Chapter Forty three: The devil I know.
Jamie stood in front of the mirror. She wore the green dress that revealed her cleavage more than she was comfortable with. But it was deemed fashionable and it was made for her.
The dress had a golden embroidery that was made of lace material and it clung to her upper body till her waist where is fell freely to her feet.
She stood still as Rachael tied the dress laces at the back.
"Don't make it too tight, Rachael. I really like breathing"
"Yes, her Majesty" The young maid whispered.
Rachael knew that even though Queen Janessa kept her opinion to herself, something was making her nervous.
Jamie stayed in Aradale just like Alexander had asked her. She had no idea why she felt like she had to.
She gave her word to him and as future Queen of Namura, her word should be worth something. Except, it wasn't the reason. She was worried about the king she wanted dead for shooting her. It didn't make any sense to Jamie but it was the truth.
There was a little uproar outside that caught her attention and Jamie rushed to the window. She got there just in time to see King Alexander and three of his knights ride inside the castle.
He was wearing the same clothes he wore two days ago.
Good! Now that he was back in one piece, she has to put her plans in motion. King Alexander had to pay for shooting her. It was a matter of honor.
"Rachael, that would be all. I like to be left alone"
"Yes, her Majesty"
Rachael bowed and left.
Jamie moved to the mirror and she pushed the sleeve off of her shoulder to review a healing wound.
Alexander had done that to her and she wasn't about to let it slide.
She spent nights awake thinking of the perfect revenge plan. A plan that would be done in secret, a plan that won't cost her, her head.
Jamie came up with several. But all of us most certainly will end up with the king demanding for her head and so she decided on the perfect plan. She was going to keep the king guessing. She wasn't going to take any revenge at all.
She knew Alexander would come to her and so, she stayed in her room. Jamie was determined not to go to him and inquire of the war he went to fight.
She would wait.
Alexander entered his chambers. He had spent an hour listening to the lords of the noble houses talked about his kingdom and how it was peaceful in his absence. He had about heard enough when they started talking about the hunt that was supposed to happen in a few weeks.
And then, they reminded him of his nuptials in a few days and it tipped him off the edge. Someone had died in his place and celebration was the last thing on his mind. He had dismissed all of them abruptly and walked to his chambers.
He pulled at his tunic and unclad himself. He saw the bath, Ginger had prepared for him. It was exactly what he needed.
Alexander stripped and soaked his aching muscles inside the water. He took a deep breath and relaxed, taking care to think about nothing. His eyes remained closed until he heard a sound and he opened them.
He recognized the form of the intruder. It was Amelia... One of his mistresses, Alexander was very fond of her. Amelia was unlike the maidens he had bedded before.
She expected nothing from him, emotional wise. She knew how to please him and she knew how to take pleasure for herself.
"Amelia" Alexander whispered. He was too tired to talk louder really.
The brown haired girl leaned against the door. Alexander knew she had her signature smile on her face. She wasn't pretty but she had air around her that made her enticing to the opposite sex.
Alexander knew Amelia wanted him to make her, his legal concubine. After all, Kings in the West were allowed as many as possible. Being a legal concubine, she would be entitled to the king's protection and providence.
She could bore the king's children and even though her children wouldn't be princes and princesses, they would be land owners and have a title of lord and Lady.

"I heard that you had a stressful journey, his Highness. I am here to make it less stressful....Let Amy make you happy, his Highness"
Amelia moved closer to him. Alexander made no effort to stand up. He closed his eyes briefly.
"You need to go" he murmured to the young girl "Not today, Amelia. I am not in the mood"
"I am sure his Highness can manage"
Amelia was on her knees with one of her hand inside the water. The other hand rubbed Alexander's neck.
Alexander didn't utter another word. It's been weeks since he had a woman's body. It was the longest he had gone since he had his first at fourteen.
Amelia dropped tiny kisses around his neck and she moaned as she did. Alexander took another breathe. It felt good not to wonder whether the woman he was with would kill him if he kept his eyes closed.

"If you want to stay in my chambers, do not kiss me on my lips again. Did I make myself clear, Amelia?"
