Chapter 54 – Finally Dead

Facing the burning gazes of his teammates, Zhang Yuanqing voiced his plan:

“I have an Item that can entangle the car-humanoid, giving us ample time to find the Controller.”

Regretful Father, Xi Shi, and Xie Lingxi furrowed their brows.

Meanwhile, Fire Enchanter and the Great Sage Equal to Heaven looked utterly bewildered: “Item? Haven’t our skills and Items been sealed?”

Xi Shi flashed a diplomatic smile and explained: “We found a card in the car earlier, stating that we could use an Item once.”

Use an Item? Fire Enchanter and the Great Sage Equal to Heaven were initially delighted, but then frowned, the latter probing:

“Are you saying you plan to use the Item to face the car-humanoid alone, to buy us time?”

Fire Enchanter, recalling the ferocity of the car-humanoid, quickly shook his head:

“That proposal is unreliable, unless Active Skills are unsealed and combined with the Item, maybe then we could stand a chance against that robot.”

This time, Xie Lingxi also agreed with Fire Enchanter, saying in her gentle, soft voice:

“Brother Wang Tai, this is very dangerous. We, as spirit realm walkers at the Supernatural Stage, can only access Items of this level. Can an Item of supernatural quality truly resolve the issue with the car-humanoid?”

Items are categorized by type, not by level, but spirit realm walkers are aware that level is a hidden attribute; Items obtained at the Supernatural Stage mostly belong to that level.

Regretful Father commented indifferently: “This idea is risky. If a single Item could easily solve the danger, then this card wouldn’t have appeared in the car.”

He reminded Zhang Yuanqing not to misjudge the situation and waste a card needlessly. How could an S-level mission be so simple?

Clearly, the team members were skeptical of Wang Tai’s idea, but given Zhang Yuanqing’s established ‘prestige’, they only objected and did not outright refuse.

Of course, a regular Item wouldn’t suffice, but a Rule-type Item definitely could! Facing his teammates’ distrust, Zhang Yuanqing, who knew the capabilities of the Red Dance Shoes well, smiled faintly:

“As experienced spirit realm walkers, how could you doubt my judgment? Don’t forget, we’re all in this together. I wouldn’t joke about my own life.”

His expression was full of confidence, his tone utterly calm.

At this moment, Wang Tai’s consistent past performance had its effect; the teammates frowned in silence. They were still doubtful, but no longer opposed.

Mainly because they either lacked Items or lacked powerful Items for combat.

Regretful Father fell silent as well. Putting aside the talk of experience, he agreed with the latter part of Zhang Yuanqing’s statement.

Zhang Yuanqing said: “Time is limited; everyone, start looking for the Car keys.”

The six spirit realm walkers sprang into action. In the following moments, Zhang Yuanqing found two Car keys, Xi Shi found one, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven found one, and Xie Lingxi found another.

They each went to the corresponding cars, unlocked them to check inside, but aside from a metal card in the little girl’s car, there were no other finds.

The content of Xie Lingxi’s card was: “You have one opportunity to transfer aggro.”

Regrettably, the cars in the Parking lot could not be driven. Zhang Yuanqing thought with disappointment, when suddenly a high-pitched engine roar came from a distance.

As everyone looked on like startled deer, stretching their necks alertly and staring in the direction of the sound.

At the entrance of the Underground parking lot, the two-meter-tall car-humanoid appeared once again, wielding a chainsaw, its eyes emitting a red glow, and its chest-mounted microphone blaring: Everyone must die~

Xi Shi screamed: “Wang Tai.”

The others scrambled to the same car, flung open the doors, but instead of diving in to take refuge, they looked expectantly towards Zhang Yuanqing with a hint of hope.

Zhang Yuanqing pulled a metal card out of his pocket.

*Ding* “Would you like to use the card to activate your Inventory?”

“Yes!”

The next moment, he could sense the presence of his Inventory again, quickly opened it, and Summoned the Red Dance Shoes.

A dark red glimmer streaked out, gracefully swirling, and materialized into a pair of Red Dance Shoes in front of their useless owner.

“Tap tap.”

The brand-new, delicate, and exquisite Red Dance Shoes spun quickly around Zhang Yuanqing, their steps indifferent to kin, yet lively as if they were happy to come out and dance.

But to Xie Lingxi and the others, this scene was somewhat horrifying.

Dance shoes? A pair of shoes that moved on their own?

Whether it was an illusion or not, looking at the Red Dance Shoes, they instinctively felt a chill and fear, for no reason, just intuition.

Sigh, if it weren’t out of necessity, I wouldn’t want to use it, Zhang Yuanqing thought with a sigh in his heart.

In fact, when he saw that card, his first reaction was: the haunted house is secure.

No matter how terrifying the ghosts in the haunted house were, they were still ghosts, after all. The Demon-suppressing Scepter contained the solar deity’s power, with half of the Deity’s yang essence, and it was the nemesis of all Evil entities.

Once inside the haunted house, he would brandish the Demon-suppressing Scepter, and under the great sun, the Ghost Bride, no matter how desperate, would have to sit on the ground, weeping tears: My lord, please don’t~

Unfortunately, resolving the immediate crisis was the priority, and the challenge of the Underground parking lot was not complicated, but very difficult.

