The world of Solaris was truly a fascinating place. It seriously reminded me of all the games I placed in my past, which allowed so many different lifestyles that choosing one was harder than the character reaction.

And Solaris, I was on the path to become king. Even though I was merely the second prince, I had been working tirelessly to gain fathers favour. And I think I managed to do exactly that.

I have become a hero! The pinnacle of human society just by my sheer strength alone. Nobody could stand in my path to become king, not even the demons or the pesky saint herself. But until that point, I had to follow her commands somewhat, which did involved sleeping in the mud with stinking adventurers. The audacity they had to snore by my side, just because they were stung by a honey badger bee from the game ‘Unlimited Adventure 4’ was truly staggering. What was their issue? These bees weren’t really toxic, but they still feared for their lives.

The worst of all was the grass though. It poked my skin at every minute, wasn’t soft at all and went on my nerves in general. That I couldn’t take a shower in the palace whenever I wanted was reason enough to bulldoze it to the ground, but this?

I had standards.

As such, I stood up on to glare at Sofie who was attempting to heal a nearby patient.

“Don’t bother with him. It was just a bee.” I commented dryly and strolled past her to get get to the nearest fire where the lowest grade meat possible was grilled.

“A demonic bee.” That’s why I hated this girl so much. She knew everything better, always had to have the last word and cared about the others as if they were important. In truth though, they were just trying to steal our glory, even though no one of my team wanted to see it like this.

“A honey badger bee. It’s not that hard.” I said a bit aggressively as she finished the treatment and glared at me angrily.

“How often do I need to tell you that this world isn’t from one of your silly games?” That healer girl asked.

“If you had played them, you might now more about this world!” I replied infuriated by her words. These games definitely came in handy during this adventure, that was for sure.

“I definitely know more than you!” I claimed, pushing her shoulders a little as she stopped in front of me.

“Hey, stop it.” For some reason, Mrs. Cat always stepped in between us whenever Sofie picked a fight with me and always sided with her. But what could I say? She was just a half human which weren’t known for their intelligence. Glaring at her I turned around, only to find myself right in front of the pesky saint.

“Do you want to throw me out again or what?” I asked, looking at her damaged glasses with disdain. She didn’t even know she was used by father to deal with the demons, nor did she see what she really was. She was just a stepping stone for me to become king, that was for sure. And maybe, just maybe I would allow her to remain queen. But even though she did look good which was honestly all there was to her, she would still had to beg for it.

“I would never do anything this extreme. It would mean your death after all.” The saint explained with a rather non descriptive smile.

“Schwarz, at least tell me you realised this is a threat.” I asked, turning around to the idiot who got a girl pregnant before we set out. But at least he wasn’t as dumb as the other two in my team.

“How is that a threat?” Schwarz asked dumbly, his hormones still turning him into a fool whenever that queen was around.

“Forget it … what do you want, Lucy?” I asked the saint who put her index finger on her lips sideways and apparently needed some time to think.

“Yesterday our aerial scout found older ruins further east with a tall obelisk in the middle.” She stated and pointed northwards. Not knowing the way was apparently one of her quirks to let men think they needed to protect her.

“So what?” I asked, not really knowing what she wanted to say with that. I had spent enough time on side quests to know that some ruins weren’t worth it.

“She wants us to check them out, idiot. We’ll go, Lucy.” Ellie said right away which made the goddam saint smile happily.

“Thank you.” She said, even though it sounded so fake.

“I’m not taking any orders from you.” I said, staring at the girl in front of me with disdain.

“How childish can you get?” Ellie asked and grabbed my shoulder which I naturally shook of fiercely.

“How about we put this to a vote?” Sofie proposed which made me sneer right away.

“We don’t live in a democracy here. This is feudalism and as I have the highest rank from all of you, I should be in charge of deciding.” I said proudly and looked in their eyes. Schwarz had apparently resigned to his fate already wile Sofie and Ellie rolled her eyes.

“Oh, so you follow every order I give you?” Lucy asked, tilting her head to the side and smiled smugly.

“You are just a woman. Natura-“ What I honestly didn’t expect was that Lucy didn’t show any reaction to my words at all. She merely smiled through my whole statement the same way as if she head it way too often already. What I expected even less though was the punch on my cheek by Ellie.

My vision spun a little as I was flung over to the side and landed on the dirty ground right away. Grabbing the grass, I wanted to stand up right away, but a knee soon pressed onto my back and Ellie’s hair dangled into my field of vision.

“This world may be so backwards that most don’t care about your misogyny. But you aren’t like them. You know that all men and woman are created equal and should behave as such. I know you lived in that fucked up palace for years, that you have been indoctrinated that you are the best and lived a lavish lifestyle. But I won’t allow you to have this attitude around me any longer. Understood?” Ellie asked, grabbed my hand and twisted it behind my back. In pain, I screamed loudly while looking at the unmoving feet of the saint herself. So much for being a good and kind person.

“I have .. said nothing wrong.” My father did it, my reincarnated sister didn’t treat the maids any better and usually nodded along with anything I proposed. So why the fuck should I treat the saint differently? Just because she was selected by the gods to be the voice for their system? I was chosen to save humanity!

