The dowager thumped her cane two times, attracting the attention from everyone. However, her eyes were on her little granddaughter, full with displeasure.

"Grand... grandmother?" Mika choked out questioningly. Unconsciously her hand reached for her fiance's hand, searching for strength to face the dragon. Oh no, what did she do wrong? She did not think she had made a mistake... yet. She just arrived at the restaurant with Ryn and the boys and already grandmother looked unhappy with her.

Seriously, grandma, couldn't you wait until at home if you wanted to scold me? My in-laws are here. Please take care of my face today... please...

"Your wedding is getting closer and I don't want you to get sick before that, " the eldest said with another thump of her cane.

The parents of the engaged couple hid their smiles. They too were worried when they saw how thin Mika has become. The women did hint about it but poor Mika thought they were encouraging her to fit into the wedding dress, forgetting that she was the one designing and sewing the dress so she could make any size she wanted.

Ryn looked at Mika interestingly. She did notice how thin her best friend has become but she did not know how to open the topic without hurting Mika's feelings. The future bride was quite sensitive regarding her weight and appearance. The never-ending diet that Mika kept venturing in also drove Ryn nuts because she sometimes felt guilty eating all the meats when Mika could only watch.

"I..." Mika was speechless. Why did she feel like she was being attacked by every corner? She did not do any wrong at all.

Why did it seem like she was being blamed for something she did not do? Why did it feel like her grandmother thought she would faint or get sick soon?

But she was healthy now. She felt healthy. In fact, with her wedding just around the corner, she was more excited than ever. Even though she would move out from her family and live with him, he told her that they would live just two of the first in a condominium he bought right before he proposed to her. Maybe once they have a child or two then they would move into the mansion so his parents could look after their child and they could continue living like a newlywed.

"Once the food is here, put a plate of meat each for Mika and Catherine. Also a plate of vegetable for her, " the dowager pointed at Ryn who gave her wide eyes when being pointed just like that out of nowhere. Wasn't Mika the target of the nag, not her?

Ryn was confused and puzzled by the sudden implication. Then, when the real meaning was digested in her brain, her eyes widened in horror.

Vegetable?

One whole plate of vegetable?

Her alone?

"And you two, " now the finger pointed at two other people; Jeremy and Jason.

Both men pointed their fingers at their faces. Now it was their turn to get the nag? They looked at the dowager silently, accepting their fate willingly.

It did feel like the dinner was for the four of them to receive nag from the eldest Long.

"You two are not allowed to help them to finish their plate, " the dowager ordered firmly.

"Yes, grandmother, " both Jeremy and Jason answered her calmly but they could not hide the smile on their face. It did feel like four of them being treated like little children instead of four young men and women.

It did feel weird being treated like this when everyone else treated them with respect. With the men's status as the heir of the family and their status in the company, everyone would be careful with them. Even some when they saw the men, they would turn and go another way just to avoid them.

Mika and Ryn looked at the men like they have been betrayed by them. How could these men do this to them? How could they just agree with the so eager so easily? They should stay firm and support the women.

The men avoided looking at them. Hey, they were scared of the dowager too.

"Being too thin is not good for your health, " the dowager thumped her cane a few time to emphasize how important this matter was.

The younger women shared a sulky look, even when their love held their hand underneath the table to coax them. They did not think they were risking their health. They always took care of their health. Mika never skipped her medical appointment while Ryn was always pulled to see the doctor when Mei Li thought Ryn looked pale.

Just as the dowager warmed up her nag, someone knocked on the door and politely announced that they were bringing the food. Two waiters came in with two trolleys full of food. No. It was not only two waiters and two trolleys but three waiters and three trolleys.

Ryn was speechless when she saw how much the food was. She wondered silently whether the table was big enough to fit all the food. Or would they need another table?

To her surprise, it was enough... Well, barely enough. She looked at the plate of vegetables in front of her. A plate of steamed broccoli and carrot. Her left eye twitched as she tried hard not to show her horror.

The dowager was serious when she said she wanted her to eat vegetables. And the men were... She was not liking what she was seeing right now. None of them dared to go against the dowager when they received the royal order. Jeremy did not try to offer his help to eat her enemy while Jason tried not to look at Mika's huge pleading eyes.

"Mika, stop playing with your food and start eating, " the dowager spoke when she noticed her little granddaughter did not put any food into her mouth but her hand was pushing the rice in the bowl with her chopsticks. Her huge glassy eyes kept stealing a pleading look at her fiance which was cleared to everyone in the room, even Jason who was steeling his heart not to give in to his love. He could not go against the dowager or his mother would accuse him of not knowing how to respect elders. And he also needed to put himself in a good position in the Long family's eyes.

Mika, my love, I'm sorry. I have to do this to pave a bright future in our life.

Ryn tried, as the others were focussing on Mika and Jason, to push the vegetables from her bowl into the piles of tissues she placed on her laps. She pretended to eat them but cleverly slipped the bugger to the tissue without staining her clothes or making any sound.

Jeremy noticed what she was doing but did not make any comment about it. He did not want to bring their attention to her and put her in the focus... And being blamed. He knew if his grandmother learned about this, she would start another nag at them... All four of them.

He quietly ate his food. His movement was slow and steady as he did not join the conversation at all. True to their thought, the dinner was for both families to discuss the progress of the wedding preparation.

Mika and Jason, the two most important people at the wedding did not speak at all. They knew their wedding was on a good hand and it was better not to interrupt the discussion. They would not be able to contribute anything anyway. Everything was planned by the two parents.

Mika was focussing on trying to finish the so many pieces of oxtail while Jason was giving her an encouraging look and rub on her back. She could do this, she told herself many times as she took one piece at a time. Silently, she wondered why, of all the dishes on the table, she had to finish this oxtail soup all by herself. Was this a punishment?

She felt like crying but there were no tears she could shed. She wanted to quit but she knew she could not do it in front of the dowager and also not in front of her in-laws. She did not want them to think of her as being a spoiled brat. She was not spoiled at all. She was a good, kind, and polite woman, the best woman to be with Jason.

Now her mouth and stomach felt so oily and stuffed. She swore she saw and felt her stomach bulged already. And her cheeks already puffed like a pudgy squirrel.

Ryn let out a relieved sigh when she managed to 'eat' almost all of the vegetables on the plate. Instead of eating... Well, instead of eating her favorite dish which Jeremy thoughtfully put in front of her, she attacked the vegetables first.

After all, the order was to 'clean' the whole plate of the bunny food, and she, obeying the order, was cleaning the plate rather seriously.