Additionally, using the Red Dance Shoes had another benefit: deterring the Killer.

If the Killer recklessly aimed for elimination and the worst-case scenario occurred, the Red Dance Shoes, having lost their master, would revert to their original state and pursue every spirit realm walker in the Parking lot.

Everyone would die together.

Watching the car-humanoid roaring towards them, Zhang Yuanqing softly commanded:

“Go!”

The Red Dance Shoes darted off.

Two faint red lights swiftly struck the car-humanoid’s chest like electricity, “clang clang” with a thunderous impact, the steel car-humanoid, which was charging with the force of a thunderbolt, was actually stopped in its tracks, sliding back slightly.

That wasn’t all, the Red Dance Shoes that had halted the car-humanoid’s charge began a more intense stomping, each step causing the mechanical body to shudder and stagger.

It perfectly restrained the car-humanoid’s movement.

The car-humanoid swung its chainsaw in anger, but the Weapon that could cut through metal and jade could not touch the Red Dance Shoes, which seemed to not exist in reality.

The only disappointment was that the car-humanoid’s body was indestructible, and the Red Dance Shoes could do nothing against it.

But to Fire Enchanter, Xi Shi, and the others, this was simply the most wonderful scene.

“What kind of Item is this, what kind of Item is this?!” Fire Enchanter exclaimed with surprise and joy, his eyes sparkling with greed.

Xi Shi and Xie Lingxi, with their hearts hanging in suspense, finally felt a sense of relief, looking at the Red Dance Shoes with envy and desire.

Given the scarcity of Items, spirit realm walkers have an innate desire and greed for powerful Items ingrained in their genes.

“Stop looking for the car, find the Key instead,” Zhang Yuanqing yelled loudly, adding, “The cost of these Shoes is that if I don’t reclaim them into my Inventory within an hour, they will kill indiscriminately.”

Fire Enchanter and the others paled slightly, their greed vanishing in an instant, daring not to delay any further and quickly began their search.

Great Sage Equal to Heaven reluctantly tore his gaze away from the Red Dance Shoes, thinking of their cost, and loudly warned, “Wang Tai, you better not die.”

If he died, these Shoes would become another danger, a tremendous danger.

In the time that followed, the Red Dance Shoes took on the responsibility of blocking the car-humanoid, repeatedly defending them from crisis. Finally, after half an hour of ceaseless searching, Xie Lingxi found a Controller inside a sports car.

“Is this it, is this it?”

The young girl shouted with all her might.

“Seems like this lass is too lucky,” everyone thought as they paused their tasks, converging towards her with unprecedented speed.

In her hands was a long, black metal object, similar to the old-fashioned cell phones with an antenna on top, and a red button in the center.

“Try it out,” urged Fire Enchanter.

Xie Lingxi looked at Zhang Yuanqing, saw his nod, and pressed the red button without hesitation.

In an instant, everyone held their breath, eyes fixed on the robot still struggling with the Red Dance Shoes not far away.

The towering steel body suddenly stiffened as if someone had cut its power, all movements halting, the red light in its eyes going out.

“Tap, tap, tap.”

The Red Dance Shoes kicked the immobile foe a few more times, and seeing that the iron lump stood still without reaction, they stopped, puzzled, and tap-danced back to Zhang Yuanqing’s side.

Here it comes, it’s coming to dance with me, Zhang Yuanqing thought, a mix of relief and an almost imperceptible twitch in his mouth.

“We did it!” Xie Lingxi cheered.

Xi Shi and the others exhaled deeply, a fatigued relief on their faces, smiles of joy blooming.

No one had died, a flawless victory.

Just as they were about to express their gratitude and lavish praise on Zhang Yuanqing, they suddenly saw the car-humanoid, which had clearly stopped, reignite the red light in its eyes. It roared back to life, charging at the group like an arrow.

What’s going on? Everyone’s faces changed drastically, and Zhang Yuanqing, startled, roared, “Block it!”

He issued another command to the Red Dance Shoes.

But it was too late, the car-humanoid had already swept past the Red Dance Shoes, reenacting the initial scene, barreling into the crowd. Its target was clear: Xie Lingxi holding the Controller.

The event was so sudden, everyone was too slow to react, instinctively diving to the sides, not understanding the sudden turn of events.

Had the Controller malfunctioned?

Was there a mission change, rendering the Controller ineffective?

Xie Lingxi’s eyes reflected the rapidly approaching steel monster, the roaring saw of the motor. Her mind went blank.

But in the next moment, her eyes captured the image of Regretful Father’s simple and honest face, and the hostility and determination in his eyes.

Regretful Father lunged forward, pushing Xie Lingxi out of harm’s way, only to collide with the whirring chainsaw himself.

His body was bisected at the midsection by the chainsaw, intestines, internal organs, and his upper body tumbling to the ground with a sickening thud, blood splattering in a macabre spray.

“I am no longer who I was,” a maniacal laughter echoed from the car-humanoid’s chest speaker:

“Demon Lord, you’re finally dead, you’re finally dead, Demon Lord. Even if you killed me, don’t think you’ll live alone.”