“Ellie?” Sofie asked as Ellie bent my arm further and further backwards until I couldn’t take it anymore and screamed once more. Only then did she let go of me and stood up quietly.

“Don’t you dare heal him, Sofie.” Ellie hissed at Sofie as if I needed her help at all. While I stood up slowly and groaned a little, Sofie backed away from me slowly. “We’ll check that ruins out.”

“No we don’t? Don’t you see she has corpses in her cellar?”

“We do currently share the same cellar though.”

“Look? She’s just doing this to sound cute and funny.”

“Do not use yourself as a basis to judge others.”

“Not all nobles are the same, Gregory. Lucy is kind, cares about every single person on this world and …”

“She’s fooling you. I’m sure all she wants is to steal the throne.”

“Oh Gregory you said it yourself, didn’t you? The nobles wouldn’t accept a female ruler.”

“But … that’s not fair! We have to … we have to band together.”

“As woman? Ellie, getting equal rights is impossible as long as the most powerful woman and the broad majority is content with the situation. The female high nobility lives a lavish lifestyle. They just have to obey their husbands, raise their children and don’t have to lift a finger. The lower classes aren’t exactly different. The man is the money earner and the woman raises children. As long as this dependency exist, we’ll never be able to put up a united front. Until that fateful day when woman are able to live without a man, it’s each on our own.”

“Ellie, don’t trust her. She is exactly like the other nobles.” I snarled, seeing the saint’s contradictions between her words and actions right away.

“What do you mean?” Lucy asked and frowned slightly. Smiling happily, I presented her with the fact she couldn’t deny.

“You slept with the king.” I stated carefully, my intention being to have something against her. Luckily my sister did provide me that prove rather readily. She went in and out of father’s chambers as she pleased, so peeking on him and her spending time together wasn’t exactly hard to do, especially because the maids were already spreading that rumour.

“I did.” Lucy admitted, not even bothered to hide the fact which did stun me a little. I hadn’t expected that after all.

“You did what?” Sofie asked as surprised as me, for a vastly different reason though.

“I do not know why this is important.” Lucy said, attempting to change the topic so that nobody could find out the reason behind her actions. But I already knew. There was only one reason to sleep with the king.

“You were currying sexual favours.” I stated dryly, something which didn’t surprise her either.

“Gregory, some things are better left unsaid and this is one of them.” She said, her smile already vanished from her face.

“What did he give you?” I asked. It could only be something regarding the tasks of a queen. My father was a fool, but even he wouldn’t empower her further.

“He allowed me to do fulfil my tasks as the saint.” She said and nodded towards the others getting ready to march on.

“Lucy … why?” Sofie mumbled, clearly shaken from having her view of the prom and proper saint shattered.

“I told you … didn’t I? I would do everything to save humanity. And if that involves spreading my legs for my husband, I will do it. That is my god given role after all.” The saint claimed which repaired that image right away, even though this was the last thing that I wanted.

“But … I’m sure the king would have … he is.” Sofie mumbled, saddened from the fate her friend had to live through.

“I couldn’t find any other way … and it didn’t hurt anyone but me so … I saw no reason not to offer myself.” Lucy admitted and looked to the ground while trembling a little. She really didn’t look like a power hungry person, but I didn’t let myself be fooled by this. There had to be something I could use against her.

“Don’t give me that crap. Schwarz what …” Turning around, I looked at the other male in the group who just sat there in shock, clearly unresponsive for anything. Maybe I could use his emotions … but no, first I had to convince Ellie this saint wasn’t the best for humanity.

“Ellie, do you really want to leave it at that?”

“Shut up Gregory. They are married … society even expects them to sleep together. You just want to challenge her and I can assure you that I’m not going to take part in that.” Ellie stated, turned around and grabbed Schwarz’s shoulders to shake him awake from his trauma.

“Please don’t do that, Lucy. We are friends … let me share the burden you are carrying.” Sofie said, still shaken by the knowledge, but sadly not in a way I desired. For some stupid reason, that healer viewed the saint even more highly after all of my attempts to pry them apart.

“I have always tried to shield you all from politics as much as possible and I will continue to do so … can I have a chat with Gregory before we head out?” Lucy asked and gazed towards Schwarz worried.

“Sure thing …” Sofie said and helped to carry Schwarz away from the fire pit. Now then, I was sure she would threaten me right away, but she looked at me with a rather pitiful gaze.

“Gregory, I know of your desires. But can I ask you to let politics rest until the demon king has been dealt with?”

“You are asking enough of me already. Because of your ideas, I have to sleep in mud, cannot bathe and have to sleep near snoring men.”

“You do have my pity. But I fear your group will break apart if you do not restrain yourself. And we don’t want that to happen, do we? Everyone of us could die and you may not be able to see your beloved family again.” She said and turned around right away, leaving me with a wide open mouth and so many questions in my mind.

It was true that there was someone I loved in my family … my own sister who I loved since we were on the spaceship. She didn’t give me much attention back then, but here, she surely did. Well, she tried to seduce every man in power, including my own father which was why he let her do as she pleased. But unlike him, she saw me as a reliable ally and as her future caretaker. As such, the king never shared his bedroom with her … but I did.
