Chapter ninety nine: Take my hand, let's take a step
Jamie knew she needed a bathe. It was almost midday and she was almost certain she stinks and she needed to clean her teeth too. Her husband lay with her on the bed, it was odd. He was fully clothed and she was still naked without any clothing except the blanket covering them.
She should let go. She could stand up and pick up her undergarment and cloth herself. She could ring for Rachael to set up a bathe for her. Jamie could do a lot of things except she didn't. She did quite the opposite, she snuggled deeper into her husband.
"How many rules have we broken so far?" She asked him.
Alexander chuckled. His deep baritone voice almost sounded like music to her ears. Jamie would never tell him but she loved hearing the sound of his laughter. It was rare.
"How many rules have we broken? Well, so far ten of them and counting"
"And counting?" Jamie sounded confused.
"Yes, I am not supposed to kiss the queen without prior arrangement and agreement" Alexander told her.
"But you didn't..."
"Oh, that's right" Alexander kissed her on the lips again. "Now we've broken eleven rules"
"I think I am a bad influence on you, King Alexander. Before you met me, you followed every rule" Jamie could feel the vibration of laughter about to erupt.
Alexander laughed heartily. It was true.
"True. You are my little rebel and you are turning me into one. I blame you for that, Queen of the West"
Jamie let go and the vibration erupted. She was laughing too. She opened her mouth to say something when they heard a knock on the door.
Jamie sat upright. Bollocks! Please go away! She wanted to yell. She didn't want reality breaking their nicely constructed bubble but she knew as soon as that door opens, Alexander would go back to the man she has to hate.
Not yet!
"Make them go away" Jamie pleaded with him.
"Whoever you are, I suggest you don't come inside for the sake of the head on your neck!" Alexander yelled at the intruder, which in hind sight wasn't the mature thing to do. He was after all in the Queen's Chamber when he should be doing a million and one thing for his kingdom.
"Xander, its Rosemund. I have come to fetch you myself since the three maids and two knights I sent suddenly forgot the way to the queen's chamber"
Alexander knew it was a serious matter but he couldn't help laughing. He was behaving like a raging teenage boy while his little sister was playing the adult.
As soon as Jamie heard the crown princess's voice, she tried to stand up and cloth herself but Alexander won't let her. He was going to keep talking to his little sister while holding her naked body. It wasn't at all distraught and weird.
"What can we do for you, Rose?" Alexander asked his sister.
"I could count about five duties you are neglecting to do this morning but more importantly I need you to come to the king's court" Alexander had always known that Rosemund would make a great Queen, she was bossy, intelligent and one step ahead of everyone else including him. She was cunning too but most importantly she was good and fair...she was nothing like him.
"Why do I have to come to court?" Alexander questioned instead.
"Can I come inside...this is ridiculous!" Rosemund was furious. She was crown princess and she was talking to the great king of the west from a freaking locked door!
"Believe me little sister, you want to stay there. Now, be out with what you want to tell me!"
Alexander knew his sister rolled her eyes just now.
"The council is out with a verdict. Do you still want to stay with her behind closed doors or get to the court?" Rosemund asked hands akimbo.
"I am coming out, Princess Rosemund. You may leave now"
"No. I am going to stay right here till you do"
Alexander looked at Jamie and suddenly he was anxious again. He had no idea what he would do if he wasn't given the opportunity to avenge his bride.
"I have to go be a king" Alexander stood up from the bed and so did Jamie using the blanket as a cover.
He picked up her undergarment and handed it over to her. Jamie dropped it on the bed and took a red cloak from the wardrobe instead and covered herself. She needed a bathe and it was easier to be naked again with a cloak.
Alexander kissed her cheek and headed for the door.
"Alexander?"
"Yes" he turned to watch her.
"No matter what the verdict is, it's okay. I want you to know that you did all you could for me. I am grateful"
Alexander blinked. It was never a debate.
"Actually, it doesn't matter what their verdict is, I am going after them, even if I have to create a war to do it. Get some rest, Monisha" He kissed her forehead before he opened the door and left.
Alexander came face to face with his sister, angry princess Rosemund with her tensed jaw and her eyebrows scrunching together.
"Hey, Little one… Shall we go to the council now?"
Alexander offered his arm to her but Rosemund ignored it and started off towards the council with her brother behind.
"Rosemund?"
"You ignored your Knights, it was more important for you to stay with her than train the knights that will save your life if need be. You ignore court and etiquettes, you were supposed to meet with councilor Jared for monthly update but you didn't show up for that either. Instead, I hear you were dilly dallying with her by the river of all places....the freaking river Alexander. Now, everybody is talking about it.. Everyone is talking about the naked queen and king of Aradale. That is a fire I have to put out!"
