Chapter thirty three: Good heart yet Ursla won't leave
"I curse you....I curse you. By the day before the full moon, you shall become your true self and so will your child and your child's child till the end of time. Your crown is cursed and heavy lies the head that wears it"
As a reward for his efforts, King Ansell took the head of the old man. When he came back to his castle, he went far and wide in search of a cure but none came.
Alexander blinked to refocus his mind and eyes. He needed to talk to his sister before he departed.
"Do you have to go, Alexander?"
"Yes. Father says tonight we would invade the Eastern hemisphere starting from the kingdom called Namura"
"Don't go Alexander"
"I have to, Rose. But if I don't come back and you become Queen. Follow your good heart right after you behead sir Litton. He is a traitor and will come for the throne if you don't"
"Do I have to?"
"Yes"
without another word he turned and left.

Around the same time in the king's forest in Namura. A fourteen years old princess Jamie of Namura still held a blade to the throat of her slave girl, Ursla.
"Leave" Jamie ordered and took the knife she had pressed to her throat away.
"Milady?"
Ursla looked flustered and uncertain. She stared at the princess's back in shock. Was she going to order her execution for fighting her?
Few days ago, she was the chief's sister, she was the one giving the orders and now a girl her age would order for her head and it would be delivered on a plate.
"My lady, I apologize for hurting you. It was not my intention to subdue you so easily"
Jamie stopped in her step. Subdue her easily? Was the slave mad already? She wasn't subdued easily.
"Ursla?"
"Yes, milady"
"Defeat me in a fight and get me out of this God awful dress and I will give you your freedom"
"Milady?" Ursla took a step back "I beseech you, don't make me do this? The king will have my poor head, if harm comes to you"
Jamie smiled, she was royalty but she could also do whatever she wanted in the big forrest that was now her home.
"Get me out of this gown, Ursla. I won't ask again"
Ursla went immediately to her side to start undoing the hooks of her dress. It was like a million of them and Ursla was a novice to the finer art of undoing hooks. Jamie noticed her difficulty and took a small blade from the table and handed it to Ursla. In a second, she was freed of the damned cloth.
She took the sword she was holding earlier and gestured for Ursla to do the same.
"I am sorry, milady. I cannot fight you"
"If you don't fight me, I will have your head on a chopping block by dawn and if you do, you are a free girl"
It wasn't supposed to be given much thought. Both the princess and the slave girl knew what the better option was yet Ursla weighed both options equally. On one hand, she gets to be reunited with her dead family and on the other; she can be wherever she wanted to be as a free girl.
"Ursla, what is your answer?"
"I will let you choose, Princess Jamie. Do I live or do I die today?"
"Well, you get to fight me today. Pick up the sword"
"No sword. I will take the fighting stick, milady"
Jamie flipped the stick and it landed in her hand. She dropped the sword she was holding and picked up a fighting stick too.
"Let's fight!"
Jamie ran towards her with the fighting stick but she deflected her attack easily and less than a brink of an eye, Jamie was on her back with Ursla's rod pressing against her throat. Her slave girl just defeated her in the shortest time possible.
Ursla offered her hand and Jamie took it and she was pulled up.
"A deal is a deal. You are a free girl, Ursla"
Ursla's eyes dimmed just a little bit. Her head tilted slightly to the right, she examined Jamie's countenance.
Princess Jamie had the authority to free her from slavery but Ursla had no idea why a girl of such prestige would bother with her. Aren't all royalties supposed to be uptight and stiff?
"You are going to keep your word? Why?"
"Because if I am going to be Queen; my word should be worth something. Now, be gone! Before my thinkers comes back"
Ursla bowed and slowly backed away without turning her back to Jamie.
After she was gone, it finally dawned on Jamie she had no one to cook or do other hard jobs, Ursla was supposed to do. After much contemplation, she took a bow and some arrow to hunt some deer or bush rats in the forest.
Jamie had zero knowledge on how to use arrows. Archery was alien to her yet she forged into the forest alone.
It was when she saw it. Just a little bigger than herself. Injured and lying in the pool of its blood. She moved closer to it for a better examination.
Its eyes were closed. Breathing was laborious and shallow. The teeth blood stained and snarky. It was in a lot of pain.
Jamie stared at it for a couple of times, rooted in her spot. It was her second time seeing a wolf. The last time was when her father came back on a hunting trip with a dead one.
Jamie tried to come closer when suddenly the wolf's eyes flew up and he came at her.
Jamie didn't have the time to defend the attack, all she remembered was one minute she was almost food to the animal and next Ursla was pushing her out of harm's way.
The wolf came at Ursla with vicious determination.
"Ursla! Watch out!" Cried Jamie as she attempts to warn the former slave girl but it was too late the wolf knocked her against one of the tree and she lost consciousness.
The wolf turned around to maim Princess Jamie, Slowly moving closer to her.
Jamie lowered her hands in a none-attacky way.
"I know you are hurt. I just want to help you. Settle down or you will bleed to death in no time"
She slowly moved closer to the snarky wolf.
"Turn back Jamie....turn back and run" Jamie whispered to herself severally but even if she made it out alive, the wolf would surely die.
"I am going to help you" as an afterthought she added "please don't eat me!"
