rosie?" Alexander asked.

"I won't. I am your good luck charm, remember?" Rosemund said with a smile.

"Yes. Then we are going to be okay, Rosemund. Just keep out of father's way"

The look in Rosemund' eyes was admiration for her older brother that has taken the role of a father and a mother in her life.

When their mother, Queen Isa died five years ago from an illness, the last shred of humanity in King Darius slowly slipped away. He pushed Alexander to be a bloodier and deadlier. And his only daughter he paid no attention to her unless to teach a heart wrenching lesson like killing her pet Or throwing her in a high current river to watch whether she could swim against all odds. Two out of the three times it happened, King Darius drove right into the river to drag her drowning body out while the third time, she got so angry that she weathered the storm and pulled herself out of the river, walked past her father to her chambers to find Alexander ordering the servant to heat the room up. She was seven years old and Alexander just turned thirteen.

It was the day he started looking out for her, became a better fighter and warrior to draw his father's attention away from his sister and it worked so far.

Rosemund smiled at her brother and she whispered something she had no way of knowing her brother would hear.

"I love you more than anything in the world, Alexander"
