Lucifer looked up at Juin, and after a while, he said, "I did, so? And I told you this before…"

Juin looked down at Lucifer as he thought about it. After a while, he said, "You did… I forgot. But why didn't you ever show me the book?"

He wasn't lying when he told Patrick and John that he had not seen the book or the sword ever since that day at the museum. He really hadn't seen it since Lucifer had never brought it out in front of him.

Raising a brow, Lucifer floated up into midair so that he was on eye level with Juin. "Do I have to?"

Both of them stared at each other for a while before Juin broke the silence and mumbled, "You don't have to, but as partners, it would be a nice thing to do."

Lucifer scoffed, "Are we partners?"

He floated toward Juin, stopping just right in front of him. With only inches parting them, he said with a slight smirk as his red eyes glowed slightly, "You are my vessel, here to serve me. Get this into your head--we are not partners! I'm a demon king! How can a weakling like you be my partner!"

If Lucifer was honest with himself, he would realize that he did not know how to treat Juin at the moment. Knowing that Juin was his twin brother, the one who was destined to destroy his beloved home, Lucifer did not know if he should still treat Juin the same as before.

Prior to that, Lucifer felt that Juin and he were almost friends… Maybe not a friend that Lucifer would proudly present to his other friends yet because of Juin's incompetence in most things, but… almost there. Then, he found out the truth.

Worst, he could not tell Juin about it. When he was talking with Warlock alone, not only did Warlock warn him against mentioning anything to Juin, he also said that to avoid a self-fulfilling prophecy, they had to make sure that Juin would not find out about it prematurely.

So, Lucifer was trying his best to treat him like before, in a mixture of a king-and-servant kind of relationship and master-and-student relationship. But when Juin mentioned the word "partners", it triggered something in Lucifer.

Partners meant being equal, and Lucifer did not want to be equal with him.

Most of all, he did not want to be reminded by the fact that he was the one saved from the prophecy. Warlock was right. It could very well be him. And knowing that just pissed Lucifer even more.

Seeing Juin's shocked expression at his outburst, Lucifer turned around and said authoritatively, "Let's go."

Juin watched Lucifer's back with an angry expression. He clenched his teeth and his fingers curled into fists as he slowly walked behind Lucifer. "I'll defeat you one day…" Juin thought to himself as he walked down the stairs with determined gaze.

And it made him think.

"Could I actually surpass him one day?"

When Juin finally got back to his class, he saw Max waiting by his desk.

"Hey, had a good lunch?" Juin asked with a smile as he stopped at his desk. He picked up his bottle of water from his desk and took a sip.

Max nodded. "Hey, someone mentioned that they saw you and that Nakamura girl talking earlier… Is there something between you guys?" Max asked curiously as she looked at him closely.

"Pfft…" Juin nearly choked on his water when he heard her question, and he had to place the bottle back down. He immediately shook his head. "No, there's nothing between us! She just wants to talk to me about something."

"Oh," Max said, seemingly a little happier to hear that. She then smiled brightly and asked, "By the way, Thomas is throwing a party this Friday night. Do you want to join?"

Juin smiled wryly. "I don't think your boyfriend will approve of this invite."

"If he wants me there, he has to approve it," Max said with a smirk. "And you're my best friend, so there's no reason why I can't invite you."

"Nah," Juin said while waving a hand nonchalantly. He was glad that Max always tried to involve him in social settings, but he just had no interest of getting into any social settings with Thomas. "I have something important to do on Friday night."

Max frowned. "What?"

"I'm going to do some research on something," Juin said as he sat down.

"Research? On what?"

Juin shrugged. "Nothing related to school. It's just something that I'm interested in lately."

"Anyway…" He then tried to change the conversation by asking, "Why is Thomas throwing a party? Is there any celebration?"

Max sighed. "His parents are going out of town for the weekend, so… You know."

Thomas was always looking for a chance to throw a party, and every chance he had, he would throw one, with some parental supervision, which he hated. This would be the first time both his parents were away at the same time, so this might be one of the best parties this year.

Juin thought for a while before saying in a worried tone, "You… be careful, alright? Don't drink from unsupervised cups!"

He had heard of many stories of things happening at unsupervised parties, not that he was invited to many. Mostly, Max was the one who told him about the stories. And he hoped that she would never become a part of these bad statistics.

Max was about to say something, to convince Juin to come, when a teacher came into their classroom. "Eh, where's Mad Dog?" Max mumbled as she looked at the teacher.

Juin also turned his head to look at the female teacher who had just walked in, and he recognized her as Ms. Janine, the homeroom teacher for the class next door. "No idea," he mumbled as he gestured for Max to go back to her own seat.

When the female teacher cleared her throat loudly, everyone quickly sat down at their respective seat. Once the class had quieted down, she said with a serious expression, "Mr. Warlock has an emergency matter to attend to, so I will be taking over his classes for the rest of the week."
