Chapter forty five: Unleashing

Alexander wore his full knightly uniform. He took only his sword and left his helmet. He had his crown on his head and the red cape that was pinned on both his shoulders danced to the wind. Behind him was Sir Judd, Derrick and Walters and they were in similar outfits with the exception of a crown.

Alexander already ordered for Luna Elise to be accorded the burial deserving of a warrior who died for the crown. There was no greater honor to be given to the dead than having the king light the match that helps them find peace in the afterlife.

Alexander was almost about to climb on his horse when he saw Janessa and Rosemund coming towards him. Both were traditionally dressed in black dresses with crowns. They were mourning with their king.

Jamie stopped half way to where the king was and stared at him. It took Alexander a while to deter that the dress she was wearing was dark blue and not black like he thought before. She bowed to him like she was supposed to. But he could see the way her jaw tightened and the way she was tapping her finger on her dress repeatedly. She was angry about something.

Rosemund moved closer to the knights and the king. Alexander held princess Rosemund's waist and lifted her on the horse.

He waited for Janessa to come closer but she never did. She simply turned and walked back inside.

"Don't let the Queen out of your sight, Sir Walters!" Alexander ordered one of his most trusted knights.

"Yes, his Highness"

Jamie turned back when she heard the horses galloping away. She had every intention of attending the funeral until she came up close to Alexander.

Jamie let out a small laugh. What was King Alexander thinking when he ordered her and the whole royal household to attend a funeral minutes after she saw Amelia, his mistress leave his chamber? Did he think she would stand by him like a docile little Queen?

No. She had better plans. She was going to disappear before the royal family came back to the castle.

Jamie picked up the pace. She knew she had little time before the king and the princess came back to the Castle.

She entered her room and packed a few clothes. She took out a steel box twice the size of her palm and dropped it on her bed.

Jamie hesitate before she opened it. The Stone castle the King had gifted her was there inside the box. She had wanted to destroy it at first but she couldn't.

If someone destroyed the only portrait she had of her banished mother, Jamie would order for their execution without moving an eyelid. And the stone castle belonged to the dead Queen - King Alexander's mother and so she couldn't harm it either.

She placed it at the center of the room where Alexander would find it. The stone castle wasn't hers to take anyway.

Queen Janessa carried the small basket containing her belonging and she almost made it to the stable when Sir Walters appeared out of nowhere.

"Her Majesty. May I be of service to my Queen?" Sir Walter had an idea of what Janessa wanted to do but he played clueless.

"I...I was going for a picnic. Thanks but I don't need your help" Jamie told him.

She started walking again but the knight walked behind her.

Jamie stopped and looked at him. She didn't fool the stoic knight one bit.

"The garden is in the opposite direction, her Majesty"

"Garden?" Jamie looked confused.

"Yes, her Majesty. You require a garden for your picnic"

"Oh, that's right Sir..."

"The name is Sir Walters, my Queen"

"Of course. Thanks for clarifying that for me Sir Walters"

Jamie turned and walked back to her chamber. She had a feeling that Sir Walters stood in front of her door for the rest of the evening.

Jamie was uneasy, the last two times she tried to escape didn't end exactly well. The king both lashed and shot her. Will Sir Walters kept her attempted escape a secret?

Or was she in for a world of pain?

Alexander rode with two of his trusted knights and the princess into the king's forest. The laying to rest of Luna Elise would take place near the River.

King Alexander ordered the knights to stand guard from a distance while he rode to the Riverside with Princess Rosemund.

The Riverside was seldom but beautiful. The trees allowed rays of sunshine to penetrate and leave beautiful reflection on the fall leaves. There was a fallen tree covered in moss and algae, a few inches away from them. Crickets made sounds like they were playing music and the frogs croaking add a tone that did not entirely fit into the cricket's song.

The remaining survivor of the moon pack stood at the centre with grim expressions. Alexander could see Semeen placing the final flower on the canoe the Luna was lying inside.

Alexander had ordered Sir Judd to provide everything the Moon pack needed to bury their Luna.

Alexander walked towards them with Rosemund behind him. He stop before Semeen who still had her back to him. She was watching her mother.

"She was beautiful" Rosemund couldn't help but utter.

Alexander agreed with her. Luna Elise was dressed in white and placed in a canoe filled with flowers. She was indeed a sight.

"Yes, she was" Semeen turned around to face the royal family.

Alexander couldn't fault the girl if she blamed him for her mother's death. He would understand.

"I am sorry for your lost, Semeen. If I could take her place, I would" Alexander told her.

Semeen turned briefly to look at her mother before responding. But she didn't address King Alexander, she spoke to her pack instead.

"She made her choice. She protected her King as shall we all. I am your Alpha Luna and I know that your allegiance is to me. But just like Luna Elise, my allegiance is to the Wolf King"

Semeen knelt before King Alexander on one leg with her head bowed. Gradually, all the moon pack wolves bowed to Alexander and Rosemund.

"Long live the Wolf King! Long Live the Wolf King!" They all chanted.
