Chapter forty four: The devil I know 2

Alexander let out a slight moan as Amelia did what she did best.

Jamie walked like she wasn't in a hurry to get to where she was going. She refused to be known as the Queen that was always in a haste. She was already that princess in Namura. It bothered her a little that she was beginning to see herself as Queen of the West. She was only going to be here till she is able to get herself to her kingdom.

Jamie wondered what the King was doing. She was almost close to the king's chamber entrance when she saw it open and a brown haired girl came out of Alexander's room.

She would have assumed it was one of the maids, except her dress was undone and rough like she had dressed up in a hurry.

Most girls would have froze when the come face to face with wife of the man they were involved with but not Amelia.

She still had a polite smile on her face. Amelia knew if her plan works and she becomes the King's concubine, then she and the Queen would eventually run into each other someday.

It was better she made a good impression today. Amelia hated to be seen as a coward and a cheap skirt.

Jamie stood by the corner revealing nothing of her true emotions. Kings took mistress's all the time. Her father, King Jared of Namura had his fair share. Queen's were allowed to take lovers too but they had to be discreet about the whole affair. It was a double standard Jamie hated.

Soon, Alexander's mistress was within an arm's reach. Jamie hated the polite smile on her face and the way she boldly walked up to her like she was rubbing salt on the injury.

She wasn't conventionally pretty but Jamie could see why some men found her attractive. Why Alexander found her attractive.

She bowed to Jamie like she was supposed to.

"Her Royal Highness. My name is Amelia"

She had greeted Jamie with a title accorded to a princess not a Queen. The correct tittle should have been her Majesty.

Jamie refused to lose her temper. She had the steel face that she always used on her nosy handmaidens back in Namura.

"I suppose the title is correct too. I am a princess, at least in the East I am. Don't worry, you will learn eventually. No one can remain a dullard forever. You are the new water maid, right?" Jamie spoke like she was oblivious of the fact that Amelia was her husband's mistress.

"I am not-" Amelia knew the Queen was trying to get under her skin. A water maid was a job reserved for the lowest of the low.

"Nevermind...run along now. And next time, Sarah. Use the correct title"

"My name is Amelia, Her Majesty" Amelia was barely keeping it together.

"Of course, it is. Look! You are not a dullard after all. You used the correct tittle. Good for you"

Jamie tapped her shoulders slightly. She had a wide smile as she walked passed her and Alexander's chamber to the garden.

Amelia kept her head down and her anger contained as the Queen walked pass her.

Alexander dried his body with a clean linen. He was yet to understand what had just happened just now.

A moment ago, his mistress was pleasuring him and then he was yelling for her to get out.

What was wrong with him? He had never been one to turn down canal pleasure before. But somehow, the thought of a bad tempered princess that had more than once meant him harm made the whole notion of being with another woman tedious and unappealing.

He was no saint but his body knew who he wanted. Alexander knew Janessa would never give herself to him either.

He dressed himself without any help. He knew Ginger was tired also from the dangerous journey they just took too. He had to make due. He was almost dressed when he heard a knock on the door.

"Identify yourself!" His mood wasn't any better. If anything, it was more grumpier now.

"His Highness, it's Rosemund. Are you decent?'

Alexander looked at himself in the mirror. There was no way he could tie the lace at the back of the tunic or his cuff links. He shrugged.

"I am decent-ish. Come on in, Little sister"

Rosemund pushed the door open and entered his chamber.

She walked to her brother and helped him with his cuffs link and then the lace at the back. Alexander could see from the mirror that she had worried about him.

"I am fine, Rose"

"No, you are not. You almost died. Just like I predicted" Rosemund made the lace tighter than usual.

Alexander pulled away from her. Maybe having his angry sister help him dress wasn't the best idea.

"One of them protected me, Rose. Someone died to save me. I don't feel great about that either."

"I know. I am sorry, Xander"

Alexander became apprehensive. It wasn't a memory he cherished.

"What are we going to do about the prisoners you rescued?" Rosemund asked him.

"Make them disappear" Alexander muttered.

Rosemund looked at her brother like he had gone crazy on her.

"I don't mean kill them, Rose. I meant get them to some place off the map where they can live in peace in secret"

If Rosemund knew her brother well enough then she knew he had a plan.

"Where are you going to take them?"

Alexander pulled a map from the table. A map of the western hemisphere and pointed at the dead zone.

"I am going to take them there. No one will dare look for them in the dead zone. They just have to remain there until I figure out a way to broker an accord between the humans and the wolves"

Rosemund looked at her brother like he had gone insane. Wolves and man living together in harmony? It was near impossible. Man and beast have been at war since the dawn of humanity.

"You are going to reunite man and beast?"

"Yes. But first, we have to bury Luna Elise"

Rosemund knew it finally.. Something Alexander saw in the south changed him.
